Nooooooo!!!

Monday, July 13, 2020

I am trying not to cry.
Disappointed is not a strong enough word.
Devastated is closer.
Anguilla has extended their border closing until July 30.
Plus, St Martin (which we land in before the ferry to Anguilla) has prohibited all visitors from the US until further notice.
I am not even telling Patrick and Jean as they are having a nice family vacation in NH this week with her family.
I could not sleep last night because I am just SO SAD!
Need hugs!

Oh Elizabeth, I was reading your blogs in the order in which you wrote them, so I come to this latest and feel so sorry that your trip, which you had planned a long time ago and had been looking forward to so happily, will have to be postponed or canceled. What a blow! I am so sorry at this disappointing turn of events. I hope you can manage the fallout and somehow make Patrick's birthday a happy and memorable occasion nonetheless. And I hope this miserable time in our history is over soon. Peace be with you, my friend.

so sorry . I know it is not the same but could you do a staycation in your area maybe go to a beach or lake wine tasting or something just remember lots of people are in your shoes, also think about all the lives you will be saving by staying home. give your self time to grieve then come up with a plan. my daughter was supposed to marry this october with 100 got married in her backyard with 35 in 90 degree heat no honeymoon they are taking the money and putting toward a lovely house and will go away when it is safe.

Sisters' trip cancelled in May -- had been on the calendar for 7 months.
Spouse's September river cruise through Northeastern States & Southeastern Canada just cancelled -- had been on calendar for 9 months. Love that trip insurance.

My take is 'better safe than sorry.'

    My current top concerns:

Brother, 74, diagnosed with a large mass of colon cancer last week -- surgery date bumped 3 times already due to COVID Chaos. He has had several units of blood transfusions.

Youngest sister, 60, cancer/chemo survivor with diabetes, an 'essential worker' in plant that produces hospital IV bags, has been VERY SICK for 12 days. Retested for COVID (has been confirmed at workplace) since false negatives run 30% on test given end of first week of being sick.

I'm so sorry, very disappointing news.
There are so many whose trips have been canceled.
I don't know of a single person not affected in more ways than just our new normal with this dang pandemic.
My dd had to postpone her wedding 'til next year. Our anniversary trip missed and summer vacation canceled.
My best friend's dh's mother passed with no Mass for her funeral; only 10 allowed to attend prayers and the cemetery. He and his family felt so cheated out of proper mourning.
We are all in this together...I hope it brings you a tiny bit of consolation that so many have realized similar fates. I know it's especially hurtful to you due to your son's ill health.
As another Sparker mentioned, is it at all possible to plan a more local trip?
Have you ever been to Lake George, NY? Not the ocean, I know, but a very fun place for kids of all ages...something to do for everyone. And driveable...as many other fabulous spots in the U.S.

Had a feeling this would be the case. We vacationed in St Martin fir a number of years... The airport in on the Dutch side, and we always found spots on the French side, but never took the ferry to Anguilla. Or went to St Barts. Nice beaches. Sad.

Hang on to hope we will all be traveling again soon.

So sorry Elizabeth! and yesterday it sounded like things were so positive. How disappointing. Hopefully you can plan a trip in the US that will still be fun for the family. Hugs to you, Rhonda

Dang! So sorry to hear about this.
Canada has said it won't open its border to the US until the pandemic there is under control. The health experts estimate the time it will take is one year.
I have a ticket booked to go to Winnipeg for my mom's 85th birthday. The Manitoba provincial border is closed. There are provinces in Canada that have no new cases of COVID, and are therefore trying to keep it that way. WestJet and Air Canada have decided to go back to stuffing the planes full of people. I am going to try and cancel my trip as it was booked before lockdown.
