I know it's tough to do, getting off sugar.
It takes a lot of will power and determination.

However, your body and health will thank you for making the right choices.
You can always re-gift the candy to a food bank or just dispose of the chocolates. It's the thought that counts.

Also, I would try to eat more meals throughout the day that keep you in a calorie range. Eating right is the first step, then adjusting your calories to meet a goal over time.

It will take time to build healthy habits.

I'm a confessed sugar addict. Its day 3 for me and withdrawal is setting in..I'm drinking water..hoping this will curb those "sugar cravings".
I ate my one meal at noon..drank at least 9 glasses of water through out the day..Worked in the yard for a couple of hours..took neighbor kids to McDonald's ..I didn't get anything for myself. I got a lb. box of See's Chocolates from a fellow in the mail..Oh my..I am strong (not really)..Now what to do with such a literally sweet gift..without letting him know I didn't eat them..LOL
Hope you all are successful in your diet journey today..on ward and up ward..tomorrow is a good day to stay on track..I do feel good about today's choices.

Data shows my heart getting stronger.

Morning jog for 1.5 miles at 4MPH for 22 minutes and average heart rate was 106 BPM. MAX was 116. I may look into a 5K run. No foot pain at this speed.

I can see now why runners can do a recovery run in Zone 2 with no effort whatsoever.

Weight still leveling off. Started taping my midsection to track inflation rate.

Can't trust the scale.

Oh well. Not going to worry about it.
Will continue to:

Avoid sugar
Count calories
Exercise
Eat healthy

UPDATE:

I have no baseline for normal waist or weight measurements for my age and height. After much thought today, I've decided to track both. Advice is, if weight not changing, but losing inches from waist, then not to trust the scale.
So, I will start tracking my waist line 1/2" above belly button. If I'm shrinking but weight remains the same, then that is proof that I am packing on muscle. I bought a new tape to begin tracking waist in inches at weekly intervals.

0.6lb a month is probably very good in the long-term.......... if your 'ticker' is right - you're slowly making your way down those last 5lbs or so.

I'm aiming to lose 8lbs this year........... g r a d u a l l y!

Reviewing my data.
Trend is leveling off to a new plateau.
I have slowed down to -0.6 pounds/month.

The good news is it's still a downward trend.
Just not the rate loss I prefer.

I'm going to double my efforts on my calorie counts......again.

More proof, you cannot outrun the fork.
It's all part of the journey.

Mr. Coffee is working over time.

There's a few ups and downs in there, but the trend line shows I'm on target. I'm in no hurry. The journey is more important than the destination. Doing my best to stay on the right path.

Started strength training again.



Arm is better so I have planned sessions on the weight machine to build arm muscle. The lightest weights possible so I don't hurt myself.

I keep looking for my "FEEL FULL" switch.



You know, throw the switch and you don't feel hungry anymore.
Do I have one? If so, where is it?

I can't find it, but I did search the internet, again, and found this advice...

"Turn on the feel-full switch before you eat. There is about a 15-minute lag between the time we eat and the time when the feel-full proteins in our gut are released....One way to counter this problem is to consume a small snack, preferably one high in protein, of about 100 calories 15 minutes before your meal so that the feel-full proteins are activated when you start to eat your meal."

My other "FEEL FULL" switch is mental.
Mental distraction works really well with me.

If I'm engaged with some activity that distracts the hunger feeling, I can go all day without eating. But, them kind of days are rare, like when I was younger and dumber.

I was thinking today...my weight loss journey requires infinite patience.
It didn't matter while I was gaining weight, over the past 63 years.

Now it matters much.

The food industry has a lot of patience. They know that if they can get me hooked on sugar, I will be following their food plan. Fatten their wallets.

I prefer MY PLAN. However, my plan requires a lot of patience to reach my goals.
By being patient, I will profit from MY PLAN.

More nutritious food.
Better health.
Thinner me, fatter wallet.
Happiness.

Patience and persistence beats impatience and defeat.
It's not hard work. It's mind over matter.

From the dictionary...Persistence - the continuance of an effect after its cause is removed.

So, when I reach my goal, I need to persist to maintain weight.

Not let the food industry plan my meals.

My plan, my success. Not their plan for MY failure.

Just food for thought.

Mr Scale reports that I'm almost back on track.
Losing weight at a rate of -3.0 pounds per month.
My goal is -3.3 per month.

Just a little more course correction...



Staying focused.
Counting my calories.

My downward trend is starting a slow swing, so to counter that, I'm reducing my calorie intake by 50 calories to 1800/day.

It's like steering a big ship.



Small changes at the right time to make a minor course correction.
A big ship won't stop on a dime, nor will it turn too sharply.

Doing my best to stay on course.

I have 3 more 20 minute walks planned for today.

Oh, fantastic - great video! I enjoyed that.

There are certainly lots of daffodils and flowers appearing here - and on nice days, it feels Spring-like. With your snowfall, sounds like you'll be enjoying some lovely snowy peace & quite......... guess you're all stocked up?

Well done with the long-term goal. I stepped into the gym for an induction session yesterday, and that felt like a long-term goal too - a long-term commitment to making my fitness my main hobby!

Duh!

Almost forgot to check in today.

I set a new long term goal today. May help me as I been looking too closely at the short term goals, which I have been meeting. It's easy to forget the long term goals. Sometimes we need to step back and see the big picture to keep things in check.

Snowing today. A big blizzard. All roads into and out of town are blocked off. No public travel.

On the good side, the ground hog predicts an early spring.

Did my daily weigh in.

Still dropping.



Ate so well yesterday. I didn't feel hungry at all.
Was not able to eat the full 1850 calories as I got plenty of fibre. Came in at 1670 total. I'm getting better at it. I have learned to control the added salad dressing. I put my salad creation on the food scale, then I slowly drip the dressing onto the salad until I get the desired calorie count in grams. This is where calories have been sneaking in. Measuring the dressing in grams is a more accurate way for me to control them sneaky calories.

It's a chore for sure, but it's paying off. It's a great habit I need to maintain.

Along with...

Weighing ALL my food with a food scale.
Avoiding sugar at all costs.
Drinking a lot of water.

Drinking my morning coffee.

That's good information - thanks. One does wonder/worry as one gets older!

After my 5k parkrun this morning.......... and after sitting on the bus for an hour, my left ankle felt really stiff, almost like a sprain. But once I got moving again, it loosened up and felt better. I know I do need to work harder to stay flexible at 65 - and that has a knock-on effect on the joint's efficiency.

You're doing great!

I've decided to return to a mostly vegan lifestyle. (I was a strict vegan for 2 years and lost a lot of weight and I actually enjoyed the food.) I got lazy with food prep and stopped being accountable to myself. This time I'm going to eat some animal based foods (eggs, cottage cheese, fish, dairy) in a very limited quantity - at least for now. It's more of a whole food, plant based lifestyle. No added sugar or highly processed foods - just like before.

I did not weigh my food or track calories while a vegan. It really simplifies that aspect of losing weight and maintaining. So, I'm going back to that and I'm going to stop tracking and weighing for now and see how things develop. Of course, I'll continue with exercise and stretching.
