"Stay The Blazes Home"

Monday, April 06, 2020

These were the direct words of advice from our provincial premier on Friday and since then the message has gone viral; songs written, memes created, shower curtains, mugs and T-shirts have been produced. It was a nice weekend here for April and unfortunately some didn't follow that suggestion but it appears that Nova Scotia is not alone on that count.

Across the Atlantic on the Shetland Islands off the NE corner of Scotland a very civic minded and innovative project has taken wing, please share this with all the people who sew in your lives. I so wish that during my nursing days I might have had access to scrubs like these.

It's a new week, not without sad and frightening news but also better weather and instances of people stepping up to share ideas, helping each other and showing resolve to forge ahead. A big thank you and shout out to those who are considered essential right now; one group that is often missed in these thanks is the many long haul truckers who continue to pick up and deliver the items we need. They have been forgotten in many instances and find themselves without rest stops, access to bathrooms and then the need to self isolate when they return to home base. One Quebec driver has been on the road for a month, back and forth between Montreal and Cleveland, Ohio. He has not seen his family and has to carry all his own food, water and a bucket for bathroom breaks. Thank you to him and his mates. emoticon emoticon

There are so many people doing essential jobs and I thank them as I can. got a grocery delivery yesterday and made sure I upped her tip from the measly 5% that is standard.

Wish everyone would obey the social distancing. here in FL I see too many getting too close.

    Stay safe!

Such encouragement, such good ideas. And yes: it's up to each of us.

It is significantly better when leadership handles this situation with poise, transparency, and sometimes just a tad bit of humor.

That trucker you mention is a hero, and I'm sure there are many more like him. I respect all the people who give so much of themselves to help others.

I was talking to a friend today who has relatives in Poland - she said you can be arrested for leaving your house without a valid reason. And going for a walk is not a valid reason. Cute scrubs!
    Stay safe. emoticon

Thank you for the shout out to the long haul truckers. I count many cousins among them and used to accompany one of them on their short hauls decades ago. It was fun then. Not fun now!

I watch the news from Nova Scotia because my son & his wife are there... he has been working at home since a week ago Thursday... and I am impressed with your Premier.

I’m not a Conservative, but am very impressed with the job Rob Ford is doing in Ontario too. Our information, and our leaders, are so much better than those in the U.S. right now.

I was really concerned to read that a Spark Friend and her husband, who were airlifted out of Peru with a group of tourists, landed in Washington D.C. and were allowed to go to a hotel, and now plan to go on a train to another location where they will self-isolate for 14 days. Sounds to me like locking the barn door after the animals have all come outside.

No we are not alone when it comes to people not obeying the social distancing order but I can't understand why we are only hearing about people in Halifax being charged. This foolishness is going on all over the province.
