Cooking for One

Saturday, May 23, 2020

Like many people, I live alone. And we know that most recipe books are geared towards 'serves 4' or more people - so we are forever trying to halve and quarter recipes (not always successfully!)

I have two books which have recipes for 1 serving - and I really appreciate them. It's quite an eye-opener to see how little you need of each thing for one portion.

These are my two books

and here are a couple of recipes I've made and liked

Today I went out and met my best friend for the first time in 9 weeks - I found us a place where we could sit on adjacent benches safely. She drove there from her house, and I walked there. The walk was nice too. Tomorrow I'm going to meet another friend and take her to the same place to show her where it is.

Here are some photos from my walk and my meet-up

This is a kind of verge which is usually mown - the buttercups have grown tall (maybe they're king cups - not sure - but a sea of yellow)

This is the field path - potatoes in there right now. The stone on the left is a Celtic Cross but has been half worn-away

These are two granite benches in the memorial garden at Madron - perfect for social distancing. I tried to take a 'selfie' of us!

It did me so much good to be out in the sunshine, and to meet my friend again in real life
