Busy day off

July and August have blown by so quickly! My sister, who lives near Denver, and her kids came to visit last month and we had a day on the lake with our brothers, who both have boats. My SIL took several pictures and captured some great shots of our families having fun, but also one of me in a swimsuit and let's just say it wasn't my greatest moment. When my sister returned home, she started experiencing COVID symptoms and tested positive. Luckily, her family and all of our families haven't gotten sick. Even better, her symptoms were mild and she's recovered.
In August, it got really busy at work with no signs of slow down. I've been working 11-12 hours per day during the week and 4-8 hours on Saturday. It leaves me really drained and my legs/feet swell up badly, so when I get home from work, I plop down in the recliner to put my feet up and eat comfort food and drink soda. Definitely not conducive to being healthy and feeling good.
Sundays are my one day off to sleep in, clean the house, grocery shop, etc. All the adulting stuff that's necessary. After reading a few articles this morning, I decided to focus on eating fewer carbs. I went grocery shopping and found organic edamame and mung bean fettuccine that's 6 net carbs per serving, so I decided to make chicken fettuccine alfredo for my lunches this week. I've never tried lower carb noodles before, so I hope they are good. I bought a big pack of chicken breasts and I have the rest of the chicken in my crock pot cooking with salsa, so I can have chicken tacos with low carb tortillas for supper. Feels good to meal prep to avoid the convenient but unhealthy choices! I still have to mow the lawn and do laundry later, but I'm getting a lot accomplished today and that feels satisfying.
I've got a house booked on AirBnB for labor day weekend in a suburb of Minneapolis. It's a 4.5 hour drive away from me, so a bit of a jaunt but I'm looking forward to it. The house looks nice (nicer than mine) and there are enough outdoor activities in the area to keep us entertained without being too peopley. My kids and I are excited.
My trip to Denver is now less than 2 months away. I know that practicing healthy habits now will make me feel better going into that trip. Something else to look forward to!
