Yes...I went on Goodreads for a while last night and started a shelf for the books I own and haven't read. I considered making my want to read list over but I have hundreds of books there....I don't think I want to move them all. Thanks for the idea and for your helpful suggestions.

You can set up as many new shelves as you like. Might be worth considering keeping the Want to Read list for things you own, as they will go there automatically, but it would mean moving all the others across. Sounds as if that would take a long time!!

yes, thanks...I know how to set up a to read list. My problem is that I put a LOT of books on the list...books I don't own. I think it's great to do it the way you have done it....and I'm wondering if I can make a NEW list of books to be read that I own. so that the two lists side side by side...for different purposes.

Goodreads has a "To Read" list ready for you to put books on. If you search for a book you will see a tab on the right which says "Want to Read". If you click on that, it will add the book to your "To Read" shelf. Though I prefer to use my Amazon Wish List, so I can check for price reductions.

I've published two books of flash fiction so far, they are just small humorous stories, only around 50 pages long each book, so they're Kindle only. But I'm working on five full-length novels (so far). I do NaNoWriMo each year, so I end up with yet another first draft. I'm working on editing my very first manuscript at the moment, which is quite heavy going as I wrote most of it before I did all those courses on the technical side of writing. I'm hoping that subsequent ones will need less and less editing as I gained knowledge. These are all Regency Romances (with some other stuff included, because after all, we need more of a plot than that). I also beta read for a couple of real life authors in the genre.

Think not. Do.

If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got.

oh neat! Have you published before? How many and what genre?
I published a book in 2014 ...I think it is in its last year of circulation.

I think it's a great idea to make a list of what you have and want to read! I'm always forgetting what I have on the kindle. Does Goodreads have the capacity to make lists? Like a playlist for books!

Yes, I'm on Goodreads. My "Want to read" list is actually what I've acquired and am waiting to get around to. Mostly Regency, and I am in the throes of writing several, too.

I like firstly, Christian non-fiction. I read some fiction but am a bit picky about it. I like biographies also .
Do you belong to GoodReads? My "TBR" list there is daunting. I don't own all of those ....yet.

Hi Cynthia, what kind of books do you like?

That "long list of books to be read" sounds awfully familiar. I also have a wish list on Amazon, but have managed to get it down to 2 pages. But that has just made my TBR shelf on my Kindle even longer.

Think not. Do.

hi my name is Cynthia and I own a Kindle Fire 8 (not the HD sadly) and the latest Paperwhite (don't know what it is called.) I also read on my Samsung Galaxy S5 phone with the Kindle APP.

I'm 54 and disabled so have a good amount of time on my hands and for some reason I spend more time wasting time online than I do in reading. I want to change that. I have lots of books on my kindles waiting to be read...I just have to do it. So that is one of my goals for 2017...to read at least an hour a day.

I am really excited about meeting some of you and talking about books. I see that this team is only quasi active and I would encourage you to make it more active. I apologize for the time that has elapsed since I first joined and was active until now. I was busy with other teams but kept intending to make my way here. So now I'm here and I plan to participate.

I have a Kindle Fire, 2 paper whites and an iPad. I only read on the paper whites. Isn't it amazing all the books one can read? Right now I am borrowing from the library Lisa Jackson books. Today is Fatal Burn----pg-13 rating though

Hi Sue, welcome to the team. You certainly lead a full life. Good thing you make time for reading.

I like Christine Feehan too, though I've not read anything from her for a while now. So many books, so little time - and I'm retired so don't even have the excuse of paid employment.

Think not. Do.

Hi, my name is Sue, I'm a 38 year old mom, wife, sister, daughter, aunt, cousin, best friend, book lover, crocheter, knitter and movie lover. I am a born again Christian but my book reading doesn't show it. I love me some murder/mystery/horror/vampires/weres/witch
es/etc. I do no like romance unless it's paranormal and my favorite lady for that is Christine Feehan.

Some of my favorite authors are Christine Feehan, Stephen King, James Patterson, Jack Kilborn, Andrew E Kaufman, among others. I love to read. I have tons and tons of books on my kindle as well as on my bookshelf.

I'm a telefundraiser, so I don't get to do as much as I want, I work 8-5 Tuesday-Friday and 9-6 on Sat. I go to church Sunday Morning and spend the rest of my day off with my family. On Monday's I crochet and read and watch The Originals or something on Netflix. I am also on the committee for our Non Denominational womans retreat. I also am a very active person on my Goodreads and addicted to pinterest as well.

I look forward to getting to know others on here and to reading and getting healthy.

Have a wonderful night

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

KDP = Kindle Direct Publishing
VAT = Value Added Tax.

VAT is normally charged on supplies within the United Kingdom. However in the case of distance selling of software (which includes in this instance books), if you sell to anyone within the UK you become liable to account for the VAT, and unlike most of the rest of VAT there is no lower limit below which you don't need to register.

Trust me, I used to be a VAT officer before I retired. We're very nice people, saddled with difficult legislation.

Think not. Do.

Interesting info. Thanks.

It seems that Smashwords no longer has a contract with Amazon. They have one with Barnes and Noble, tho.

What is KDP?
What is VAT?

Hi nice to see you here.

From the hardware point of view I understand that the Nook has the edge. However I have doubts about the platform's long-term viability. B&N have divested themselves of the hardware and seem to be in financial difficulty, whereas Amazon - do not.

As a writer I've made the decision to go with Amazon. My daughter published her own book via Smashwords and found all her sales came through Amazon, so she went with KDP in the end, and I've heard about other authors with a similar experience. Also the UK distance selling regulations mean that I might have to register for VAT no matter how small my sales with Smashwords, as they do not take care of the VAT. Amazon does.

Think not. Do.

If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got.

Hi!

I'm new to the team, but not new to SP. I figure this team would help me decide between a Kindle and a Nook. (Such strange words.)

I've also written an ebook. So I need the other end of the perspective.

Looking forward to getting acquainted with you all. :-)

Hi there, and welcome to the team. I wish I could manage to read on a treadmill - I'm worried I'll get too absorbed in the book and end up flying off the back! I've had several Kindles, mainly because I end up sitting on them, or dropping them or something. Because I have to take a Kindle everywhere with me, and tough as they are, sometimes accidents happen. I've just taken mine off to France for a fortnight, so much more practical than a suitcase full of books - I read over 30 while I was away, which would have been quite a weight.

Think not. Do.

Welcome to the team. I get a lot of books for the Kindle from the free listings, so if you want to expand your repertoire that might be a good place to start. Although the quality can be a bit variable. Which genres would you like to look at?

Probably better not. I've just been to the Discworld Conference and have been given a number of books free. Six to be precise. Now I've read them all before (though in English - Sir Terry has been giving away all his free author's copies in all languages) but they still add to the number of books lying around the house.

Hi my name is Cassie. I'm 29 years old, and I work as an admin for an airline at Denver International Airport. I've been on SP for a while now, but I've been stuck on this plateau for about a year now. I am working really hard on tracking everything again. I hit the plateau about a month after I stopped tracking so I think that is what I really need to work on. I love reading, gardening, hiking, and fishing with my husband and 7 year old son. I can't believe I didn't find this team until today!

Welcome Pat. I too am trying to reduce my TBR shelf on my Kindle. The problem is all those bumper bundles of four full-length novels I bought when they were on special offer. Most of the ones I get are on offer or free, and I've discovered some really good writers among them.

With all of this sudden time on my hands, I plan to get in more FICTION reading (the size of books and numbers of chapters you have to read in nursing school is insane) and start to focus more on my health again.

Hi everyone! I'm Alana! I'm a long time Kindle user and I just recently acquired a Paperwhite and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I'm currently (trying to) read Between Sisters by Kristin Hannah. Honestly, I don't know why I chose it. I've read a couple of her books before, and I've always been left wanting. And there is always one character that I despise even after their "transformation".

Hi there!

There are many whispers on the net that Nook will not survive. I had a beef with B&N anyway which put me off, but it's a bit worrying when you've invested in books on a particular platform and it goes down the pan. I have hundreds of DRMed MS Reader books, and only one device to read them on, and it's illegal to break the DRM coding.

Think not. Do.

Welcome!

I like my Kindle, too. I preferred it over the Nook because I had heard that a Nook has a double kind of plate. If one gets damaged, it can be hard to read.

Hi Peggy!

I'm going to be an author, when I've done editing my two mss. And my daughter has published a book via Smashwords - shameless plug for "Away With The Fairies" by Felicity Knight. Ahem! It's free!

Great to see you here. I love my Kindle. It has partly solved my storage problem, because I can't get rid of any of my books. I still have a school prize I won 53 years ago. My house is full of books, in every room except the bathroom. But the only time I get a dead tree book these days is if it's not available in e format. Or if I spot one I want in a charity shop or car boot sale or ...

Hello! I came here by accident, too. I was looking for other Kindle authors. Are there any?

I never thought I'd want an e-Reader. I liked to pass my books on if they were not ones I'd keep (like fav authors, special personal/spiritual growth books, etc.), correct the grammar in the margins or put a smiley face if something delighted me, even highlight passages at times.
My A Course in Miracles book is filled with highlights.

Hey, I have a friend here - BARRY!

Here's my author page url, but I don't know why my customer service book isn't showing. Next I am going to do a book of poetry and am considering doing my autobiography.

FYI: IT IS FREE TO PUBLISH A KINDLE BOOK ON AMAZON! I can tell you a marvelous inexpensive book that led me right through the process. www.amazon.com/Maggie-Lome/e/B00I86J

I used to read in the car on a PDA. We'd be travelling in the dark in winter, so a back light was very handy.

Yes, sounds familiar! Bookshelves in every room, double stacked etc. It's about time for us to gather up some books and donate them.

For a few years, I was riding the bus to work. Ebooks and audiobooks are great for that! Especially if you like to read huge, epic stories. My daughter has been encouraging me to read "The Way of Kings" by Brandon Sanderson. I think it's about 1200 pages!

I found this group quite by accident but am so glad I did. I'm Sue from New Jersey, semi retired Mom of 3, Grandmom of 6, recently remarried. I've always enjoyed reading books but when my husband gave me a Kindle for my birthday last year, I was hesitant. I thought I'd miss holding a book and turning the pages but was I ever wrong. I love it and now I'm reading more than ever.

Hi everyone! I'm a special ed preschool teacher from Northern CA. I've been a lifelong bookworm (starting from when I got my first library card). I am a former runner, but no longer running due to multiple injuries. I walk and use the elliptical machine now.

Often times anything and everything. Congrats on the nano win. The two that are currently up for sale
are Christian stories. Romantic Marriage stories which is a collection of stories that hopefully entertain but also give couples idea's for romantic evenings. and the other is I'm thankful for. which again is a collection of true stories showing the many - well three - places God came into my life and showed me He was there with me and others through times of trouble.

DorreenKnightT64... Thanks and best of luck to you! My Nook arrived today and I downloaded a few free books (used my Nook $5 credit that came along with my Nook purchase) and am anxious to start one! I'm almost done with the hardcover and decided not to try to finish every book on my shelf first, only numbering a few.

Greetings,
Found this team while browsing, and I'm glad I did; I can meet that goal of reading.
I love to read, but my daily exercising comes first, and then my time on SparkPeople. I live in the MidWest, so we're going into winter here--in a BIG way this week, so I should have time indoors to work on both goals--exercising and reading.
Reading has always been a lifestyle with me. Exercising, not so much. But since I'm looking to change that part of my lifestyle, it is becoming a part of my lifestyle.
Thanks for another interesting team.

Hi everyone! I just joined today (not new to SP though), and I'm awaiting my first ever e-reader in the mail. I ordered the Nook on Monday and am excited to get it! But for now, I am trying to finish the few remaining hardbacks and paperbacks on my shelf. I'm not sure which Nook book I'll be buying first.

I live in Oregon with my hubby...we are empty nesters emoticon and love it! Our one and only son is grown and been out of the house for a couple of years now.

Hello everyone, my name is Samantha, but folks call me Sam, Sami, Sunshine, or Carter.

My deep love for books started when I was young and my Mum and I would read Harlequins and such that came out cheap. A few years back I got my first Android phone and fell into the ebook world with the introduction of Kindle book lists for free and cheap books. That lead to me buying a tablet, and then finally this year a Kindle Paperwhite to cut down on eye strain. I've upgraded my phone a few times since that first Droid, I've got a Galaxy S4 now with a screen not much smaller than my Paperwhite, but the Paperwhite is still easier on the eyes, and it's the perfect size, just about the size of a thin paperback, yet it holds thousands of books.

I so adore my Paperwhite, and the fact that these book lists are always introducing me to new authors and new series. So I'm constantly finding new and amazing stuff, often free, or really low cost, and I go burning through them. My record so far is reading three full length novels in one day. But I usually go through about two books a week on average. Yeah, I know, that's a huge number of books in a year. Which brings me to the other beauty of having them as ebooks, SO much easier to move and store.

Sami

Hi Jen and Welcome. I have a Kindle, the app for my phone and Kindle for PC. Same thing for the Nook. I am thinking about giving my Nook to my daughter because I like the Kindle better.

Hello! I'm Jen. Just getting started with SP, and enjoying it so far! I love to read when I get the chance, however sometimes thats a bit hard while working full time and going to school. I can't tell you how long I've been using the iPhone Kindle app..it's been awhile! Then last year, I bought an actual kindle. Won't lie, I use the actual kindle for watching movies via Amazon Prime. But when you take your phone with your everywhere, it's convenient to have that app!
