Ups and Downs

I've been consistently logging my weight on the tracker for the past couple of months - and I can see that my fluctuation is regularly about 2-3lbs - it doesn't go higher, or lower. It's helpful for me to see that - it's normal for body weight to go up and down a bit - it doesn't usually stay exactly the same all the time.

I've also seen that my weight goes up after eating certain things - and it's quite shocking really. What I've come to think is that because I eat in a certain way every day - mostly vegan, mostly avoiding wheat and sugar, nothing fried etc - that my body gets used to that. And I only have to eat one thing different - pizza, or pastry, or a slice of cake - and my body reacts by going up a couple of pounds. I guess it's an inflammatory reaction. Anyone who's into that kind of thinking will probably agree with me there! So the body receives something that potentially causes damage - it responds by creating an inflammatory response - which involves retaining fluid for detoxification etc.

I guess I could perhaps counteract this by (a) not eating those things at all and finding alternatives that don't cause this reaction and (b) increasing my water intake on those days.

Just thinking aloud really............. I know the theory that a pound of body fat requires about 3,000 calories, and I know that calories don't turn into fat overnight. I also know that when I see the scale go up 2lbs I haven't eaten 6,000 extra calories - so I know it's just fluid etc.......... But there is definitely a next day effect for me with those foods.

So, this morning the scale was up - yesterday I had these things outside of my normal plan: one slice of gluten-free orange and poppy seed cake; 6 Ryvita crispbreads; 4 oatcakes with sugar-free jam; a big handful of cashew nuts. Could it just have been that slice of cake? The cake had sugar in, and probably eggs which I don't usually eat..........

Oh, Gill, stop thinking! The sun is shining. My PCR test has been collected by the courier. I've had my tofu scramble and coffee for breakfast. I'm off out for an adventure!

    It's a normal fluctuation in most people. My weight can fluctuate by 5lbs daily. I take a fluid pill, Lasix, for my fluid retention. I can feel it building up.

    Same here - my weight fluctuates 2-3 lbs per day. I probably should track better to know what might be causing it, but I haven't tried. Lovely walk - wish there were places like that around here.

    My weight fluctuates daily, based as much on humidity as anything I may eat. We are organic organisms after all.
