Happy Birthday, Lazarus !

Monday, February 22, 2021

How important was it to Jesus that those who followed Him—who committed themselves to Him and His doctrine—understand and believe? Our answer is in John 11:14-15. Scripture makes it clear these were Jesus’ close friends. He heard the brother of the two sisters was extremely ill. Yet when Jesus heard that Lazarus was sick, He did not make a move. He waited. He waited to know from God the Father the when, what, where, and how He was to proceed. We read that He waited “two days still in the same place where he was” (John 11:6).

It is only when the Holy Spirit directed him to leave, that Jesus left to do the Father’s will. He waited for light—a rhema word—from God. It was then that Jesus knew the when, what, where, and how. In His own words, Jesus said, “Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world. But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him” (John 11:9-11; Psalm 119:105).

Most importantly, to the Lord as well, was that those disciples—who had seen this Man calm the wind and waves—would witness Jesus call the dead to life. Jesus remarks, “Lazarus is dead. And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him” (John 11:14-15).

We know the rest of the story…We who were dead in sin have received life everlasting! (John 3:3, 5-8). If we believe, we will see the glory of God. “O send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me unto thy holy hill, and to thy tabernacles” (Psalm 43:3). Moreover, Jesus said, “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come. He shall glorify me [Jesus]: for he [Holy Spirit] shall receive of mine, and show it unto you” (John 16:13-15).

With God, nothing is impossible. Nothing! Receive the gift of the Holy Spirit today. A victorious life awaits… (Luke 24:49; Romans 8:14). God will do exactly as He promised!
