44th year

Sunday, July 05, 2020

Yesterday was my birthday, so I'm officially 44 now. My kids came over (it's their week with their dad) and we took a little road trip. We went to Ikea - I love going there periodically and I needed a small stock pot. I was very happy that they require masks and had hand sanitizer stations throughout the store. There weren't many people there, so we were in and out in about an hour. I also picked up an office chair. I had been wanting one for awhile since mine was in rough shape. Next, we went to the Cheesecake Factory for lunch. Definitely a splurge - I got the chicken and waffle eggs benedict and lemon raspberry cheese cake to go. We finished the day going to a beach on lake Michigan for a little swim. It's horribly hot and humid so the cool lake breeze was awesome. I skipped the fireworks this year - I'm just not into it with COVID. All in all, it was a great day.

I've decided to get back on track with low carb. I went off the rails the past year having gone through a lot of stress with a job change and just feeling in a funk for most of the year. I just got a higher dose of my thyroid medicine and am starting to feel better. Now it's time to work on my eating habits, getting carby bingeing under control, and get this excess weight off. I've got a beef roast in the crock pot that I can shred for meals and bought some good veggies and low carb snacks, so I'm good to go.

My goal is to lose 30 pounds before my trip to Denver in late October. I want to feel comfortable on the plane and be energetic to be active.

Thanks for reading!

You're at a great age for this. What people do in middle age affects the brain in ways that might not even show up until they're in their 60's, and it can be too late. Not all the damage reverses just because we get "religion!" Though other things get better and make life a lot more pleasant. Not a low carber, but you're the one who has to be happy with the eating and the results-for-the-effort. cheers
