Times are a changing and so is my body.

Sunday, November 22, 2020

It's been a very long time since I blogged. Life is busy; full of ups and downs. I find that age and my health make maintenance more of a challenge.

I work out 6 days a week. I'm doing weight training, yoga, and run. I also cycle and I walk almost everyday. Yet, the scale isn't my friend and continues to mess with my mind. My daughter says, "I look good" and overall I agree. I have a waist, I look strong and have muscle, and I have a butt. Which I guess is important according to 26 year olds.

I feel better in clothes than not. I think that comes with age, as well. Gravity and the years make skin looser and even when you feel the muscle, it isn't as clearly seen. (I had a colleague give my arm a squeeze and he seemed surprised. He commented that I work out.)

I still have my hypothyroidism and my heart murmur, but I've added osteopenia to my list. The last one is genetics at play. I can't do much about any of the diagnosis, but I'll keep fighting becoming a bent over old lady as long as I can. I want to be able to carry in my own groceries, no matter how heavy I pack them.

So I'm trying tracking my food for a while. I'll see if I can tweak the diet and loose some pounds or if it truly is "life." Either way I'm good. My husband loves me as I am. I look good in my jeans and I can bring in my 40-50 lbs bags of dog food, and I have muscles.

I'm counting my blessings and now off for a run with my dog. Happy moving Spark friends.

I am right there with you. It sounds as though things are progressing like normal for you - (yeah!) that you continue to work out and stay healthy. I find it's harder and harder for me to fit in the work-out time unless I force myself. I love spending my free time helping out my daughter by babysitting for her, though, so I feel that it's a good toss up. Mental health is important also! Nothing better than hugging a baby!

You are about the same age as my DD, Hayburner1969. We just had a similar conversation yesterday.
While a lot can be explained by menopause and age related changes (gravity is NOT MY FRIEND), I wonder if the stress of this year hasn't played a part too. There are so many of us of various age groups writing about the same observations.

All we can do is stick to the plan of a healthy lifestyle, honestly track and work for the "functional fitness" that eludes so many women as we age.

    Hang in there!

Tracking raises my awareness and seems to help me. I continue to have problems with food amnesia!
You’ll figure this out. You’ve got this!

Functional fitness, kiddo! You've got it!

I'm in similar boat, with similar diagnoses, but have a few years on you... and have a similar mind-set: it's not so much vanity as ability these days. And to be honest... from the photos I've seen lately on FB? You look GOOD, woman!

    Awright!

Accept the priceless gift - the joy of work. Apply the greatest value in life: love people and serve them. You will attract big and generous portions of success.
