Welcome Heather,

90 lbs. Nice achievement. You can do that again. Just believe in yourself. I believe in you and I hardly know you. I know you will do well. You all are giving me great ideas for some up coming challenges. Are you game? I hope so.

Love and peace,
Mary

Hi I'm Heather
I was part of sparks about 4 years ago. Lost over 90bls of weight before with the challenges and support. Since then things took a slide in my life. I gained and lost since then. It has been very difficult to stay motivated and on track. I try to keep myself thinking about the reason's why I want to lose weight but sometimes all of the work, exhaustion, sadness, and just stress gets to me.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Welcome Liz:

I wish you the best of luck. We all do. You can get back on that wagon and conquer it. Just the fact you have never quit is proof of the fact you aren't giving up.

Welcome Amy,

Impressive. The only running I ever do is chasing after my dogs or children. Not my children. How does one prepare to train for a marathon and how did you ever get into doing that? Have you ever won any awards or anything like that?

Right now, getting 7000 steps in a day is a challenge for me. I know I can do it. I've just hit a lazy bone. I just got to get out of my funk and just start doing it.

Congrats to you.

Love and peace,
Mary

I am so terrible at replies.

Hi Tabatha. I think you are heading yourself in the right direction. Keep it up. One thing I have learned is not to look at how much you have lost or need to lose because you will tend to see those numbers and will become fixated on those numbers. Instead, start listening to your body. If you start to just listen and become aware of what your body need and wants then something in your brain will shut off then something else will open. You are becoming in tuned to how you react to food. Like say, you are eating spaghetti and meatballs and you feel your tummy getting full and each bite you take become slower and slower. Stop your self from eating anymore. Throw out the food or give it to your dog keep it for left overs. Just get it out of your sight. Your body and mind is telling you, you are down. I'm sorry to become preachy. I don't mean to.

Good luck on all of your success.
Mary

Hello,

My name is Tabatha. I just turned 40 in October and have about 42 pounds left to lose. I am a single mom of 2 children. My oldest is 20 and is getting married in Oct of 2021. My youngest is 15 and still in high school. My oldest lives a couple hours away going to college and working full time with her fiance. My youngest and I live in a 3 bedroom house together. I was told in March of 2019 that I was pre diabetic so I decided to lose weight. I was 242 pounds when I started. Today I weighed in at 176.4. I am no longer pre diabetic but still losing weight to get as healthy as I can for my children and my health. My doctor says she wants to see me at 135. I am not sure I can get that low anymore. I will do my best but lately I have been hovering around this weigh and up to 180. I have been around this weight since October of 2019. I am thinking I might have plateaued but the problem is during this time I have also quit smoking so now I am having trouble with food. I want to eat all the time and it is really hard not to just grab the food I want. Thank you for reading and have a wonderful day.

Good morning! My name is Valerie. I turned 42 yesterday and decided that instead of gaining 10 pounds this holiday season, I would get healthier instead.

My weight has been up, down and all around the last few years, but I've had a significant gain since starting my own business last spring... sudden drop in income had me shopping for the cheapest food I can find, high levels of stress, reaching more frequently for alcohol and the overall busyness that left me with little time for hiking (which is the only exercise I really enjoy.)

I charged up the ol' Fitbit yesterday and started logging my food. I even went out for a walk first thing this morning.

Hope to get to know some of you soon :) Sharing struggles and successes with other people and knowing others are in the same boat is very encouraging for me.

Valerie

It's important to track your food so you can go back and see what you have been eating. You might not be eating as well as you think you are. You also shouldn't deprive yourself on anything. Set up little goals for yourself. Like, if you love potato chips. Then make yourself a goal of eating a small bag once a week. If you don't deprive yourself your craving are going to lessen and then more likely you won't even know they are missing. Does this make sense?

Why is it important to track food if you are IF? I was hoping that caloric intake would be reduced enough without tracking. I am just getting started. Thanks

Hi everyone ,

I'm new to Spark People. I am 41 and have a 13 year old daughter. I currently weight 176 pounds with my goal weight being 140 pounds, a weight I have not been for about ten years. I've managed to lose five pounds so far but it has been agonisingly slow (i'm talking months not weeks!) and the scales now seem to have come to a complete standstill.

I've joined Spark People for some added motivation to help me move past this plateau and start moving towards my goal. I'm trying to eat healthy, smaller portions and exercise daily. Some of my challenges are trying not to eat and drink too much when socialising and resisting snacking when i'm feeling stressed.

Hi, I'm 47 with a 13-month old daughter (not a typo LOL). Need to lose 40-50 lbs to get back into pre-pregnancy shape. Before getting pregnant, I'd lost a total of 125 lbs, so I know I can do it. It's just a lot harder now, because my time and energy priorities have shifted. Looking for a community and glad to have found you!

Living in a large family that is full of nieces and nephews has given me the idea to work toward losing weight by eating better and exercising so I can be a good example to the youngsters.

Hi, Dessa here. 45 yr old wife & mom. I joined Spark about a month ago because I needed a place to log food. I stay because of the community. Fellow sparkers are the most positive, encouraging, joyful people I have ever seen. It inspires me to do more, so thank you all.

Been with SP for many years but have only gotten serious about it. I am currently in my 6th month of Intermittent Fasting (IF). I have had better success with this than anything else with the exception of military boot camp. I have dropped 32 pounds so far and am working towards my next 30 pounds. My family has recently joined the IF lifestyle and they are seeing results as well. I like SP because I can track my good days and my bad. This is the 3rd group I have joined but I seem to like this the best because we are all trying to do this together and not compete against other groups for points and I like that. Stay the path and get results folks.

Hello ! I am new here, joined Sparkpeople a long time ago but got too busy to really use it, hoping to change that this time and actually lose the weight I need to. 43 years old, pretty active, 20,000+ steps a day, but that's not quite enough for me to lose weight :(, been trying since Feb. Currently a substitute teacher after retiring from the USAF, and have 2 kids of mine own who join way too many activities, so we are busy ! Hoping for luck staying focused and using Sparkpeople regularly so I can lose this weight this time !

Hi, I am 43 birthday was less than a month ago. I have an autoimmune disrorder that causes a lot of issues and pain. Medications I am on are causing rapid weight gain. I have decided it is time to take control and lose weight and become healthy again. I can be so unmotivated from the pain and the way the medications make me feel but I need to do this for me. My husband works over 80 hrs a week so I am on my own most of the time no friends in the area as we moved 4 yrs ago I just want to live a healthier lifestyle and take care of me. We do have children 18 21 and 24 but they are not home a lot. I am a nurse but had to leave my job due to the pain and inability for now. I promote nutritional supplements on the side for a great company who has allowed me not to feel so crappy for not being able to go out to work and as an added bonus my energy levels have improved and I am filling in my nutritional gaps which is helping me stay on track with food. I love my life I just want to improve myself even more!!!

Hi y'all. New to team but not SP. Been a member of 40 Somethings w/50-99# to Lose for while. But now I am 45# to my goal! Woohoo!!!! My name is Karen aka Kitten in (my) biker world. I'll be 44 this year, not getting any younger, so I gotta get myself in shape to watch my 5 grandbabies grow up. I'm currently surviving Bladder Cancer - had a second tumor removed a few months ago. Luckily no chemo, yet. I like to ride (motorcycle) any chance I get. Thankful for FL year round riding season. I also LOVE to fish. Now if I could just find a job that would pay me to do both LOL. I get paid to play with computers now, which isn't too bad. But it surely did not help my waistline, sitting at a desk 10-14 hrs a day. #LifeOfIT Anywho, I'm here and I'm gonna hit my goal this time. Looking forward to working with the Team.

Hi, My name is Wendy and I'm 42. I'm starting on the new Healthier Me in 2019. I'm not on a diet, I'm choosing a healthier daily meal plan. I've been staying away from any/all processed foods and sticking to as many fruits and vegetables as possible. I also have been steering clear of beef and pork and going with fish and chicken. So far, so good emoticon

I look forward to this new turn about in my life. My goal in the end is to change my families way of thinking on the all natural meal plan I've started. It all starts at your own dinner table right?!

I hope you all have a great day! Happy Sparking! emoticon

Hello all, my name is Cathy and I'm about to turn 47. I am returning to Spark People after many years. I'm looking to loose 25-31lbs. I'm 5'10" and 211lbs. I've gone thru a lot of changes this past year. I've been traveling for the better part of the year, sold and bought a new home, gotten the last kid off to college and have just got to where I can start to settle and get into some sort of a routine. We've stopped unpacking to enjoy family for the holidays. I'm completely retired and trying to adjust to that. Don't get me wrong...I love it but I just really need to get that routine going. Looking forward to interacting with all of you. Looking forward to the journey!

I have been a member of SparkPeople for a while but just now looking at the forums. I want to lose right at 45-50 pounds. I'm currently 173 and I need to be 120ish. I haven't been serious about losing weight. I am tired all the time and I know it's because of all this weight. I've had a full hysterectomy and have difficulty losing weight. I've almost given up and accepted the weight. I've started exercising and I've seen a couple of inches lost but no weight. Encouraging but discouraging...does that make sense? I also see so many people at church losing 10+ pounds per month on a prohibitively-expensive program (not sure I can name them here) and it is depressing because I want that kind of success but cannot pay that much for that program. The people are in my age group so I feel like I would be successful at it but cannot pay $300+ per month for the food.

Anyway, good luck to all of you. I am thankful that I found this group of like-minded people! I hope to be encouraged by your success and hope to also be a cheerleader for you!

Hi Jen and welcome to the team!

Carrying on traditions is a great way to incorporate family members into the holiday. My mom is incorporated every year with a special dish I make or something special I do.

It's not about how bad you want it...it's about how hard you're willing to work for it

HI there. I am Jennylynn but Jen is fine, lol. I am 44 this year and am trying to shed the last of my weight by next November 15th, because I will be marrying my high school sweetheart :)

I have 2 grown sons from my 1st marriage. Darin just turned 25 on the 3rd and William will be 24 on January 6th. And in ever exciting news, William and his high school sweetheart are pregnant. SO I am gonna be a GRANDMA!!! Not really sure what I would like my grandchild to call me. But my grandma's actual name was Wanda but she did not like that her grandbabies were to call her by her 1st name, so we grew up calling her DeeDee.

I miss her. :'(

But I think I might take on her tradition, to honor her. I think she would be proud in heaven, to know that she lives on thru all her children and multiple granchildren.

Wow, sorry, I am not used to being up so early, let alone have 4 cups of coffee in me, lmao.

Good morning! I'm 49 (heading to 50 in May) and I have 39 lbs to lose as my first goal by my 50th birthday in May. I was on Spark People back in 2007 - and I've gained and lost a bunch since then. I was at my highest weight the summer of last year when I moved to AZ (256.6)...I'm down to 223 now, so I've made some progress, but need to make so much more! My husband and I started Paleo (low carb) in early June to help plan for the future so we don't get diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol (we each were close on all counts). Looking forward to meeting all of you and helping to support each other on our journeys!!

Hi! I am almost 46, have 40 lbs. to lose and really want to have more energy and feel stronger every day. I was always a "chubby" kid, but lost weight in middle school. I gained a lot of weight with my first 2 kids in my early 20's but by early 30's was in great shape for me. Running 1/2 marathons, weighed about 135 but with good muscle, and felt great. Had 2 pregnancies and a baby at 40 and just fell off the exercise wagon. Have tried the usual things that used to work to lose weight but find it is harder now. Sooo..thought I would try something different so here I am on Spark People. Hope it helps!

Wow Mary! Thats a lot of challenges...Stay strong and just keep at it. I would look into possible food allergies that may be contributing to so much inflammation and pain in the body. Doctors just prescribe things to help with symptoms not really fix anything. Also look into herbs that can help with kidneys. You may already know this so if so, sorry.. I also drink alkalized water which has helped a lot with my gastro-intestinal issues.

Hi! I am back to this page after a good many years. Now I belong to the 40 somethings not 30 somethings anymore. :-) My kids are now a bit older and my job less demanding, so I am finally trying to find some time to get me back on track with exercise. I just started playing tennis once a week and I am biking as long as the weather is good. Then it is back to pilates once a week for winter. I am happy to interact with others in this forum and see if I finally manage to stay focused enough to get back to a more healthy weight.

Hi everyone, I m Sharon .I have been off SP for awhile but I m back. I have had some discuragements in my life recently, but they are not too terrible. I just really need to get myself back to exercising. I started my couch to 5k app yesterday. I was able to start where I left off even though I was suppose to start all over again. The program would not go back to the beginning . Luckily I was able to jump back in the middle. I m looking forward to supporting others through their exercise and health goals.

Hey all! I'm Sandi - been on Spark people for a really long time, but did get away from it for quite a bit. Initially I lost 60 lbs in 3 years and kept it off, then I had knee surgery and an imploding marriage that threw me for a complete loop and I gained 25-30lbs back...while I'm happy that wasn't 60 or more lbs back, I'm determined to get healthier again. My whole story is on my page...but the long and short of it is that I had a great life, then went through the most horrible days of my life, and now I'm finally at a really great place - all is right with my soul and life is happy. I have 3 kiddos that keep me busy - ok, the 10 year old and our baseball love keeps me busy - my 16 year old is chill and he works all day now that it's summer and my 19 year old is also working while shes home for the summer from college. I share custody so every other week (5-6 days of the week) I'm on my own and, up until about 8 months ago, I never understood how anyone could be genuinely happy being alone - I get it now. I'm alone, but I'm not lonely - I get bored sometimes, but I'm not lonely. Tried the dating thing and, at this point, it hasn't worked out and that's a lot on me - I like being around people and having fun, but I'm not ready to share my entire life with someone again yet...also, I've learned, a lot of people who think they are ready to date aren't. They don't want to be alone and are looking to fill a void - most aren't even happy with themselves yet...I understand the process, I'm just not prepared to walk someone through that. Call me selfish but I think it's more selfish that I half heartedly participate in a relationship someone else is taking serious...oh - another thing about me - I ramble and share too much - moving on...

Turning 40 and then 41 really did have an impact on how my body does things, but I've been learning the changes and I'll get through it! Now I'm getting my head back in the game. Working on my food and honing that in to feed myself what I need for energy but still enjoy eating...I'm also taking myself back to the gym. I Zumba'd for many years before my knee surgery and I absolutely LOVED it - I'm getting back to it. I still love it! I know I need to add in weight and strength training and I'll work on that, but I'm terrified of hurting my knee or back again - worked with a personal trainer for a bit and ended up injuring my knee again, have no clue what damage I'd do on my own! At any rate, small steps add up to large ones and I'm on my way!

I love SparkPeople - worked before and is helping me again! Can't wait to see where this journey takes me!

Make it a great day! Sandi

Hello - my name is Kathryn, and this is my second go at Spark People I took a brief hiatus to check out the Weight Watchers freestyle program - lost 11 pounds, then life got in the way and I gained it all back. Ultimately I don't like how Weight Watchers treats all carbs and healthy fats like they're evil - I struggle with labeling foods "good" and "bad" enough as it is, and need more balance in my approach to weight loss. I especially like the nutritional information SP provides.

My struggles are a slowing metabolism, shifting hormones, business travel, and craft beer. I'm pretty consistent with my exercise, because I have fibromyalgia and workouts help manage my condition, so it's all about what I eat and drink, really. I need to lose another 38 pounds to reach what I would personally consider a reasonable weight (though it's above the "healthy range" for my height). I ultimately want to feel better in my own skin, get some of my blood work numbers to look a little better, and be able to run faster!

Day 2

So I have lost a few pounds in 2 days without eating cho cake. Probably just my body going into shock....I am sure it will slow down.

I want everyone to know I appreciate this site and being welcomed so warmly. I actually does help knowing there are others in this and not just me, way out here in the middle of nowhere.

Thank you Spark Team for welcoming me...Its kind of weird of me to begin on a Friday! Im an over 40 wife, mother, and grandma that has been battling yoyo weight since some of my health problems started at the age of 30. I am sick of the up and down weight and try desperately to be healthy. I am the heaviest I have ever been in my life at 191.8 lbs and a BMI of 31. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder called Ankylosing Spondylitis which causes chronic pain and requires steroids at times, and I recently injured my right shoulder and had surgery, so exercise is limited, but I am hoping I can be successful with your motivation, tools and suggestions, Go ME!

I'm new to these forums. Have been a member of Sparkpeople for a while. I want to lose about 40 pounds, stop my soda and sugar addiction. I'm trying to get my husband to do it with me but he thinks you have to eat between 1500 -2000 calories a day when you exercise 30 minutes to an hour a day; is that right?

Hi :-) I just joined 3 days ago, and I am super excited to make this work. I know that I can, I know that I will be my worst critic, but I am determined and happy to be here at all. I need to lose a lot of weight, and it will not be an overnight process. Honestly, I am 193 now, so it really wouldn't hurt me to lost at least 50 lbs. But, I am starting off with a goal of losing 30 and I am going to be setting my sights on that. I have 3 boys at home and a loving supportive husband, who is keeping up with sparkpeople as well. Good luck today for all and I hope you overcome your personal challenges!!

I recently joined this site and today is my Day 1! I am a mom to 3 year old twins and am just now focusing on me and my own health. Very excited to get started.
Trying to lose 25 pounds but focusing more on how I feel. Would love more energy to keep up with these kiddos.

Hello, Im Kari, 43 and for now have 25 lbs to lose. Ultimately Id like to get to 130, but I dont want to set myself up for failure. I currently have a fractured rib from being really ill, so I have difficulty working out, so until it heals my main focus is on food.

Hi all.

I hope all is well. I am doing okay. I can do so much better. A little bit about me. Forgive me, this may get a little long. I'll give you a condensed version of me. I join in April, but haven't been active. I forgot about Spark People, actually. I hope to do much better in the future, hehe.

I am 45 years old and I live in beautiful Northern Minnesota. I've been over weight all of my life. Personally, I am sick of it. I am looking for a change. I know the change comes from within you, but with guidance, anyone can do great things.

In 2004, I was in a car accident. The emergency doctor told me I would never walk again. My leg was broke. My ankle was crushed, almost severed. I took his words as a challenge. I said, oh yeah, watch me. Five agonizing months later, I was walking and driving a car. In 2005, I was diagnosed with type II diabetes. My A1C was, at the highest, 9.3. I just got it checked, I am happy to report, my A1C is now a 6.4. That is a constant challenge. In 2008, I started getting kidney stones. The biggest was 3cm. I had more then 25 surgeries on my kidney's alone. That was from 2008 through 2014. The last stone I had in 2014 was 2.8cm. I haven't had one since, I am now stage 3 kidney failure.

This new development is what I am having problems with. Doctors tell me to do this, and do that. I want to live and not be defined by a potential problem. Being over weight, I am in constant pain. Not only do my kidney's hurt all the time, but my back, legs, feet. I had a cyst in the back of my knee erupt recently. It's called a Baker's cyst. Oh man, that hurts. Exercising is hard for me to do.

My heaviest is 308. I am at 289. Yay me. It was not easy. I can do so much more. I get discouraged and give up. This is where I am now. I am hoping to get new ideas and new inspirations. I need to find me again. I love who I am. I just don't like my outward appearance. It's time to change.

Love and peace,
Mary

New here. Word is Atkins might be partnering with Spark since the Atkins website/forum has had a few hiccups the last year or so. Anyway, I'll be posting there and here.

Context - 44. 5'8", diet model around Atkins 20, Phase 2/3, NC 70 - 75, though I do not track food/portions/etc. Started Atkins/HFLC/Keto 6/26/15 at 280 lbs, 1 year anni 6/26/16 191, 2 year anni 6/26/17 190, today 197. Lift weights 4x/week no cardio, been sporadic the last month due to vacation, family constraints (Cubs - pinewood derby, sports, homework projects) and work.

2-week short-term goal: 3 lbs to 194. 1 month goal (4 week) 5 lbs to 192. By 12/15 189-190.

Longer-term goal: 175, shooting for revised workout routine (4 day lift/2 day cardio, thus lift/cardio/lift/cardio/etc). Been reading about belly fat and core exercises don't help much; it's all about the diet and cardio. So...ramping up cardio, getting back to basics

Happy Tuesday! I joined ( well rejoined - had been on here a long time ago with some success, but slipped and regained it all back) yesterday, little by little I'm going to do this. Right now trying to cut back my portion sizes ( I don't eat that terribly, but way too much at a time), trying to add in some exercise (after hitting the treadmill yesterday for the first time in a few years I'm clearly out of shape! ) and making checking in on here a priority to keep myself on task!
Looking forward to meeting some new people and going through this journey together!

Hi all!

I'm Mad, I'm 40 and have regained 30 pounds after I quit smoking. It's been a bummer because I was super fit last year (as I never had been in my life) and quiting the cigarrete, plus life, took me down this hill.

Now everything looks so steep and so hard.

But I'm trying, one day at a time.

Really need some friends to keep me motivated and to motivate too!

Guess who's back. Back again. Skye is back. Tell a friend.

Lol.

Been a loooong time, but I'm back to get some support for the diet/eating side of things. Rather than shelling out $150/month for some nutrition coaching (which I'm sure is worth it but, ouch! Lol). Hopefully I have enough discipline and motivation that this will be enough to keep me going.

Brief about me? 5'6", 46 yo, just hitting menopause (you SUCK hot flashes lol), gained a bunch of weight after a bout of Mexico flu back in January that just never went away. On and off back and shoulder issues hindering my weight training. Also Achilles' tendinitis likes to flare up once in a while. Still doing it anyway--wonderful trainer who's good at working around stuff.

Thank God for yoga pants! Stretch is life. :D

Nice to 'meet' you all! Hope to have time to poke around the forums and teams (are there teams?) a bit later tonight or tomorrow morning.

Wish me luck!

P.S. Oh and I have FIVE cats. Cuz crazy cat lady. :D Join me, cat people! ^..^

Hi!! I joined sp a few years back and never did anything with it. I was in the gym regularly and always trying to lose that "last 10 lbs"

In the two years since then, I gained 35 lbs. I don't feel like myself anymore and need to find my balance again. I'm 48 and headed to the time in life when it will be so much harder to make changes.

I joined daily burn with a friend but have been doing it alone so far... :-/

I would love to lose 20 before heading to Costa Rica in November.

Welcome back Holly!

I, too, just came back to Spark. I joined about 10 years ago, failed and gave up. Then I joined again 6 years ago and did amazingly well - lost 49 pounds! I was feeling great! Then I had a major surgery, lost my job, and spiraled into depression and frustration. Needless to say I've gained all 49 back and am in the worst shape of my life. So here I am!

I've just quit my job that was making me so depressed. It's only been 4 weeks and I'm finally starting to feel relaxed again. It was tough going in every day. I'm looking forward to when I can talk about it and not feel myself get knotted up inside.

I'm going to take some time to heal. And part of healing is getting healthy again. So I'm back and I'm ready to try my best to succeed.

I just started back with SparkPeople thIs week, but first joined about 10 years ago. I'm pretty sure I have 10-20 more pounds to lose now compared to then, but I don't even want to think about that.... I have two teenagers, both freshmen, one in high school and the other in college, so having one gone (he's an 8-hour drive away) has been a little rough.

My husband and I have decided to train for a sprint triathlon in August, so we have almost a year to train. We did one twelve years ago, but my husband's bike broke down and he never finished, so he's been wanting to try one again, but it just never happened. We have a friend who did the triathlon this year and last, and seeing him at a barbeque the day of this last one with his grease pencil race numbers was just the inspiration we needed. My husband and I both agree that having something to train for makes a huge difference to us when choosing to exercise.

I'm tired of being this heavy and I'm excited to lose this extra weight and get fitter and stronger as I train.

Found Spark today while doing an online search for exercises. I have tried so many different programs in the past 10 years and nothing ever sticks. I did WW last year and dropped 30 pounds in 5 months but then couldn't afford the meetings and stopped going. I tried Herbalife shakes but that got expensive, too. Then the holidays hit and longer hours at my job. I was working 80 hours a week and eating whatever I could manage between the triple shifts. I finally had enough and changed jobs. Been at my new job for a month now but it is a desk job where before I was constantly moving.

I recently tried the PIYO plan but their food was not working for me nor was I able to follow the DVD's. Hard trying to watch the screen and do Pilates / Yoga correctly. Then it was the Ideal Shakes which I do like for breakfast. Good flavor and easy to mix.

Just really need the motivation especially with the colder weather coming and all the parties. Nice to meet all of you!

Transitioned from the 100+ pounds to lose group. Just hit my forties. Seven years ago I had what I thought was my last child and a few months later I stopped paying attention to me till I was told that if I didn't get in gear that worse was going to happen to me. I got in gear and was doing great! Then I found that I was pregnant with my daughter. everything that I had worked so hard for was stripped of me. I was told that I was not eating enough and that I had to eat more carbs. Do you know how HARD it is to go from a minimum of carbs to being told that you HAVE to eat over 100 carbs? Its even worse trying to cut it all back down.
So just like a bunch of you I haven't been on Spark in years. Here's hoping that I can get back in the swing of things.

Hi there!
I am a returner, like Laila. It's been about 5 years, I believe. I am now 45, and weigh 5 lbs more than I did when I walked in to the hospital to give birth to my 7 year old. Ugh. Something needs to change!
I have promised myself not to get obsessed with numbers and calories for now. Just make those changes. Small steps. This week, I am not using the food tracker, but I AM being more conscientious about what I am putting in my mouth. I bought some hard candy (Werthers) to suck on an quench the sweets craving instead of getting a candy bar from the vending machine. I am only allowed 1 diet soda a day for now. And today, I walked 2.5 miles and burned over 300 calories. No big inclines, not running a marathon, but slow and steady wins the race, right? I can't even remember when the last time was that I actually exercised on purpose. So, it's a start and I am proud of myself for finally starting.

Hi everyone!

I'm new to the team but not new to SP - was active in 2013-2014. I see that many are in the same boat reading a few of the entries. I feel like I am finally ready to take my health and fitness seriously, and am finally beginning to deal with my emotional eating issues, which have plagued me my whole life. I just turned 40 this year and it's been a real reckoning for me in many ways! I don't want to continue to abuse food to deal with uncomfortable emotions any more. I want to feel free and energetic and unafraid to try new things. part of that is realizing that I feel better overall when I am fitter and weigh less. So here I am!

Hi y'all. New to the team but of course not to SP. I've been around for a while (since 2012).
I'm a member of 40 somethings with 50-99 pounds to lose for the last cpl years. And I am happy to say I'm only 37# from my goal so I decided to join this team as well. SP has been so valuable to me on this journey. Good luck to you all.

I think instead of creating a new thread, I will just reply to this existing thread.

I previously lost over 100 lbs. ( I weighed in at 309) At one point, I was down to 198. For what ever reason, I am just gaining weight like there is no tomorrow. I am not sure why I feel the need to devour food like I am starving, but I am going to drop these 30 lbs and get back to the weight I was at.

Wow, it must be the age range we have in common, but do you guys see the similarities in all of our posts?? Here we are again, determined that this time we will stick with it. YES! We can! I have been on SP for 8 years off and on, sometimes with great success, and other times not so much. Looking forward to some support and interaction!

Hello All!
Ive been on this site, off and on, for almost a decade. Took the past 3 years off basically, as I was fed up with my life and I went through a divorce in 2015. Lost 200# of dead weight ha! Sounds like alot of of my Fab Forties ladies have a similar story to tell. Unhappy marriage forever, kids, depression, fighting the losing battle. Well no more! So much happier being divorced, and finally really enjoying being my real genuine self for the first time in my life. Have a great boyfriend who doesnt give a rats ass about my size, just as long as Im not skinny, because he is very lean, and well no body fat on either side can lead to uncomfortable bruising lol.

I restarted earlier this month because I was sick of feeling low energy, out of shape and just unhealthy. I snore and have hbp, hopefully a lifestyle change can help with those too! Joined this team because, yall are my peers and get it, and I really dont have outrageous WL goals, 30-50 pounds lighter would be fine, and honestly, getting it toned up would probably make a world of difference, so its no longer about a number. Im doing no sugar, low carb high fat. Walking for exercise, planning to start doing weight training soon.

Already feeling 100% better by changing my diet, I was addicted to sugar. It was making me really sick. Im learning that my body burns healthy fats way better than refined carbs, so my lazy ways of having cheese and crackers for dinner, or a bagel, or bread-no. Im not nuts, Ive had small portions here an there but have not had more than a half dozen servings of 'bread' in a month.

Hi All,
So I came back to Spark People yesterday. I was here a number of years ago and did really well. In true yo-yo, rollercoaster, whatever you would like to call it, fashion, I'm back to where I was when I started back then. Reading through a lot of the posts in here, it seems like a pretty familiar theme. I think we're all wondering, "How did I get back here? Why did I let this happen?" I guess now it's time to let all of that go and refocus. Small steps to get back on track and hopefully a group of people here helping me stay on that track. If your home life is anything like mine, it can be a little crazy and I am the glue holding together. Ever feel like you're taking care of every body else's needs and then are too exhausted to take care of your own? I'm sure there are more than a few of you that can understand that feeling. So...here I (we?) go...time to take care of me.

I have decided to join as I have put everyone ahead of me for so long. I finally need to make myself a priority in life. I finally need to spend time on myself to improve myself. No more excuses as to why I cannot do this.

Hi everyone,

I've been lurking on this SparkTeam for some time now. I just got some news about my cholesterol and that has really spurred me to take action on my health as I need to get my cholesterol back to normal and work to lose this weight once and for all. I've had a rough first half of the year as I fell down my stairs at home. But I'm all better now and I don't have any excuses anymore.

Hello all, my name is Sheila and I have joined on and off for several years. I'm finally ready to make a commitment to health and weight loss. It's hard to get started and I hate exercise but I've got my mind made up this time! And I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I find a different exercise routine everyday to mix things up and I'm having fun with it. Waiting for the pounds to start melting away....

I rejoined yesterday after being away for 9 years. It's been a crazy time full of having my 4th kid (now 3), an unhappy marriage, depression, owning a salon, now divorcing, etc. I'll be 41 this year and have a minimum of 35lbs to lose. My thoughts tell me I'm sick enough of this body to change, but I just can't seem to make it all happen. I'm hoping this time around I'm able to find the motivation and stick-to-it attitude I need to succeed.

I just joined the team. I am looking to lose about 45 lbs. I lost two pounds the first week but I can already see the scale slowing down. I'm trying to stay positive and focused and not get to frustrated. Slow and steady wins the race.

Coming back after along break. I'm hoping to gain back more focus and I've always found this a great site for having supportive members. I've been training for the last 5 years and have recently finished a bulking phase which I'm struggling to pull out of. My goal is to gain more muscle, which isn't easy to do when in a calorie deficit for too long. Easy to fall back into bad habits though... time to pull up my socks:)
