Have you ever sent someone a gift, so excited that the recipient would experience great joy—and then discover, having received the package, they are not interested in opening to see what’s inside? You ponder the situation and are left dumbfounded.
When Jesus arrived “into his own country…he could do no mighty work, save that he laid hands on a few sick folk, and healed them. And he marveled because of their unbelief” (Mark 6:1, 5-6).
In His own country, He was something common, not worth hearing, grossly underestimated. Too familiar, they thought they knew Him. Their preconceived ideas and judgments of Him kept them from “seeing” who He really was/is. He was judged by His outward appearance, and by whom and where He was raised. His townsfolk considered Him common, plain, and ordinary.
The Word of God made flesh! (John 1:1, 14).
God’s Word—the Bible—is the Living Word. It is neither common, plain, nor ordinary.
God’s hand is displayed today—every day—through His mighty works . Often missed by many as God’s miraculous hand at work, His wonders are interpreted as common, plain, and ordinary.
Too familiar intellectually, many miss “seeing” the Word of God as spirit and life! It is neither common, plain, nor ordinary. The Bible is God’s Living Bread. Never underestimate its power to save your life…John 6:47-51; Luke 2:10-11
