It's Women's Healthy Weight Day! Today is to remind us gals to aim to be healthy with healthy weight, not to look like the air-brushed models in magazines. The celebration is part of a week-long observance for women's healthy weight and is observed on Thursday of the 3rd full week of January.
--Get to Know Your Customers Day: this holiday is held once a quarter, the 3rd Thursday of January, April, July and October; due to electronic communications, businesses don't have the same connections to customers as before; today is to strengthen relationships between seller/buyer and business to customer.
--International Playdate Day: today is a reminder of the importance of play and social skills for our kids; our lives are so much more hectic that we have to plan ahead when our kids can play with their friends but it is very important to make the effort; granted, with the pandemic restrictions, playdates can be risky and usually need to be virtual.
--International Sweatpants Day: oh, I can get behind this one; sweatpants were introduced in 1920 by French fashionista Emile Camuset, founder of Le Coq Sportif; the original sweatpants were knitted gray jersey pants to help athletes exercise easier.
--National Granola Bar Day: today is a salute to a tasty snack; granola bars(consist of oats, dried fruit, nuts and seeds; touted as being healthy but sweeteners and chocolate are included which adds to the calories; they are also loaded with binders such as brown rice syrup, honey and maple syrup; choose carefully if you make them part of your daily food intake.
--National Hugging Day: also known as National Hug Day; we need more hugging days with the caveat that it needs to be virtual; hugging is so good for you; it releases oxytocin, the hormone associated with happiness, and reduces cortisol which is associated with stress; be sure to give an extra hug to your loved ones.
--National New England Clam Chowder Day: today is a salute to a wonderful comfort food; chowder was first introduced by fishing villages along the coast in France during the 16th century; made with milk or cream and no tomatoes; in 1939, Maine passed a law that made it illegal to add tomatoes to clam chowder.
--One-Liners Day: with the award season in approaching, this is the time to honor those one-liners from movies that live long after the movie such as "Fasten your seatbelts. It's going to be a bumpy ride" from 'All About Eve'; what's your favorite line and associated movie?
--Own Your Own Home Day: today was started in 1920 as a way to encourage people to save and be thrifty so to be able to afford a home; after the mortgage failure crisis of 2008, home ownership has dropped and feelings are more mixed as to the desire of home ownership.
--Squirrel Appreciation Day: a love/hate relationship as they're cute but they rob the bird feeder and dig up the flower bulbs; for this day, we'll give them a pass and maybe put some peanuts out for them.
