And baby Henry, 3 weeks old: the very first time we met him!!
What a pleasure he's been! We have so much enjoyed watching him grow and develop into the magnificent dog he has become: inside and out. Henry Heart of Gold.
Yesterday I took him for his heartworm test (negative, thankfully). He was also weighed in to determine the appropriate amount of protective medication going forward: and he's lost .9 kg. since May 20. Almost 2 pounds.
So: we've been diligent in cutting back on the snacks and in getting him out for walks, as well as encouraging lots of running around in the big back yard.
The vet who saw him yesterday was congratulatory!! She remembered that Charlie had also been chubby at a year old, and we slimmed him down -- and she even remember that I once used to weigh about 90 pounds more than I do now!
She has a golden retriever too . . . with a bit of a pulling tendency. And she recommended an Easy Walk harness (instead of the prong collar that the puppy obedience people had advised). So: I bought one for Henry with curbside pickup and we got it this morning . . . yes, he absolutely understands and was walking along very nicely. Instead of the leash attached at the neck, it's attached at a ring on his chest . . . so if he pulls, he's turning himself around and back towards me. MUCH better.
The harness is bright red and will coordinate with Henry's birthday collar and leash which haven't arrived yet -- bright red rolled leather. His new silicon slip on ID tags have been delivered.
Henry did have a birthday treat of a WHOLE orange (his absolutely favourite thing) all for himself. Section by section. He absolutely could NOT believe it and was so exuberantly grateful!!!
I believe that DH is about to grill himself a hot dog for lunch -- to enjoy with a freshly made bowlful of HIS favourite gazpacho.
Pretty sure Henry is going to try for at least a smidge of that hot dog too . . . I mean, why would they call them HOT DOGS if he's not eligible???
Happy Birthday dear Henry. Happy Birthday to you!!
