My Evolving Keeper Upper Story
Saturday, May 02, 2020
After yesterday, I’ve decided my theme for May is “making room.” What this means is honoring my commitments to myself, not deferring the to-dos and not phoning it in. Procrastinating and deferring doesn’t make space. It fills it with unnecessary anxiety, worry, and thought over the thing that still needs doing. This month, I’m going to make room by not putting off what can be done right now.
Yesterday, I didn’t do my weight training before work. Mid morning, I found myself toying around with where to pencil in the workout. I have a two hour block mid day that would work or any time after work. I scheduled it for the first free hour, then moved it to the second hour. For a fleeting moment, I considered putting it off until after work. That was a hard no because I knew I’d want to be in the pool. Before the first free hour was up, I decided to pull the workout ahead. Clearing the decks as early as possible protects my energy. I was so pleased to check that off the list.
That’s a long way around saying I’m working on not procrastinating! A friend recently shared her intention to be a good keeper upper, which is similar. It’s easier to keep up than catch up. See something, do something. Don’t procrastinate. Reset the room before you leave it. Don’t defer the little actions until they pile up and overwhelm you. There’s a Fly Lady quote in there somewhere too, I’m sure!
Anyway, that’s where my thoughts are today. What systems and routines do you have in place to make sure you honor your commitments?
