Eat the same foods every day?

Thursday, March 26, 2020

I've been thinking lately about rhythm and patterns and routine ... something I haven't had much of in the past. I am a nurse, and I used to work 12-hour shifts; every week looked different for me. I had a rotating schedule and worked weekends, holidays, you name it.

But I recently took a new position that is Mon-Fri, 9a to 5p and I now have the option of creating a consistent routine for myself. I get to create a life I love and I'd like to start designing my life and habits for healthier eating patterns.

One of my HUGE downfalls is cereal in the morning. Cereal isn't so bad in itself, but I find it leaves me feeling bloated (maybe it's the wheat?) and I simply do better if I eat lightly up until lunch. If I can muster the self-discipline, that is! Breakfast is such an important decision - because it sets the tone for the rest of the day.

I've started packing a lunch salad - so I can be consistent with a healthy lunch.

My questions to you: Do you have a "routine" that you've established with regards to breakfast and lunch? Do you tend to eat the same foods every day?

I think there is a lot of benefit to consistency, routine, patterns and habits and I'm trying to analyze mine ... and really dial it in :-)

I am working on new routines to accommodate several things, but I also used to have a pattern for meals, though not the exact same foods. It served me well over a period of time in letting me lose the weight I had put on in middle age and keep it off. I have been influenced by looking at slim cultures, like the French. For example, they tend to have very similar breakfasts, very light, every day, even though they LOVE food, meaning they don't feel they have to have variety for every meal, every day. I can't relay any research because I did it all on the fly, but I was struck that most slim cultures have only one major meal per day. The others tend to be rather simple, and have similar patterns day to day. And a meal is NEVER a big plate of nachos!

I eat the same breakfast &lunch every day. Easier to plan, prep & shop. Less likely to splurge. Works well for me.

I find I do better with the same pattern of foods not necessarily the same foods. I have eggs and turkey bacon or sausage for breakfast. I have a salad with either tuna or chicken for lunch. I have a healthy snack between lunch and supper. Supper usually consists of meat, and a non starchy vegetable. A little variety helps me but the structure is what I need

I have added more veggies with breakfast. Its difficult with perishable natures, to keep this ongoing with the same veggies. Also sometimes foods work for me, but then I get tired of the same thing. Variety is the spice of life.

No, I don't eat the same foods every day because my body is an omnivore. I need variety, within the scope of healthful choices, to be at my best. I follow my Nutrition Tracker's meal plans. They even out all my nutrients and food groups so I can pair my foods with my workouts to enable me to reach my personal goals. emoticon
