Hi and welcome Jane. I am so sorry for your loss. What a great way to keep a connection to your dad! I'm still new to riding too but loving every bit of it. Ride safe and enjoy!

Thanks so much for all the support! I'm super stoked to report that I found some mountain bikes too, so while I'm getting used to the crazy road bikes I can fall back on something more familiar! It's going to be super important I think for staying motivated to maybe switch it up from time to time. I'm excited!

Jane,

I'm sorry for your loss, but I commend you for taking something positive out of your sorrow. I hope that you will have a sense of riding with your Dad while you're out on the road and that you find peace, joy and freedom.

Jane I am sorry for your loss. I think you will take to that bike seat like a fish in water, riding is so free and full of excitment. I know for me when I am on my bike, I feel that way latley I have been making it a challenge to see how fast I can go and how far I can go the bummer is when I have to turn around and head home..LOL any ways good luck to you, I think you will do fine on the bikes

Anita

What a story your own personal motivation is! Thanks for sharing a part of yourself so freely too. I never rode a bike since I was a kid until at the age of 54. Now three years later I am addicted to riding. I have had some accidents too. But it is well worth the rides.
I only rode three miles the first time I rode.

Happy Pedaling!
Sandy

Wow. So sorry for you loss, but I love the way you are motivated by it. I hope you find a part of the enjoyment from riding that your dad apparently did.

Hey guys!

So background. I am not a cycler. Before today I hadn't ridden a bicycle since like...2001 probably (not counting exercise bikes). My dad though, he was the cycler in the family. Every day from March until October he'd ride like a zillion miles, and every year he'd try to beat his mileage from the year before, peaking at over 8000 one year. He'd also get in a million accidents and break a million bones, but that's another story.

So he died this month after being sick for a really long time. The kind of sick where he didn't tell my sister or I, so it was really sudden and terrible.

Now I'm completely out of shape, and have been trying to be motivated for losing weight for months and months and I sort of feel like this is the kick in the pants I needed. I've inherited all these crazy road bikes, and it's summer time. So I bought a helmet and took one for a test. It's got crazy handlebars to what I'm used to, and I'm pretty shaky, but I'm going to see how many miles I can ride this year.

So I guess that's my introduction. Hi, I'm Jane, and I'm terrified but excited!
