Empty Nest Holiday
Sunday, December 27, 2020
Christmas 2020 was unique all over the world. For my dh and I it was the third holiday season with no kids in the house. Since we live overseas, we are far from ALLof our family, all the time. Nothing new for us! But there was a newness to not even having any friends that wanted to come over or get together. No big parties, no big gatherings, no trips.
My husband gave a worker the day off at the fish farm project, and stayed in his place. I took our Christmas dinner up to the lake and we had a Christmas picnic in the shade of an old boat.
We were thankful to visit with nearby, expat, missionary colleagues on "Boxing Day" for a meal and some chat time. We came home after rather bittersweet good-byes as they announced their intentions to retire and leave the field soon.
But, all in all life is good and we have little to worry us. We continue to make some of our interior visits, but plan to take a few weeks off as Covid cases are rising all around from end of the year festivities.
