Day 70: Into Nutrition Again

Thursday, July 09, 2020

emoticon We had a LOT of fun grocery shopping yesterday and I am really back into nutrition again. I planned and tracked all my food and organized my pantry and everything and even made some apple bran muffins so I am really back on track with nutrition. I bought some vegetable kabobs, too, which look really good, so I am on track with veggies, too. Yesterday morning I made potato pancakes with applesauce and Fritzy and I deep fried potato skins (maybe not the healthiest method but it was a good way to get him to eat some fibre). So I'm feeling pretty good about health and nutrition right now. Yesterday was a really good day overall as Fritzy and I got a new television that we put in our room and so Fritzy is really happy and I subscribed to Nickelodeon for him and next month will be subscribing to Boomerang. I also got him Apple Arcade. He also got a slushie maker yesterday and I got some incense and essential oil spray yesterday and a little sparkly stuffed cat for my desk.

emoticon Nutrition: I'm still too high on calories (eating about 3K which is my usual amount) and of course high on sodium and sugars (high on sodium because I season everything with salt and high on sugars because I have 1 or 2 sodas a day) but getting plenty of fruits/veg and protein and whole grains. In general I eat really healthy it's just that the few treats I have are pretty lavish (soda with high sugar content, single serving pie with high calorie content, fast food with high salt/fat content). If I didn't have any treats, I'd be way under my calories and eating really healthy. But I do believe in moderation and having some treats. So I don't want to cut out treats completely. I just need to find a better balance. One thing I'm doing is cutting back on soda. I'm drinking more sparkling water and regular water and eating less fast food. We were getting fast food 3 times a week but now we are getting fast food only once or twice a week.

emoticon Fitness: I have been pretty ambitious as far as fitness goes, but it's just been pretty much normal for me now. I walked over 5,000 steps yesterday without putting any effort into it or really doing much of anything out of the ordinary. I also did a core workout. So today I'm going to try to be a bit more active (try for 6K?) and today is tai chi. The only problem with being super active and getting close to 10K is that when I do that, my feet and ankles swell up badly and I have problems with my left knee and ribs and end up putting on a serious amount of bloat weight. Then I'm in too much pain to do anything anymore and I have to rest for like a week and then the weight goes down and so does the swelling. So it's kind of a cycle I continually go through over and over again.

emoticon Water: I've been drinking quite a bit more water and not much soda. I bought Fritzy a case of Sprite but just sparkling water for myself and him to share. For my part I mostly drink water and coffee and 6 oz of orange juice in the morning. So I'm doing pretty well there except I forget to track the water.

emoticon Cigars: I'm still going to have the emoticon money jar, but I've also come up with another way to motivate myself to keep from buying cigars. I'm putting $50 in the bank every month, partly to pay for Fritzy's games and tv subscriptions, and partly to pay for Fitbit accessories (wristbands, chargers, etc) for myself and VR games, and other fun things that I may want to order online. So that's another way to treat myself.

emoticon Meditation: Had such a busy day yesterday, felt like I never sat down, so never found the time to meditate. Have such a nice shrine set up, though, plus my meditation cushion, so do want to start meditating soon.

emoticon Sleep: Been a little too hyper what with the excitement lately to sleep. I'll probably spend some time napping later today since I don't have any pressing plans today but tomorrow I'm going to try to get in to see my psychiatrist.

emoticon Motivation: My motivation right now is cooking and eating healthy meals. I'm doing so well with planning and tracking right now that I really want to stick to a good program. We have tons of healthy food here right now and I want to take full advantage of that. I feel really motivated and inspired right now and am in a good place so now is the time to start trying to tackle my calorie range.

emoticon Non-Scale Victory: My nonscale victory lately is just staying on track so well in all aspects. I'm really making a lot of progress in all areas right now and super motivated to keep on moving forward and that's a really good thing.

emoticon Writing: I have to put writing aside a bit right now. I'm so excited about everything when it comes to fitness and nutrition right now and am on such a roll with that that I don't have time for the writing and can't really afford to split my focus. So I need to choose which one I want to devote my time to right now and right now I want to focus on my health.

emoticon Healthy Coping: Right now I've been journaling and using my new essential oil spray to give the room the scent of rosemary and spearmint, which is very rejuvenating, and listening to ambient music, and it's helping me to cope with things in a much better way than spending my evenings eating.

So that's all for now. More later! emoticon
