Hello fun loving 60's or something...This sounds like a fun place to be,and BTW, Tilly, a belated Happy Birthday. Today, I am one year cancer free so it's a day of celebration for me. However, last night I "fell off the wagon" by celebrating our new car that we bought yesterday. We picked a new restaurant and I ordered the fried shrimp (the only way they cooked them) and had a salad. There were 10 shrimp and I'll have to admit that they were extremely tasty. I've decided today though that I will not beat myself up over it as I've done in the past but will use today as a brand new day and hop right back on the wagon. Have a great day everyone.emoticon

I know how you feel! I cannot believe I am 61. I still feel like the same person I was 30 years ago! I do not feel old at all; sometimes I am surprised by what I see in the mirror. Not at all a pleasant surprise!

HINOON,
Just think of the perks you get at 62. Social Security comes in handy and free passes to State parks ( where you can exercise $ free) not to mention Senior Citizen discounts. BTW, Exercising and eating right helps to NOT look 61. I'm 62 in August and feel wonderful ( thanks to Sparks!)

Unloaded our RV today to sell it - hadn't seen some of this stuff for 6 years. Our camping buddy died and his wife moved to CA so we hadn't used it in forever. So I spent several hours up the steps and down the steps carrying all those things back into the house - back will be sore tomorrow, I think.

I posted this message earlier elsewhere and just found this site - probably the place for me! I'm 65, have been on this bumpy diet road since the birth of my 37-yr old son. I'm a lifetime Weight Watcher, have no real athletic ability, cannot run (something is fused in my lower back) and have only about 9 lbs to still lose. Can anyone relate? Been in Sparks since Jan, lost 12 lbs so far. Use the treadmill 3xwk and walk with 3-yr old grandson 2 days a week he is with me, but not much else, besides yard work.

The greatest adventure is what lies ahead.....

Hi,
My name is Jeri. I don't think I've spoken to anyone on this board. I'll be 62 in August. I am not new to Sparks and have been on since Feb. I just had some surgery 4 weeks ago and now i'm ready to restart my excercise which I haven't done in 4 weeks. My treadmill needs me! and my new weights never even had a workout. I have been working in the garden with the beautiful weather we've been having and thats great because i drink about 10-12 cups of water. I WAS a WW ( lost 20lbs) and switched to sparks and lost 4lbs. the first week- since then it's been slow, but I love Sparks. I'm eating healthier than ever. Nice to meet all of you . Talk soon. -

Yes, it is a beautiful day. I'm staying in until I finish the baby quilt for a dil who is due next month. Then, maybe I'll go out for a little bit.

I'm just beginning to scratch the surface of this diet. It's different from the one I've been following, so it will take some adjustments. I had already given up snacks, which are a part of the old one. My reason for doing that is to eat three sensible meals knowing that if I don't eat it at mealtime, I don't eat it. I used to eat a light lunch, for example, planning on a snack later. Well, snacks became too large. I can't just eat 10 nuts or whatever. No willpower. I do have a glass of red wine with dinner, but will keep it to one glass. For the first two months of the year this routine resulted in a 9# loss, but then I slipped. Back on track.

Pepper,

And we are having a beautiful day today!

I've been on SP since January, and have had great success with changing my life. I always ate healthy foods-- but too much of it. And I indulged in wine and my favorite, pistachio nuts!
Since joining SP I am no longer drinking wine, or snacking; I've switched to decaf coffee; I'm eating sensibly but with treats; and exercising. I don't feel like I am on a diet, but SP has made me succeed where previously I could not give up wine, or caffeine, or nuts, --nor was I consistantly exercising.
Hope it works for you!

Hi Karen,

No, you are not that far from me. We share pretty much the same weather.

How long have you been following this plan, and is it working? I've been on another plan for almost three years and am basically at a standstill. Initially, I lost 24# but have gained back about 12 of them. Not good.

My biggest problem is eating out, and we do a lot of that. I simply have no will power. When I started the other plan, I totally cleaned out my kitchen, fridge, freezer and restocked with only legal foods. I'm fine at home - well, as long as there are no nuts around - but when I go out, I fail. Personal problem, I know.

My goal at present is to lose 5# by Memorial Day. I WILL fit into my size 16 pantsuit by then.

Hi everyone,

I'm just getting started with the Spark program and looking forward to meeting people and getting motivated to lose weight.

I'm 65, married 42 years, and would you believe, we began our marriage in Alaska? Now we live in the MidHudson Valley of NY. A couple of years ago our children gifted us with an Alaskan cruise, which brought back many memories.

We have six children, and our eleventh grandchild is due next month. Looking forward to chatting.

PS I am trying to find a large inflatable rubber ducky for our annual lake regatta (this is low-rent type - we all have rafts, mostly driven by low wattage electric motors, on our little shallow, swampy lake because it's too shallow for real boats!) The name of our raft is the Lucky Duck, so I wanted a duck to blow up and tow behind. I checked the internet but did not find anything. Most had "out of stock"

Greetings fellow SP,
I've started a new group that's called Fun loving people over 60; please check it out and join me in creating mutual motivation, humor, or just expressing your thoughts for our unique issues as "mature" people starting the last HALF of their lives. emoticon
Hopefully, we'll all live to be a fabulous 120 years old with the healthier nutrition and exercise choices that Sparkpeople has unveiled for us!
Hoping to hear from you,
alaskawoman
