Birthday, staying home

Monday, March 23, 2020

Yesterday I celebrated my birthday. It was very low-key, because of coronavirus. Normally I go out to eat with friends, and usually also have a small birthday party. Yesterday, I enjoyed phone calls and video calls from all my family and friends. And I enjoyed opening birthday cards. And I enjoyed a slice of cake and a glass of wine with my dinner. (I had saved up my WW points to allow for these treats)

I am on my 10th day of staying home except for essential errands. That was following the guidelines from our governor. They will be issuing stricter orders today, because too many people ignored the guidelines. All state parks are closed as of today. Most beaches closed in order to prevent spring break parties as occurred in Florida.

I am staying fairly busy and I am fairly content. But I need to increase my activity level. My usual activities usually include hiking, going to the gym, and exercise classes. The last two are closed. And hiking opportunities are very limited due to restrictions or crowding ( and in my case, attempts to avoid tree pollen).

So today I am making a commitment to amp up my exercise. I am committed to doing aerobic exercise for a minimum of a half hour at least five times a week. I am committed to doing strength training at least three times a week. And I am committed to doing yoga or other stretching at least four times a week.

Here are a couple of photos from home.

Yesterday, I saw butterflies and lizards in my yard. The forsythia has started to bloom.

We have had some lovely sunsets.

The river is high enough that from my front porch I can see it in the canyon below.

The deer have been visiting.

I hope all of you are staying well, and you are keeping as busy as possible during these more restricted times. Stay strong, and keep sparking

    Happy Belated Birthday!!!
(My own was superceded by my mother’s injury in February, then BOOM! shutdowns of restaurants in March)
Hopefully we will be getting back to some sort of normalcy by the time my Z & P have their BD’s in June...

Happy Belated Birthday to you...sounds like you had as nice a celebration as these Covid 19 times permit.
Hopefully, it won’t be too long before we can all safely resume our normal routines; but, it seems that you have a great interim plan. Stay safe.... emoticon

I've been doing exercise most days. I'm up to 8 pounds now on my weights. Pretty good since a year ago, with my surgery, 1# was hard to lift. I still like my chair dancing. Paul Eugene on YouTube has some great routines. Good for us arthritic folks. Thanks for stopping by my blog.

emoticon Alison. My Birthday was March 17th and it was also very quietly celebrated. I had lots of phone calls, and cards, and still had Nola and Elizabeth with us, so it was fun.

I think that our governors are wise to take the precautions that they are. I don't mind staying home at all if it leads to safety for all of us in the long run. At my age, this is a virus I do NOT wish to have to fight.

Take care and I will continue to check in on you to see how you are doing.

Really sorry that I didn’t know it was your birthday, Alison. It’s difficult, isn’t it, not to be able to enjoy our usual activities. So far I haven‘t been tempted by emotional eating. Peter and I are workingon some projects together, and we have lots of books and dvd’s to keep us busy.

We had snow today, but I know that it will soon be warm enough to work in the yard. I plan to divide some perennials, as I don’t expect the garden centres to be opening at their regular time.

Take care, and please keep in touch.

This is day 10 for me staying at home in Georgia. I have only ventured out four times....twice to retrieve mail from our post office box and twice to the Kroger parking lot where an employee loads the groceries which I bought online into the car. I actually found myself tearing up today with tears of gratitude for some basic groceries like eggs, milk, yogurt and fresh produce. For the most part, I am cooking out of my freezer and pantry stash, so I really appreciated these fresh items. I too need to up the intensity of my exercise. Normally I would be doing vigorous water aerobics for 120 minutes three times weekly. During the virus I have been merely walking around the block and walking inside the house. I know there are some great videos online; I need to schedule them as you have.

Wonderful pictures!!! Have you joined Silver Sneakers? They have exercise videos you can do at home with little equipment. Today they had a live class on Facebook but I overslept and didn't attend. BAD GIRL!!!
