Hi all, I just came back to SparkPeople after several years, and just joined this team. My sister just diagnosed last Oct with a stage 3 cancer after having a hysterectomy. She has done 3 Chemo treatment 3 weeks apart, just finished 25 radiation treatments this last week, and in 2 weeks starts the chemo all over again. She tries to be positive but luckily feels able to talk to me when she is down. I do feel positive she can beat this, but is nice having you guys here for support.

I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I am a retired teacher, and I was diagnosed with breast cancer in August/September 2019. I went to the doctor for a regular check-up, and was sent for all the standard battery of tests, one of which was a mammogram. The technician saw something she didn't like, so the end result was a second appointment for an ultrasound, then a biopsy, the confirmation of Stage 1, Grade 3 breast cancer. Too small to detect by sight or touch, but there nonetheless.
I have had a relatively easy path - surgery to remove the lump, then radiation, which I have just finished. I will be taking Tamoxifen for the next five years.
I'm tired from the radiation, but so grateful that it wasn't worse. I feel that I've been given a second chance at life, and I want to live it in a healthy body.

Achieving a healthy weight is not a sprint, but a marathon.

I'm Bobbie from N. Texas about 10 miles south of the Big Red (we call it) it's the Red River that flows between OK and TX. I'm fifth-generation Texan on my maternal side as far as I could find out. I love doing genealogy.

I have a blended family of 8 grown-ups, 15 grands, and 22 great-grands. Only one of our kids lives in the same town as us (and she is our only adopted one), all the others live hours away, some in other states. My DH and I have been happily married for 39 years. We have both traveled together and separately. My dad worked in the oil fields so, as a kid, we traveled a lot. I can remember living in Wyoming and the show being taller than me. My DH was a military brat. His dad was a 30-year man in the Air Force. Togeather we have traveled with an oil field company from West Virginia to California and back to Texas. DH was born in Tennessee.

We have lived and worked in a lot of states but we have lived the longest here in north Texas for about 25 years.

Well, I guess that's enough introduction for now. We'll get to know each other better as we go along.

Happy trails y'all, Bobbie

My sister is fighting breast cancer that has metastasized. She learned she had cancer when she was finishing her first trimester and began chemo during her 2nd trimester. Her daughter is now 7 months old and this Thursday she's having a double-mastectomy. She'll be doing radiation for 5-6 weeks once she's recovered from the mastectomy. I know what I'm going through isn't at all matched with what she's going through, but it hasn't been easy for any of us.
