Both anxious and grateful

Saturday, May 02, 2020

Thank you so much for the warm support on my last blog.

I asked for help with dealing with online teaching and I got a lot, and I found people who are as non tech as me and upset, and tech-savvy people who are anxious about changing their teaching too. I’m telling myself I need to stay strong like everyone else has to.

I’m actually super grateful that I can communicate face-to-face using a computer, especially now, because I can speak with my daughter who has had symptoms for three days which make it seem likely that she has the corona virus - a fever which is not very high and tiredness. She is 35, so in a low-risk age group.

You must be SO worried, at least you can see her if only through a screen.

Hope and pray all will be well.

This made me realize I missed your last blog, so I went back and read it and really, really felt for you, as I am so terrified of technology and can't imagine how overwhelming it would be if I were faced with the challenges you face right now. I, too, would want to quit! But you're so close to the goal of retirement that quitting's not an option, so it must be extra burdensome to suddenly have to learn all this new stuff. I'm so glad to hear that you've taken solace in the fact that others are feeling the same thing and that you'll all somehow get through this together. I do hope you continue to have help through the harder parts. I admire you so much for facing this challenge, and I think it will leave you with some good skills that you can apply in the future. And it will give you the confidence that comes from achieving something you thought you couldn't do.

I'm sorry to hear that Cathy may have the virus. If it's a mild case that doesn't cause suffering, though, it will be a good thing to get it over with. I hope she doesn't get worse and that she can get through it quickly. It must be comforting to be able to talk with her face-to-face and know that she is okay.

Take care, and stay well, my dear.
