Yesterday we finally got to go back to see NIck and Monika. WE wore masks, stayed distant, and had a great afternoon. We had a weenie roast over the bonfire, drank German beer that they brought back from Munich last winter, held the hens and new chicks, and relaxed.
I finally got in the boat with Nick a nd saw all of the hard work they have been doing over the course of winter/spring. He has one gas tank built, all of the new electrical and gauges done, new winches, anchor assembly, and mast. They got the new boom finished, framed out the bathroom, galley and storage areas, got all of his welding finished, and installed the prisms for the living areas. He re-built the door entry to open up instead of the original sliding hatch, to facilitate his navigational system, sextant, celestial chart and compass areas.
It may be 2021 when they leave, so they are hurrying, but the flooding, a fallen tree, and waiting for parts to be delivered, hinder things immensely. Their departure time has to be in November no matter what year they leave, so there is a small window.
The floods brought a pair of nesting swans to the marsh that they own across the road, lots of turtles, various wildlife, so everybody is trying to find their place in this new way of life on the river...
