Moving house - day five
Saturday, September 12, 2020
Our old house is now looking really empty and as we loaded the van, it became more and difficult to find things to fill the spaces... three helpers to load this morning, two cam along to help unload.
Today was an even hotter day, but as there were fewer heavy things taken, it was an easier day. Our friends had brought lunch too, so that was one less thing to organise. It was 34C so I’m really glad it was easier. Lots of steps today too, over 13,000!
After we finished unloading the van, we sat dangling our feet in the pool, only 21C in the water, so refreshing. If it wasn’t for the fur babies at the old house, I think we would have stayed overnight at the new house. As it was, we surprised them by getting home earlier, so we gave lots of cuddles and I pulled a Coq au Vin out of the freezer for dinner ( one I made during lockdown when I did a cookout after leaving the freezer open by accident). We even sat and watched an episode of an easy to watch British detective series, Midsomer murders - we record them for easy watching when there’s nothing in particular on TV. Added to that I swept the downstairs before dinner, easier now that the rooms are almost empty, but still lots of dog hair after two days...
Anyway, one more day with friends helping tomorrow, which should be the end of it, although we may do a small run on Monday with any awkward bits and then return the hire van on Monday evening. Anyway, we will take the fur babies to the new house on either Tuesday or Wednesday and stay over, coming back in the car to clean up and pick up anything else.
We are giving some friends a freezer and furniture, so that may well happen on Monday, when we have the van still. We are also giving another friend a fridge/freezer, but that will have to wait as he is away for a week. We are truly humbled and very grateful by the help we have been given. It has been hard physical work and our friends have been amazing, all people we have known for roughly two years, and all of them refusing even fuel and motorway toll expenses...
Anyway, I need to track and then get a good night’s sleep. Now that we have completed on the sale and almost finished moving in, the stress levels have decreased for both of us and sleep quality has improved - a little stress is good, but this has been worse because of the heat and mine has been worse because Laurie overthinks everything, makes himself ill with stress and makes my load heavier - It’s a good thing I have these broad Polish shoulders lol!
