Spring has sprung!

Tuesday, May 12, 2020

Finally!
Most days it is sunny and around 50...coolish but I’ll take it.
We have had some near freezing temps at night but no killing frosts so the gardens are happy....really need some nice warm days to crank things up, though.
We did go in the hot tub one chilly windy night With just a bit of drizzle, but then it turned into a snow squall while we were out there...brrrr!
What a comical sight it must have been to see two naked old people hurrying (carefully) across the snowy deck to the back door.

So we have ‘doubled our bubble’ and merged our family of two with my son’s family of five with scrupulous hygiene all around.
The kids were getting almost depressed with the nearly two months of stay at home orders...I’m sure our mental health was affected as well...plus, Pat and Jean need some relief from the 24/7 of working from home, teaching the kids, running a household, and living with cancer.
It has been wonderful.
Here they are having a self-directed science lesson..capturing, examining and categorizing salamanders.

And the girls painted and decorated shells here to give mommy.

We all intend to continue staying at home for the foreseeable future despite what anyone else does. I won’t even let my DD into the house as she is still working and I’m not sure that she or her bf follow all the rules. We do have outside visits a few times a week.
She brought me this huge black velvet pillow for Mother’s Day...she was SO excited to give it to me.

I am NOT happy about a few new physical issues I am having that are spoiling my fun...the worst being the feeling of that dreaded plantar fasciitis coming back...a year later!
Remember last year it took me a year to get rid of it with three rounds of PT, doing all those exercises day after day, wearing the boot to bed every night, and some expensive new shoes.
I am resuming all that but feel I should not be walking right now....I do not own a bike and the gyms and the pools are still closed so I am limited to my yoga mat and my kettlebell and a few weights I own. Trying so hard to do something besides stretching every day.
emoticon emoticon emoticon
So, basically, we are snug as two bugs in a rug...he plays outside and I play inside and we are getting along fabulously as we are reminded every day now how we like each other so much.
Looking down the barrel at 52 years together this summer....lol!

Ok...just spent ten minutes trying to fix those photos (which I have now added to my photos section) but just kept turning them one way and then the other!
Grrrrrr.....

Looks like a good healthy family working it all out together. We are also managing with driveway visits even though we live in an apartment building and the driveway is used for delivery etc. I Aldo have limited equipment for workouts... mostly walk

Great that you've included Pat's family!

I'm having the same problems with exercise. I usually ride the recumbent bike for miles, doctors orders or run and jump in the pool. I'm going to reduce the longevity of my real knee joint if I continue to walk for exercise and I'm disheartened but still walking as it's the only cardio exercise I get. Fortunately we've dips and valleys so the inclines boost my HR!

As for streaking in your backyard.......you go, girl!

Sounds like "you and yours" are doing well, Liz. In Ontario the Emergency Orders have been extended until at least June 1, with no more than 5 people gathering in one place at any time. I talked to my far-flung kids on Mother's Day. Dorothy (Amsterdam) doesn't think she will be able to come to Canada for Christmas. Even if flights started up again, as it is now she would have to isolate in a hotel for 14 days before she could see us, then isolate in Amsterdam again for 14 days when she went home. She has been working from home since mid-March, and the way it looks now, it will be September at the earliest before ING starts bringing people back to head office.

Jenn, in Calgary, works in the ESSO head offices for Canada. Normally there are 2250 people working out of the offices there... now there are 125. They have a tentative plan to bring people back slowly... 10%, then 25%, then 50%... Jenn has been told she would be in the 50% group, and that means the fall, or maybe even next winter.

Ian is a professor at Dalhousie University in Halifax. I heard today that a number of Canadian universities are planning for on-line learning in September, with only labs taking place at the universities. When I talked to Ian on the week-end, Dal hadn't decided what they are going to do. I have 2 grandsons in university in Calgary, both supposed to graduate next May... not sure what will happen there, or if there will be jobs available when they do graduate.

Strange times... but we are not unhappy, except for missing Aria. We're getting things done at home, enjoying watching movies and reading, and enjoying the extra time together.

    We will get through it.

Love seeing your grandchildren, and particularly enjoyed hearing about the salamander science project, and rock painting art. I agree, this social isolation has been hard!

Love your pictures and the double bubble is the ideal solution to your family situation . . . . lovely for the kids, lovely for their parents, lovely for you grandparents.

Isn't it wonderful that spending more time together with your DH just reminds you of all the great reasons you had for getting married in the first place?? Yay happy marriage!!

I am so happy y’all are able to “double your bubble” and be together as a family.
The pillow your daughter gave your for Mother’s Day is sooooo cute!!

I hope your PF stays away! Ugh! I remember you struggling with it so badly, because I had it also around the same time. Just so miserable.

Love the pics. You are your hubby are so adorable together.

I have planters fasciitis that will happily flare up. It’s the worst. I stretch my feet out on a tennis ball or foot roller before getting up to keep the pain at bay. Going barefoot is a huge no no. Hope you find some relief.

    Combining households for the win!!!
    Be well...

Oh I love your pictures. Your grandkids are so cute. Enjoy your day. It is warming up here in Michigan, and the sun is shining. I am going out to enjoy as soon as my food settles from lunch.

Sounds like things are going well at your place! I would love to have a couple of my granddaughters here but my daughter and husband say no. The 12year old seems very depressed and I worry about her a lot. Her 7 year old sister has become very needy and is trying to FaceTime at least 5 or 6 times a day. She never has much to say. I worry about her, too. I need to move on to the next new normal so I can hug my kids/grandkids! Oh, and get a haircut!

HUGS and yes, isolation is surely taking a toll on MANY, and is doubly hard on those working parents who have to home-school right now, too. *SIGH** Glad you were able to get together w/your DS and DD and grands. It is uplifting.

Ummm . . . LOL @ your description of being in the hot tub when the snow started! BWAHAHAHA!
