"Press any key to continue."
Since I'm sure you're looking at this site on a computer or handheld device, you've probably seen this phrase at least once at some point. These words popped into my head today after reading IndyGirl's featured blog "My Scrapbook of Goodies."
No matter where we are on any journey, we just have to take the next step toward improvement. It might seem like a small, insignificant step, but it's crucial to making any kind of progress.
I posted a blog about 6 weeks ago called "2L84ME?" in which I discussed my difficulty with motivation.
I'm pleased to say that after 6 weeks of tracking my nutrition and regular exercise, I'm down about 5-6 pounds. I weighed myself every day so I would be able to see exactly how the weight fluctuated from day to day, depending on my diet. As long as the trend continued downward, I knew I was on the right path.
I also didn't give up on piano. I didn't practice every single day, but I practiced a few hours a week and have gotten Chopin's Ballade #4 to the point where I am ready to perform it for some friends in a Virtual Piano Meetup in a couple of weeks. I'm also nearly ready to perform a piece by American composer Amy Beach (Improvisation, Op. 148, No. 3 - it's not well-known and it's very, very short.) I started learning Chopin's Barcarolle this past week and I'm halfway through. I also took up one of my husband's favorites - Chopin's Nocturne in E minor, Op. 72, No. 1 ("the one from 'Tombstone,'" as he calls it.)
So... literally, in my case, I need to just "press any key" to continue. I'm glad I stopped feeling defeated, like the day I wrote that blog. After all, every day we wake up is the first day of the rest of our life. So I plan to CONTINUE living life to the fullest and improving myself every day! Keep sparking, everyone!
