Does Anyone Do This Anymore?

Monday, February 10, 2020

When I mention ironing someone will remark "Who irons anymore"? Am I the only one who does this?

I will admit that I now really consider the ironing before buying clothes and shy from those that require much ironing!

I do have jeans that require little ironing and love wearing them anytime . How about you Spark friends?

We see more and more of this casual look and I think it needs no ironing. Is this the look you want to lose weight to wear?

Another favorite would be something like this to wear and it comes out of the dryer ready to go!

Do you or don't you iron?

I do iron and I love to iron - except in the middle of summer - but that smell - ahhhhhh. I remember begging my mother to let me start ironing when I was about 8 years old. She let me iron daddy's handkerchiefs. Oh how I loved that chore. Sigh.

There is another ironing story, though, that's not so happy - but it's long.

    Love me an iron.

Every week, usually on a Tuesday, I iron all of the clothes that need ironing. They are daughter's work clothes, shirts she uses after "bocha--which is bath", hubby's t-shirts (except the white ones), his shorts, sweat shirts, and pants, and my shirts I use during the week. It's not all of the clothes but most of them. I don't iron sheets or pillowcases. My grandmother used to iron all of hubby and my clothes, and I got into the habit of doing that.

Now that I don't "work," the ironing is down to a minimal amount.

I don't even know where my iron is. if I have to iron it, it won't get worn.

I do iron somethings but not a lot. - funny enough my Mum in Law used to iron everything even pillowcases and sheets and now she lives here she has to put up with my doing very little. In fact 18 months ago when my Sis in Law stayed here when we were going away she spent ages looking for an ironing board - we don't have - ha ha ha! emoticon

I have ironed my son's shirt for school and by end of day it is then thrown on the floor so why do I bother!
Hope you have a great day! emoticon

I still remember our daughter, who's 37 now, coming home from Kindergarten and doing a dramatic gasp as she walked into the living room upon seeing an ironing board set up and exclaiming loudly "WHAT IS THAT????????????" emoticon

Needless to say I had stopped ironing long before the 1980's although I do fondly remember ironing day and the smell of steam on linens. I think my favorite part was sprinkling the garments with fingers dipped in water and rolling them to stay moist in preparation for my grandmother and mother 's ironing.

Yes, I am an ironer. Perhaps it’s an age thing? I don’t like wrinkled clothes.
It’s true that if you stand there in front of the dryer and hang things up as they finish they are less wrinkled, some not wrinkled at all. I like a neat and pressed look to some things though. Creases.

Some things I just cannot wear wrinkled, so I iron “as needed.” I do not have an “ironing day” as my mom used to. I’ve learned to grab clothes from the dryer before they’re totally dry, and hang them. Their weight “irons” the wrinkles out.

I do not iron unless it’s for a wedding or something. Even then my spray water works. I just spray things with just water until they are slightly damp, smooth out and hang and viola. Next morning it is wrinkle free. A friend taught me this 😁

I do iron some things - my linens and handkerchiefs (both mine and Dearly Beloved's). A few shirts/dresses that are linen/hemp/rayon. Some days I love to iron and some days it is the worst!!
