Silly Little Pleasures!!

This isn't going to be a kayaking opportunity soon . . . DH is tap dancing to beat the band, meeting urgent++ deadlines: and I've been there myself and I know just what it feels like. (And: I'm helping all I can, both with the professional stuff AND the domestic stuff, to reduce the pressure on him . . . )

But in the meantime . . . how appreciative I am of my local library branch scooping up multiple long-standing requests on my "hold" list and emailing me that they've got 'em!! Over the past week I've made FOUR trips so I'm well stocked with reading materials again . . . including new-to-me Alexander McCall Smiths which I'm especially enjoying! Yesterday about 2 pm I was absolutely the only patron at the library . . . masked, sanitized, and met at the desk with social distancing in place. I told them how grateful I am for the service: and the young assistant said she's also very happy to be out of her basement, where she's been working!!

And: another silly thing: I quite desperately needed to make some lingerie purchases. Yeah. Hooks on bras all twisted irredeemably (yes, I had tried to twist 'em back, not possible) and saggy-butt panties too . . . SO depressing. I don't like to order on line because the feel of the fabric is very important to me . . .

But although I couldn't use the fitting room at the grocery store yesterday morning (of course) I found some very pretty microfibre bralettes and matching undies that looked like they'd do the job . . . risked it (not a big investment), brought 'em home, tried 'em on, they are perfect!!! I cleared all the offending items out of my drawers and will order some more, on line, now I KNOW that they work. Not expensive, and really uplifting -- mood wise and otherwise also!!

I love those little things that lift me up - and goodness knows, good underwear is one of the important, but small, pleasures. Yay for your score.

And thank you for the compliments on my photo of DH and me at the wedding.

Those don't sound like silly little pleasures to me! You remind me that's time to clear out some of my saggy lingerie and t-shirts. Our library just re-opened too and time to stop by.

    have a great day!

emoticon Funny I did the same thing with bras. Mine where a disaster. I ordered one online and was quite pleased with the fit. I like you the feel of the fabric before I buy. I guess that won't be the norm anymore. I'm not liking shopping online but that's just me I guess. I am forced to if I want to get anything out of the norm.

It is the new way. I remember reading an article or was it a book about how there will come a time where we won't socialize, use the computer to shop, and how healthcare will be virtual. Now I read this years and years ago, which I though that this would never be the case. Well I thought wrong didn't I?

Yes, the bralettes are a little more comfy than the usual suspects! Glad they worked out. I would not think of ordering unmentionables on-line, either, but . . . different times require different approaches. They have to be comfy!

Good luck to DH and glad you're able to help him.

Properly fitting undergarments are MORE than just LITTLE pleasures. They are ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL! Glad you were able to find what you needed and get more ordered. It sure is amazing what details of everyday life this COVID thing is interrupting. I just have NO patience for the idiots in this country who think that masking and social distancing guidelines from the CDC are optional! I guess if the Toddler-in-Chief in the White House doesn't need to wear one in public they think they don't have to either. Apparently "Lead by example" wasn't anything he was taught. Sorry about the rant. Hope you have a wonderful week and that you can get out on the water soon. emoticon emoticon

Those little pleasures all add up, don't they?

And properly fitting underthings as well as good books are way more than little pleasures - they're essentials in my life!

Sooo grateful our libraries have reopened, with guidelines.
And...love this...ignore the due dates for now!
I tried ordering underwear on line...the exact brand, style and size of my favorite worn outs and...dang...just a bit too small!
    How could that even be?
Mostly nylon so it’s not a shrinkage or stretched out situation.

Our library started the contactless pick-up a couple of weeks ago, and like you, I'm thankful to see those holds coming again -- and like you, I and everybody I've encountered during library runs is letting the library staff know how much we appreciate this step closer to "normal." The lockdown was the catalyst to end my procrastination over buying a Kindle (because, confession, wuss that I can be, I was afraid I wouldn't be able to figure it out, although I have no idea where that doubt came from....), which has been wonderful because I was able to check out library books and place holds for e-books.

Congrats, too, on the new "unmentionables." I need some, too, as my "at home" bras are in the same shape that yours were. I used to roll my eyes when my mother gave me that "always wear clean underwear in case you get hit by a car" talk, but I had a lesson in that reality early this year when a good friend was out of town and asked if I would take her mother to the ER as she thought her mom might be having cardiac issues. In the midst of the 10 or so people swarming Mama Maria in the ER, a part of me noted that her pretty lingerie was a lot nicer and in much better shape than my serviceable stuff. (The visit did result in a 4-day hospitalization, but she is doing well now.)

I ordered those types of items on line using style numbers. I might not have had the color choices but at least I got what I was currently comfortable wearing!

Thanks, something I need to do again!

So a lot of us share that concern. Guess I have to run to the Bay today (did not even know they were open since May 26), in order to get new undies too, before the rush empties their racks! Costco used to carry my brand but from the online comments, it seems that they don’t carry it anymore.
    Good luck to your DH.

I'm able to do the drive through at the library. We get 3 weeks per book, so I typically run 3 at a time and am back at the library about once a week to drop off and pick up. Love the convenience of the drive through. I do not plan to go in, however. Many of the homeless population here hang out inside during the day. WE do have security inside, as there have been some issues. I also am in need of new undies, but not yet ready to purchase. Glad you found what works!!

How wonderful! Libraries have just opened up for drop off and pick up only here. Suggestions to use online books, but you can't borrow them as long as paper books. I have a huge stack purchased from charity sales so I am good for a long time. I can't help it -I always support the dog and SPCA charity sales, especially convenient as they are close to me.
How lucky you are to find lingerie purchases you are happy with. I wade through Wal*Mart looking for ones I have purchased before and of course they don't have them anymore so the angst of just picking something at random and hoping I can live with them.
Poor DH, glad you are able to help in some way. It will be so wonderful when he can finally retire too.
Enjoy your Sunday, stay safe from the hot weather you are getting. It has cooled down here high of only 22 C (72 F) today.
