If You Leave, Let Me Know?

Wednesday, July 22, 2020

Yesterday I was on Facebook wishing Happy Birthday to my friends.

A funny lady I met here on Spark years ago... had passed away. I don't know when. I knew she was in poor health several years ago and was in a nursing home. Someone had posted "Happy Heavenly Birthday." That is how I knew.

I never met her in person, but came to love her.

She was several years older than me and lived in New York, on Long Island. She was musical and had been to most all of Murray K's rock and roll shows in the 60's. So she had seen lots of the groups of the time. She was rather jealous of my concert list. I used to go to see every rock group that came around. Those were the days it was affordable.

Anyway, I miss Therese. She loved cats, like me. She taught me about everyone in New York having a Jewish Uncle and our main thing in common was classic rock. She also had a wicked sense of humor.

I will miss her.

Every so often, I check my list of friends on Spark and "weed" them out. I wonder sometimes what happened to them. Did they just leave or are they still wish us?

Let me know if you leave, please?

Hugs to you for that strange, unique sadness.

We live in such strange times, but such good ones where we can make bonds and friendships with those we never meet in person. The sadness at losing them is so real (and their disappearances so mysterious sometimes).

Because we aren't all in the same "village," mourning seems strange and disconnected - so much more during a pandemic!

I hope you have found good ways to grieve and heal and cherish your memories of her.

So sorry for your loss. It is no less because it was on social media. With your health struggles, I am sure that the internet is a wonderful boost to your mood when you can interact with so many interesting people.

And yes, I remember the online friends and what they taught me over the years. I think of them when I do something ( a recipe, or a craft or a frugal idea) they taught me.

We all should let family members know how to get to our Spark page to post when we are very sick or have died so that others may know.

So sorry to hear about your LI friend. Murray the K and his Swinging Soiree! I am from Long Island, too. I had no Jewish uncles, but a couple of my second generation Italian uncles came close, in content and delivery, anyway.

Been following your health issues. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Aww that's so sad. Definitely the downside of Facebook is hearing bad news indirectly. But I guess it's better than not at all? Take it easy, this has probably been quite a shock.
