I don't know. I suspect if it's borderline warm enough, they will attempt to perform a cleansing flight to relieve themselves. If they don't survive, I would think the rest of them would know to sit tight.

Nice to see you - I was getting a bit concerned! Shame about the bees - do they send kind of sacrificial bees out to test the temperature? Or was it just a mistake on the part of the bees - or something that always happens?

Still shrinking. Slowly but surely.

A handful of bees came out yesterday in +35F. Only a handful.
They perished right away. Still too cold for them still.
It needs to warm up to +40F before they can really come out.

I had a bit of bonanza! I've already got David Kessler's classic "The end of overeating" which I've had for several years - it was my first eye-opener. And several similar ebooks in my library. But after watching the Sugar Summit videos I've now got these three as ebooks:-

Sugar Summit is over. I'm now hunting down some of the speaker's books to learn more. I suspect next year's summit will be even bigger.

The big take away from all this is that everyone is different and has unique dietary needs. No one formula works for everyone.

A good diet is the least expensive and surest way to maintain anyone's health.

For me, I'm fine tuning my high fat, low carb diet towards success.

And NO SUGAR!

Judy Collins hit the nail right on the head. Obesity is destroying our healthcare system. I know folks who are losing their lives to sugar, have lost limbs, or have died from disease linked to sugar. So sad.

Only 2 days left on the summit.

Yes, a lot of video.

And as one Doctor noted, it takes about an hour to get a point across.
It can take several years before you finally 'GET IT', that 'SUGAR' and 'OLD HABITS' really ARE the enemy.

When I finally came across Dr. Lustig's videos, that's when the light bulb came on and I finally understood what caused my heart attack! That was a 2 hour college level conference for doctors, but I took the time to look up stuff and make sense of it all.



Enjoying my new clothes today.
I still have a long way to go, but I'm getting there.

Watching videos on the Quit Sugar Summit and I have to say I R impressed.
The stories about reducing sugar are amazing.

The bottom line so far is remove the sugar, carbs, and alcohol, to restore your health.
Boost your immunity system, lose weight, get fit, gain more energy. On and on.

Stories from doctors from around the world are saying the same thing. Added sugar is addictive and poisons the body's health.

I know for a fact that cutting out the sugar has helped me lose the excess weight.
My spare tire continues to shrink. I'm quickly reaching my goal.

More good news...I couldn't understand why my clothes were fitting so loosely. To the point of being uncomfortably loose. Silly me, I'm losing weight and thought nothing of the consequences. I went to the store today and bought some new clothes. I went down a full size. I have been wearing men's size Medium for what seems like forever. Today, I fit comfortably well in men's size Small now. A lot of used clothes are now in the trash.

However, I'm not done yet. I see that by the end of this week, I should reach the upper range of a healthy BMI. The next goal after that is to make it to the middle of the BMI range for my height. I don't know what that weight will be. So, my journey continues until I find out. I'm so excited.

I have some 'pacer poles' in the shed - I bought them years' ago, but I think they're probably the same (or much like) the current Nordic Walking poles - they give the upper body a bit of a workout whilst your walking. I keep meaning to dust them off - they'd be similar (not the same of course) as exercise on an elliptical - especially if I walked uphill!

Anyway, that's long way round of saying (1) I'm glad to hear you are 'in the groove' with the elliptical and enjoying it and (2) you reminded me about my special walking poles!

Starting to enjoy the elliptical.

Either my feet are getting used to it, or slowing down is what works the best. I have found that if I move slowly with the feet, and put more effort into the hands and arms, I can get the workout I want without much effort. The machine is so smooth and easy on the body, and my arms are working like I'm a cross country skier. It's really a good safe way to burn calories.

Counting the food calories continues to be my best way to knock down the weight.
High fiber and low carbs. Sticking with 100% whole wheat or grains. No white bread as it lacks fiber.

The last time I weighed what I am now was probably around 1975 through 1980.
Working much harder as I am lighter and it's more difficult to burn the calories.

But, I'm eating well, not going hungry. I just make sure I'm not snacking outside of my calorie range. I'm very close to reaching my first BMI goal that I've been trying so very hard to achieve.

The slow journey continues.
I have the right habits and the right attitude.
It's just a matter of time.

Flogged away another 300 Calories running 3.75 miles in Zone 2.
Tomorrow, I test my skills again on the elliptical machine.

Hike planned for today around Independence Rock. I hope the trail is not snowed in. I need to get some fresh air and do something different.

Back on the elliptical.

Added 2 deg to the peddles.
Made an effort to come down on heel and less on toes. The change was a huge improvement. I'm still going to get larger shoes. I can see there is a learning curve to this monster. This machine seems to be a mix of stair-climber/Nordic-skier/jogger/rowing contraption.

Completed 300+ calories in less than 45 minutes, all in Zone 4.
Since I'm not running, I can maintain Z4 as it is significantly less stressful on all the lower body parts. Some upper body workout gets done.

I may switch back and forth on treadmill and elliptical.
Z2/Z3 on the treadmill and Z4 on the elliptical.

Best news of all, I'm still shrinking.
Counting calories. Maintaining quality.
Adjusted my fat loss program to -2.2 lb in 10 wks.

Updated my bullet journal & making my morning coffee.

Tried out elliptical machine today.
It's a good workout.

But I noticed it's hard on my feet from going numb. Not sure why.

I suspect the constant pressure on the balls of my feet are at play.

My current running shoes are fine on the treadmill and running, but get real hot on the elliptical. May have something to do with how my feet compresses the foam, resulting in overheating, I think.

I'll have to research this a bit. But, I believe the elliptical will make a great HIIT workout.

It might be as simple as wearing a larger pair of shoes.

Update: I just read that the pedals are rather flat footed and are the cause of my grief. There is an articulation adjustment underneath the pedal which would allow me to rotate (articulate) it up to 10 degrees. This would make it so that the pressure is shifted back along the entire foot. I'll try that at my next opportunity, along with larger shoes.

Gill, I'm highly motivated.

Stay strong, Harry, you've done so well. Xmas eating has derailed me for several years because of the lure of the sugar.

This year, I find I don't have the capacity to eat a quantity of food any more!

Re the plateau - apparently our bodies get used to our calorie input and calorie output and do get past it, we need to give it a jolt. I know you are a researcher, so I'll leave it to you - you'll get there. Hang on in there. I think you're in the lead with the ticker at the moment.

Merry Christmas to all who read this.

Day off from the grind today.
However, I'm still counting calories with passion.
Another day of avoiding the piles of treats lurking throughout the house.

Why does this happen every year?
I have yet to see a picture of the 'Horn of Plenty' to be spilling out candy.



Oh well. I bag up the candy to hand out to others.

Another 300 Calorie burn.
But, I have hit a new plateau.
I can't let this be a new turning point upwards.

Need to double down on the calorie counting AGAIN!
Something is leaking in.

Sadly that trick doesn't work for me. 100% wholewheat bread, butter and honey would be very addictive for me and I could eat the whole loaf! Wheat, dairy and sugar - all three are problematic for me.

I do eat all those things. But I have to be very moderate and careful about it.

Gill, the trick is to eat bread high in fibre. The fibre fills you up and feeds the good bacteria. 100% Whole wheat bread (or grains) is the best. Anything else is wishful thinking.

For any carb that I want to eat, I aim for 3g of fibre or more per serving. Otherwise, it's just a harmful carb.

Keep in mind, the less fibre, the cheaper and easier it is for the food industry to harm us.

The label MUST say "100% Whole Wheat".
I add real butter and sweeten with pure raw honey (from local bee keepers only).

Bread seems to be a thing for me too - if I eat bread, it makes me hungry, and makes the scale go up. Hard to give it up though.

Zone 2 seems to be my best bang for my time spent working out.

Doubling down on calorie counting is paying off.
Calorie counting is working, and continues to work.

Staying away from added sugar helps as I don't have to workout so hard to burn it off. If I don't eat it, I don't have to burn it off.

Amazing how that works out.

I'm sorry about the sleep - I've been having very dream-filled sleep recently (I read that it was a common feature for a lot of people in this pandemic).

Skinny jeans, eh? woo hoo!

I was going to go for a run this morning, but had deadlines to meet. Then it has been super-windy and heavy rain for the remainder of the day. I have my rainproof running kit ready for tomorrow morning!
