Walks and nature
Sunday, May 24, 2020
I've started taking slower, longer walks. That helps my knees a bit and I still get cardio on the elevation changes. Win/win.
I don't walk masked as we live in quite an agreeable neighborhood where it's easy to self distance. However as I was in my last 1/4 mile I heard the thud, thud of runners feet behind me. I managed to veer off into a driveway when I was passed on the sidewalk by a 12-14 year old pony-tailed runner who waved and yelled out "Hi!" as she sped by.
A she rounded the corner ahead of me my only thought was "Yep, now I'll get it!" Cute kid, though.
I've continued to eat too much but have kept the scale steady.
My bird visitors seem to have gone again. There isn't a single juniper berry left on my neighbors trees. The birds were like a pretty plague of locusts.
Speaking of locusts, I read the mid-south USA is to get hit with the big eruption of 17 year locusts-cicadas this summer. Great.
We get them next year.
The last mega-hatching for us was 14-16 years ago and they were just creepy and cool. The one in 1979 was most memorable as we went out with friends, drinking if course, and had to walk the living carpet of cicadas on the roadway! I can still hear the crunching!
I love nature.
