The last few pounds are always the hardest. I think it's because we've had them so long they're like family.

My results are 'normal' but that is because I eat so religiously low carb...I never eat any carb on its own, always eat protein with carbs. I am hoping I can eventually eat more than 40 grams of carb a day... but so far it is not looking too hopeful.

Maria....what were the test results? Also, if your system is sensitive to sugars, I would recommend not eating fruit or any carb without protein accompanying it. That is what I do and I can have fruit now-within reason only if I have protein of some sort with it.

i get fasting blood sugar tests every 3 months...

The carbs added were fruit and extra nuts... healthy but my system is very carb sensitive. The sugar in fruit can raise my blood sugar levels.

I have been extra hungry the past three days. Perhaps something I inadvertently ate has set off my insulin/hunger response. Perhaps i am just self sabotaging as I approach goal. Maybe my body has a different idea of my ideal weight. It seems that over the last 5 years getting and/or staying below 145 is always a struggle.

Either way my attempt to increase carbs and calories to pre maintenance levels has not worked. Back to basics for a few days.

Good morning all. I thought I'd add something to this thread that I just went through.

I have hypoglycemia. Actually insulant resistance to the muscles. Makes training for a 1/2 marathon really interesting.

I am eating incredibly healthy by anyones standards. My blood glucose is rock steady at 98 because of this. I can't do anything to tweek my diet anymore.

However I have problems with energy levels and with the "on demand" demands I make on my body for other normal and above normal situations. I did add lots of exercise. The cure for IR in muscles IS exercise.

I did 25,000 steps the other day and felt fantastic. Until the next day when I got on the scales--yesterday! I gained over a lb. LOL Not happy!

I had exausted myself and didn't realize it until last night. I slept 10 hours and feel better. And, I lost weight overnight. LOL

The closer to our goal weight, the more "little" things can effect it.

So, those last lbs are stinkers. They will test us. Let's be strong enough to go to the goal line. Keep up the lifestyle towards health & fitness.

Hi Pam! You're doing great--it's a long journey. Coach Dean has a wonderful article, which I found on the team leader's page--and promptly lost--about the various physical realities of the last pounds. It gets harder as we get down to our normal weight--so I'm glad we're there, and we'll stick it till we get all the way!

For me, I am at 150 pounds. According to all the various charts my healthy weight range is 111-150. My "happy weight" calculated on Self.com website "148.5
So I'm basically there.

But whatever I do, it has to be what I can live with for the rest of my life. I will continue enjoying my food with moderation.

For me, it's now about getting my mid section and arms toned. Those are the areas where I want to get rid of the "jiggle."

How to Take Off Those Last 10 Pounds
You know what I like to call those last 10 or 15 pounds that won't come off no matter what you do? Vanity pounds.

The term describes our desire to lose weight that, as far as our bodies are concerned, actually feels healthy. Today's society pressures us to want to look a certain way, so for aesthetic reasons we try to be thinner than our bodies want us to be. Personally, I have gained and lost the same 8 vanity pounds more times than I care to admit.

Losing your first 50 pounds might have been tough, but believe me, dropping those final few stubborn pounds is a whole different challenge. The body struggles to hold on to that last bit of fat for survival purposes.

Now, don't get me wrong — you can lose the weight if you want to, but it will require you to muster a tremendous amount of restraint and willpower. If you're really up for it, do the following for 30 days:

1. Cut your sodium to 1,000 mg a day.
2. Drink at least 80 ounces of water daily.
3. Cut out processed foods.
4. Abstain from alcohol.
5. Train at 85 percent of your MHR (maximum heart rate) for 1 hour 5 times a week.

You can do a lot in 30 days — in fact, I can pretty much guarantee you will lose at least 5 pounds. And you'll feel like a rock star!

I have struggled too, with these last pounds, but I have recently realized the "secret", at least for me.
I want to weigh 130, and that means having to go back to counting calories, and limiting my calories to 1300. I now weigh 140 (today is 137), and now i realize that i probably have been closer to 1400 average per day....and not loosing that last 10. If I concentrate on 1200 to 1300, the pounds are, at last, moving downward. Part of the extra 100-200 a day, I realize now has been in my meat portions, getting a little bigger than they should. A small adjustment, but it seems to be working.
I have been more attentive to those dang calories!!! My diet is still meat, fruit, and vegs...trying to stay away from flour and sugar.
I knew that i was putting in more than enough exercise time to allow for my more slurges during the weekend, but when you are down to those last few pounds, and keeping them off, you just have to figure out what is the problem....and it keeps changing!

Welcome Pam! I think it is especially nice that even Jenny Craig is recommending using sparkpeople. There are a lot of us in the same boat with you. I have lost and gained the same 3-4 pounds over and over. It can be frustrating. Hang in there with us. We'll make it together!

Hi Pam, I am there with you. those last few pounds are the hardest to get off. The less you weigh the harder you have to work to burn the same amount of calories. So as your weight is going down it takes less calories to fuel your body. This makes it additionally hard. Hang in there, use the fitness and nutritition trackers. They can be the biggest help

Welcome Grene to the team and to SparkPeople.

I am not certain what to say while one is on a specific program like Jenny Craig. Problem to me would be when you start making food for yourself.

That aside SparkPeople is a wonderful site. Stick with us and well wishes.

I was premenopausal when I started my weight loss. In order to make it work for me I had to give up chocolate and significantly reduce my sugar intake. I have started the Couch to 5K Challenge to try and boost up my exercise routine. I am maintaining now, but it really takes a lot of concentration on my part. I wouldn't have it any other way! You just have to find what works for you.

Hi Pam, I live in Salem, Oregon, am 58 and have reached my goal (wedding) weight twice but begin sabotaging myself soon after. I want to be naturally at goal weight without any more effort on my part like people who have never had a weight problem (wishful thinking). I've remained in a healthy range after losing 20 pounds about 10 years ago but my goal of staying in my ideal range eludes me. I exercise regularly by making my office into a gym and walk or dance for fun. I overeat to distract myself when I'm stressed and start taking it off again to stay in my clothes altho some I can't wear again yet. I'm still very healthy but less committed than what I like. Thanks for sharing and reading this. Good luck to you.

Hi, I am Pam from the beach..........I lost 15 "menopausal" pounds last year and have kept it off for over a year, BUT still want to get down 5 pounds more to be at my premenopausal weight...don't know if it is possible but I am trying. I lost the 15 on Jenny Craig, still going there but they suggessted using spark people as an aid......

I am very active, exercise 5 hours+ a week and have an active job, you wouldn't think it would be so difficult but it is!! Anyone else struggle to lose even 1 of those last pounds despite tons of exercise??
