Hi friends, I’m sorry it’s been so long since I last posted. I have had so much going on. I fell behind in my blogging intentions but I am going to restart them regularly. Despite the delays, I hope you will join me for my next 100 days. I have learned a lot about myself and about weight loss through my prior 200 day journey and would like to share with you what’s been helping me.
What’s kept me so busy the last few weeks is that I have been doing a tremendous amount of Fall cleaning in addition to work and family stuff. I’ve been selling off a lot of my used items – books, CDs and DVDs, old clothes, knic-knacs, etc., that are still in good condition – through flea markets, garage sales, consignment stores, and others I’ve donated to charities. It was time. I actually don’t abide clutter that well and things were getting too much for me. I had too much stuff that I’d collected through the years that I didn’t even use anymore. So it was better to sell or give it to someone else who could use it. It has turned into a bigger job than I realized. But I feel so much better having downsized the clutter. Also, it feels like I’m letting go of some extra weight.
I am declaring this a fresh start. The past 10 years have been rough with losses and challenges. There were a number of times when I felt like one of those cartoons where a character gets smacked on one side of his face, spinning him around only to get smacked on the other side. I had my struggles but I did not give up, and I thank the Lord that this year was a turning point. I feel a sense of positive expectation. I look forward to things again. Life is certainly not perfect but I don’t wake up sad every day or fighting my grief – this in spite of Covid 19. I’m grateful.
Anyway, I’ve been doing well with my diet and exercise since my doctor visit in August. I have gotten down to 168.8 lbs at this point. I stay on top of my food intake, and am conscious to stay active through the day. I work with weights 3 x week for 60-90 minutes and the rest of the days are cardio for 60-120 minutes. Sometimes I do cardio on the same day as the weights. Sometimes, if I didn’t get much cardio during the day, I will walk up and down the stairs in my house for 30 minutes to an hour (while listening to music or sermons). It is all helping and I am getting stronger and my clothes are getting looser! Yay!
As for my birthday, well, first I want to thank all those who sent me birthday wishes. I really appreciate it! Anyone who’s known me for a while knows I love my birthday. It’s not that I think my birthday is more special than anyone else’s – I’ve just always enjoyed them for the spirt of the day. I was blessed that my parents always made a big deal of them in our house so my sister and I keep the tradition going. It’s just fun. I usually spread my celebrations out for a week or more… having my family get-together, and then sometimes visits with friends spread out. Sometimes I will even take myself out for my own birthday celebration. :)
For my birthday, I had some friends visit me early the weekend before and we had a great visit. Below are photos from my birthday excursions last week…I always keep my iPod or camera handy. Hope you enjoy!
My Birthday - Thursday
My actual birthday was a mix of clouds and rain which gradually cleared up. My day started out with the mama deer and the 2 baby fawns in my backyard.
Also, I caught a picture of a dove sitting in the birdbath on my deck. The dove is a sweet little bird that’s been hanging out in my backyard the last few weeks. She often sits in the birdbath on warm days and drinks from it too.
I also noticed a beautiful spider web that a spider had woven between my deck and a nearby tree. It was beautiful and I am in awe of nature. I hope you can see the web - it's up against the deck railing in a wide circle.
My sister and I enjoyed brunch from a local restaurant outside – omelets, bacon, home fries, toast and I made coffee. We had a great visit. While we were eating, one of my chipmunk friends came to visit and kept scurrying back and forth past my chair on the stone wall alongside us. I got some peanuts and put a handful out for him. So as we ate and drank our coffee, the little chipmunk sat with us eating his pile of peanuts and stuffing some in his cheek pouches for later!
You can see his cheek pouches bulging even as he ate!
Then we enjoyed some birthday cake. It was yellow cake with vanilla pudding filling and buttercream frosting with lots of pink flowers - my favorite! It was delicious! And no, I did not eat the cake all by myself.
To close out my birthday evening, the young buck that’s been with the doe and 2 babies relaxed in my backyard for a bit before ambling off into the woods. For me, it was the perfect ending to the day!
The next day - Friday
On the day after my birthday, a Friday, I spent the day with a close friend. It was a cloudy day but thankfully it did not rain.
We went hiking for a few hours, and got takeout from a favorite Middle Eastern restaurant.
I had a Falafel platter with salad and seasoned rice and a warm pita. It was delicious! We took the food to a large state park and sat at a picnic table by a lake and ate our meals with a lovely view.
Then we walked around the park some more after dinner. Although it was a cloudy day, we enjoyed it and the views were lovely. The lake was pretty and we saw birds and flowers and a Blue Heron on the dock.

We finished off the evening with an ice cream cone from Dairy Queen and some coffee. It was another great day!
That Weekend - Another Hike
I went on to go for another hike later that weekend at another of our local state parks with a huge lake. It was a beautiful day and the views were spectacular – more water views, trails and flowers. We also caught sight of a beautiful Egret bird in a nearby river.
The first signs of Autumn I noticed - these red and orange colored leaves.

All in all, I had a truly wonderful birthday week! Thank you for joining me in this blog! Next, I will be sharing Phase 3 of another 100 days journey! I WILL get to 130 lbs and continue to lower my blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
Have a beautiful Sunday!
