Grocery shopping and the new normal

I took a trip to my grocery store last night, and the shelves were mostly picked-over and bare. I was hoping to pick up some peanut butter and almond milk, but no such luck. Instead, I came away with a few thoughts about my habits that can hopefully improve (1) my food wastefulness and (2) my diet choices.



This morning, I mixed my protein shake with water, instead of almond milk. You know what? It was pretty good. And it made me think about how wasteful and high-maintenance my grocery shopping habits have been. I drink Diet Coke like it's going out of style.

What nutrition choices am I making that may be wasteful? How can I make efficient, healthy meals with fewer ingredients and more nutrition? I'd like to really simplify some of my shopping and eating. It seems like the prudent thing to do, during a time like this.

    I have laid in some freezer foods, which I normally don't eat, in case we are confined to our homes. I am not big on eating canned goods or frozen foods - I prefer fresh, but if we are unable to go to the stores, I wanted to have some frozen veggies, meats, etc. For now, sticking with fresh while I can get it! Stay healthy everyone!

    Old fashioned choices are my normal ones ~ dried beans, 20 lb bags of rice, vegetables of all colors canned (in case freezer goes haywire) ~ those are a few. emoticon
