A Visitor and a Goal
Sunday, May 31, 2020
We had a visitor yesterday. Actually, a few. A big toad near the wellhead, a bunny in the woods and the snapping turtle. He was at the edge of the driveway when the picture was taken. We went shopping and walking and, on the way home, traffic was backed up close to our house. The turtle was in the middle of the road. Someone in a truck had run over him, but, fortunately, his/her shell was still intact. My partner coaxed the turtle off the road and into a ditch. We called a few rescue places. One called back and she said that, since his shell is intact, he/she is OK, but she will come get him if we find out there's an injury.
I cannot attend my sister's wedding which is going to happen on June 6. I decided that I am going to aim to attend her eldest son's high school graduation next spring. That gives me a goal to shoot for in terms of weight loss and getting in better shape.
To that end, I started walking, just a little. I walked yesterday and this morning. This morning, I walked about twice as far as I did yesterday. It's not a competition, but for the first time, I am walking more than my partner. He is very overweight - hard to see - and it breaks my heart. He used to hike in Yosemite and other places in the mountains. We walked together, though, when he sat on a bench, I kept walking. He walked farther than he did yesterday, too, and we encouraged each other.
A LONG way to go, but the journey is underway.
