Can God Furnish A Table?

Friday, June 26, 2020

The Israelites were wandering in the wilderness.  Why?  Because of their unbelief and disobedience to God.  And yet, even in this God was taking care of them.  He spread a table before them and provided their food.  They complained, but God sent manna.  Every day it was there to gather and to make the sustenance they needed for the day.

Yet, they still complained.  They got tired of manna.  They wanted some meat.  They griped to Moses and said we want meat.  Yet there was no possible way to get it in the wilderness.  They said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?  What do you mean?  Of course He can.  He has already been doing it for you.  Because of their murmuring, they only stirred God's anger.  You want meat, said God.  You've got it!   And Quail came out of nowhere.  There was so much of it and they gathered it and ate meat for a month until they were so sick of it!  Yes, God can provide us a table anywhere!

In Psalm 23, we're told the He prepared us a table in the presence of our enemies and our cup runs over!  Wow!  What a mighty and gentle Shepherd!

In Proverbs, we are told to take His Word and write it on the table of our hearts.   Perhaps if we did more of this, we would get to know God better and realize that He knows what He is doing.  It might stop our complaining and murmuring against Him, our disobedience and disbelief.  We may begin to realize that His ways are higher than ours and we can trust Him for every single thing.  It may cause us to follow Him the right way the first time so we don't have to "wander in the wilderness".  It may keep us from doubting that He is God and that He can furnish us a table anywhere with all the provisions we need.

So instead of doubting that God can furnish a table, praise Him that He does prepare us a table in the midst of our enemies and then keep writing His Word on the table of your heart.
