Down and Out temporarily

Wednesday, July 08, 2020

I am not well at the moment. I have been very sick the past week with a case of shingles. I had them years ago without the horrible panful side effects but this time and although the lesions are minimal, I have been in agony with jolting pain to my head as the nerve path that the shingles are on is along my neck and collar bone. The pain is horrible and I am trying to keep it at a minimum using CBD products. The CBD helps keeping the jolts of pain down to a minimum but it doesn't keep it away completely. Nerve pain is the worst and I implore all those people who have had chicken pox to get yourself a shingles shot. You can only get shingles if you have already had chicken pox.

AS a senior I am faced with this being something easily acquired and they say that 3 times is very rare but I will not take the chances of this ever happening again. Once I am over this I will get the shingles vaccine. I asked for the vaccine a couple years ago and my doctor had none in supply at the time. It got overlooked by me and my doctor so now we both need to be on our toes about getting a supply in the office especially for the seniors who are more susceptible.

Once I am over this, I will have a lot of work to get back to fitness on a regular basis but for now it is rest and healing.

Oh no! I've been gone from SparkPeople for a couple of weeks and did not know about your case of shingles. Susan, I am so sorry you have had to go through this (again)! It sounds horrible. I hope you are better by now, as this blog is a week old. I hate to think of you in such pain. Please take care, and I hope the vaccine is available next time you see your doctor.

emoticon so sorry to hear and you have given me food to think on. I actually hadn't really thought about it so will ask my doctor about it on my next visit.

Awww Susan get better. My heart goes out to you having shingles. I got the vaccine a while ago, but there is a new one out that my doctor says is even better for prevention. It's a booster type of thing. I haven't gotten it yet as it is quite expensive and my insurance doesn't cover it. I feel it should. I didn't get chickenpox until I was 21 years old and had a very bad case of it, so that why I got the vaccine, so I'm all for the vaccine.

Wishing that this goes away for you soon. emoticon

I got my shingles shot as soon as I turned 50 - my doctor has a minimum age for that shot. I hope that you recover quickly!

I totally feel your pain; had shingles the entire year in 2016. Rash was minimal, but nerve pain in three places drove me nearly insane. I had back of shoulder, and two places in left arm. Wishing you better days ahead.
