Thank you, Yollie. I am speechless that you found my question so far back in the forum. I'll guess is that cooking is one of your passions.

The recipe you found is it exactly. The link didn't come up when I googled last summer -- or it was on page 6000 of Google's findings, but I found the cookbook back then at the Strand, an important, local bookstore specializing in used books, among other categories. I didn't buy it because my copy is packed away. Instead I scribbled the recipe and put the book back on the Strand's shelf; no one batted an eyelash. Mission accomplished and the recipient of the banana loaf was surprised and mighty happy.

Again, thanks. Stay safe at this life-changing time.

This recipe implies it's been taken directly from the cookbook. Is it possible you missed this website when you did your google search:

If you do, please let's hear from you. It's really "The New York Times Cookbook," first published in 1961 when Craig C. was food editor. I can't find my copy and am eager for one recipe, Banana Tea Loaf. Googling brings up several listings that claim to have it, but each has been altered by the claimer.

If you have the book, please take a few minutes to enter the recipe for me. I want to make it for the MFA Writing student who has been volunteer facilitator of a writing group I've been attending for more than two years. His last session is coming up week after next. Months ago it came out that banana loaf is one of his favorite things. He's such a honey and so talented and bright that, in light of the age difference, I told him long ago that, if his mother will sign off on him, I'll adopt.

Thank you, thank you.
