Social Distancing

Sunday, March 15, 2020

I understand the whole concept of social distancing. Actually with texting and social media some have already been distancing themselves for years.

My Dad is in a nursing home and dementia is slowly taking over his brain. The facility is closed to visitors for at least two weeks, probably longer. I am concerned how no social interaction will effect my Dad. He basically stays in his room and does not participate in activities. He eats his meals alone in his room. One of us (my 2 brothers or myself) would stop in daily, usually at a meal time, to make sure he eats and to keep him in conversation. I started writing daily to him. Hopefully he will enjoy getting mail and each day it will remind him why we are not there but still think of him and love him.

With schools closings, concerts, fund raisers, sporting events, etc. cancelled or postponed I certainly hope the virus loses momentum. I was not one to run out and stock up on supplies and food. But to me it is a bit unsettling to see pictures of empty shelves. Hopefully once all these people stocked their pantry and closets they will now stay home.

Be safe and stay healthy.

That is so lovely that you are writing to your dad every day.

One supermarket here is opening at 7 am till 8 am for seniors and
disabled people to do their shopping before the hoarders come in.
I will be going tomorrow morning at 7 as it is my normal day to shop.

The stupidity of people really surfaces at times like this. Stay safe.
