Bran flakes! No raisins or sugar added, just the plan ol' bran.

I LOVE crunchy stuff, it's very mentally satisfying. :)

Air popped popcorn. You can have a good amount for the calories, and it's quite filling.

It can be kind of divisive, but I'm a BIG fan of roasted seaweed. It's crispy, you can get it in nice, salty, savory flavors like teriyaki or onion, and it's only around 25 calories a serving. It's packed with nutrients as well.

I also enjoy hummus on whole wheat flatbread. Add some vegetables if you want to make it extra filling and nutritious.

As you hold on... as long as you do what's in your heart... I believe you can do the right thing.

Kris nailed it... fats do not cause you to gain weight; eating more calories than your body needs does.

"Munchies" are often an indication of imbalance. I agree; I would up my protein and fats in meals, also get adequate sleep.

Kris makes a good point about fat. Your body needs healthy fats to function properly and to help you feel satiated. Low fat and fat free foods that are meant to be have fat often have cheaper ingredients like sugar added to make them taste better.

@GYMRAT54 - fats per se don't cause a person to gain weight. Over-eating calories does that.

Tried making zucchini chips. They weren't worth the time and trouble. Doubt kale chips would be any different. Fats were what caused me to gain weight and kept me from losing weight.
I've been eating yogurt, fresh fruit, reduced fat cheese on reduced fat Triscuit crackers, celery with peanut butter and carrots.
Thinking of trying the air-popped popcorn if I can find popcorn and an air popper. May be hard to find in the stores these days...

I have some examples from my artillery of snacks that fall into some of the advice you have been given. Snacks are indeed small meals and should include a balance of carbs, fat, and protein.

1. 1/2 to 3/4 cup 2% cottage cheese with 1/2 cup of fruit
2. Greek yogurt with a mix in, which depends on my mood: 1 tablespoon of chia seeds, 1 teaspoon of cocoa powder with 1/2 tablespoon of sliced almonds, 1/2 tablespoon of sunflower seeds.
3. 2 Wasa crackers with 15 grams of cream cheese + 1 serving of nitrate free deli meat and 3 ounces/85 grams of apples

I would try incorporating more fat into your regular diet for starters. Beyond that snacks are just small meals. A green salad topped with nuts and a little bit of cheese, air popped popcorn, apples and cheese and crackers, baked potato with salsa or steamed broccoli and cheese, baked chickpeas, zucchini boats with lentils or ground meat, tomatoes stuffed with crab salad, part of a wrap (think like pinwheels, hummus and vegetables are great here), any fruit baked with oat crumble (add a bit of yogurt or ice cream if you want), baked vegetable chips (as in slice thinly, lightly brush with oil, bake and season baked vegetable chips) and so forth. It also depends on what texture you prefer and if you like sweet or savory. If you like crunchy and sweet, no amount of pickled cucumber slices is going to do much for you. Popcorn topped with granola or a bit of honey might be a better fit, or perhaps marinade a root vegetable like daikon in a sweet pickle and then bake. You could also try soaking root vegetables in apple cider vinegar and using various chili or bbq type spices to get something sweeter and spicier for chip making if that hits the spot.

-google first. ask questions later.

I would query why you HAVE the munchies in the first place. For a lot of people it is because they aren't eating enough filling food and/or eating under their minimum calorie needs, taking into account their exercise.

Having said that, I like eating a piece of fruit (not necessarily a whole apple, or pear, etc.) and maybe some yoghurt, or a little healthy version granola with some fruit. Sometimes I will have a low carb (high fibre and protein) slice of bread, toasted with a little avocado or a small amount of cheese on it

Some find eating a stick of celery with some peanut butter or a little cheese in it helps, too.

My favorite munchie is popcorn. Find the right microwave brand -- or make your own -- and it's a lower calorie, high fiber snack.

Did you ever try making your own "kale chips"? I love them so much. Here is the recipe I use.

https://www.realsimple.com/food-recipes/browse-all-recipes/kale-chips-recipe

They are crunchy but in a melt in your mouth kind of way, salty and cheesy tasting (because of the nutritional yeast). So satisfying. I can eat the whole batch in one sitting! ha!

lately, I've having cravings for the munchies...the kind of food where you want to keep putting food in your mouth. I've been able to resist that for the past couple of months and was able to lose a stubborn 5 pounds! Was so glad for that! But it's getting harder to do resist that. What kind of snack/food would be satisfying to eat if you have a severe case of the munchies?

To give you an idea of what I've been wanting to eat: mixed nuts, dark chocolate M&Ms, chips, crackers and cheese, toasted English muffins with butter and jelly...non-stop!

I don't want to undo what I had been able to accomplish, to gain those 5 stubborn pounds back and then some!
