Corona-virus blog - look away now if you're sick of hearing about it!

I just had to share this from our UK leader........... the restrictions are being eased more and more, but still expecting people to 'stay safe' by washing hands, wearing masks, maintaining social distance. Right.

This is extracted from local news report - from 1st August, PM Boris Johnson is announcing almost completed 'easement' for all businesses and activities. A totally emotive and irrational expectation that things will be 'normal by Christmas'! And in the next breath saying that he is 'preparing for the worst' during the winter season. I know that all health professionals in our county have been told they cannot book any leave from September.



"He went on to say: "It is my strong and sincere hope that we will be able to review the outstanding restrictions and allow a more significant return to normality from November, at the earliest, possibly in time for Christmas."

However, he stressed that mask-wearing and social distancing will continue to be the 'new normal'

This is despite his chief scientific adviser, Sir Patrick Vallance, earlier saying there is "absolutely no reason" to change the advice.

Mr Johnson also said his plan for preparing the NHS for a potential second spike in Covid-19 cases coinciding with the flu season this winter, as "hoping for the best, but planning for the worst".



Yesterday I had a face-fit test for a different mask at work. They're horrible things used by welders. This is because the masks we were using are being 're-directed' to the NHS - so we have to use something else. Of course, they're made in China. China could totally dry up our PPE supplies any time. You have to strap them on VERY tight to create a seal - and you can get hypoxic effects after several hours - mostly from trapped co2 - we find we get sleepy.

And has anyone noticed how they seem to have completely dropped any concern about the virus being able to transmit via the eyes?
