Hi to all. My name is Sharon. I'm 39 yrs old, married 13 yrs to a wonderful guy. 2 Children ages 12 and 9. Recently unemployed - I have the summer off with my kids (that's turning a negative into a positive!). I joined spark people for help getting my family into shape. We've all made goals - I want to be foxy by the time I'm 40 (6 months away). I was within 5 pounds of my goal weight and just lost it - time to get back on the wagon. My daughter has joined the cross country team and needs to run 1.5 miles by September so we will be working on that. My son has signed up for football and because its modified football there is a weight limit and he might not be able to play because of his weight. I have until August to get him more active. Daddy? - I just want him to be healthy. I'm hoping that seeing the rest of the family playing and getting healthy that some of those will rub off on him. Looking forward to this challenge - it's not going to be easy but then again life isn't either! emoticon

Hi Team! I've been with spark over a year and thought this would be a great team for new inspiration. I've already incorporated healthy meals in our day to day lives, but I thought this team would give me some new ideas.

I have lost 55 pounds and am in maintenance. Of course I wouldn't mind losing a few more, but if that doesn't happen I'm OK with it.

Glad to be part of spark and this team.

Hi Y'all, I'm Teri. My boyfriend S and I practically live together and I would love to improve his poor eating habits as well as increase both of our activity. S survives off of Taco Bell, Carls Jr, and Dominos when he is not eating at my house, he also does not eat breakfast OR lunch. Crazy guy. We are both active duty AF with busy lives, but I am trying to make them a lot more healthy! Very excited to get going on this challenge.

I'm Mindy, I'm married to a wonderful man - Steve - and have a beautiful 4 y.o. daughter. We love to be active together. I joined this challenge as a way to help my hubby, who needs to get rid of "his pregnancy weight" from 4 years ago. LOL! We do lots of hiking, camping, walking, biking, and playing together. I just want to keep it that way and continue to set a good example for our daughter and any other children we might have. I look forward to the activities and ideas presented in the challenge! :)

I my name is Sandria I am 29 year old. I am about 140lbs overweight. I am married to a wonderful husband who is 32 years old who is about 160lbs, but he did lose 70lbs by us eating healthy and going back to work where he is on his feet all day. I am the mother to very active 6 year old who is very concerned about health, nutrition, and fitness because of his parents. He is at a healthy weight and is very active. I would like to do more as a family and be healthy one of my main reasons for wanting to lose weight.

Hi my name is Tracy and I'm the mother of 3. A 20 y.o. son, a 4 y.o son and a 3 y.o. daughter. My husband of 7 years is about 30 pounds overweight and my oldest son is also overweight. My younglings luckily are not.
I've struggled as long as I can remember with my weight. Both my parents were normal weight, but from the old school south. So, needless to say, healthy eating wasn't really a part of our lives.
My health is starting to be impacted on by weight. I think that if I can get my family on board for a healthier lifestyle the better it will be for all of us.

Hi All,

My name is tia and i'm the mother of one 7 year old rambunctious boy. I am wanting to teach my son something that was never taught to me....how to be healthy. Everyone in our family (my mother, grandmother, aunts, uncles, ect ect) is obese..i am actually the smallest out of everyone. I hope that my success on here will show my family it can be done and that it will teach my son how to take care of his body.

Hi emoticon . My name is Yolanda and I have two daughters, 5 and 8 (well in a couple of weeks). My husband and I both work full time. We are a fairly active family, but we have our moments of laziness and hanging out in front of the TV (especially in the winter). Being active in warmer months is fairly easy for us, but the gloomy, dark winter months are another story.

Hi! I'm Ardyn, and I joined this team last week. I thought I posted my intro, but it's not here. So, here I go again.

I'm 37, married to a great guy and have 2 wonderful boys. My kids are both pretty active. I have a 12 year old that thinks his skateboard is his best friend. He comes in sweaty all the time, so he's either getting exercise, or living a life of crime. My 2 year old runs laps around the living room on a daily basis, as long as Blue's Clues is on in the background. It's my husband and I that are the couch potatoes. He's a gamer, so when he's home, the Wii is on. I'm planning on using that to my advantage.

Goals for the month:
Fitness: 30 minutes of aerobics daily
30 minutes of strength training every other day.
Nutrition: Less than 1500 calories and 50 grams of fat per day.
Water: AT LEAST 64 ounces per day.

Hi! My name is Jennifer! I have one son who is 8 years old. I have let him eat unhealthy for as long as I can remember. It is how I ate and that is what I passed along to Him. It upsets me that I did that but when you are unhealthy you get into that mind frame of I am always going to be big... nothing is going to help me. I think this all comes back to the fact that both my parents are obese. My mother is insulin diabetic and my dad takes medications for diabetes. I want to stop the cycle. I want to encourage my son to make better food choices. How do I do that when all he has known is eating out? We have to do this or we are going to get bigger and bigger. I wish everyone the best of luck! We can do this!

Hi, my name is Kat and I've got 3 kids (2 boys ages 16, 11 and a daughter age 14). My husband and I have been together for 22 years and for most of those years we've lived very sedentary lives as well as eating the worst foods imaginable.
My oldest son is pretty active, he plays sports and he's always on the move, or at least he always has been but the past few years he's gotten more into the computer and it's becoming more of a chore to get him to go outside.
As for my daughter, she mimics my DH and myself when it comes to eating and activity.
My DH injured his foot at work last year and he's been told by the doctors that losing some weight will help it to heal (although it will never be the same and he'll never be able to return to his previous line of work) so together he and I have decided to overhaul our family and this challenge seems like it's perfect for us.
DH and I have already lost about 4 lbs each through diet and we're now just about to try out some different exercises that hopefully won't hurt DH's foot too much.

Hi all! I am new to SP and this challenge is my first activity here, so bear with me as I stumble my way through ;o)...
I am a married mother of four...15 yr old daughter, 7 yr old daughter, 5 yr old son, and 2 1/2 yr old son. My girls are athletic and my boys seem to have unlimited energy reserves. The problem is Dad and Mom! We are over-worked with insufficient sleep and it's starting to take a toll on us :o(. I lost 70 lbs after the birth of our last child and felt great at my healthy weight! The problem is that I've packed 15 pounds back on since last summer and I'm feeling so sluggish and lousy...
We are so busy with school and sports and anything else we can squeeze in, that our eating habits have deteriorated. I'm looking forward to getting quick, easy and healthy meal ideas and anything else I can learn to help get my family back on track!

Hi, I'm twelsh, I have three children, two daughters and a son. Our family does too much sitting around! We all want to work on that. My daughters do gymnastics three or four days per week. My son plays soccer, but when the season is over, he goes back to being a couch potato. My husband and I quit smoking three years ago, after countless attempts. The same has started with trying to be healthier. We are ready to go, then lose steam. I don't want our children to have bad habits, like us. I want to work together- so that we can support eachother. Thats why we've joined this challenge. Let's go GRIZWALDS!!! emoticon

Hi everyone,

I'm Sherry and I have three children, 14 yo girl, 11 yo boy, and 10 yo girl.

My 14 yo is severely overweight and has just joined Spark Teens. She walks every single day, anywhere between 1-3 miles and has for the past 6 months. Other than that she is pretty inactive. She is open to trying new foods and becoming more active.

My 11 yo son is mildly overweight. He's a t.v. and video game junkie. His father and I have to force him to go and ride his bike and go for walks with us. He eats and eats and eats! He hates all veggies and most fruits. He wants to cover everything in ketchup or bbq sauce. He's starting football this summer and I hope that is what he needs to finally lose his gut!

My 10 yo daughter is a healthy weight. She is a grazer. She eats throughout the day. She is more active than the other two as well. She also eats a better variety of things.

I work full time and their father does as well. I work over 1/2 of my hours from home though, so I am here to cook dinner every night and to follow through with all of the challenges!

Good luck to everyone,

Sherry

Hello all! I'm Laura, a married mother to 3 kids, 2 girls and a boy. Hubby and I work full time and then some, so the kids are home alone throughout the week (they're teenagers). We do have some snacky junk food, but mostly fruits and vegies for them. They do, however, like to sit in front of the computer or play video games and or watch tv. I'm wanting them to get out and play more, get some exercise and stay fit. Husband is in fairly good shape, he's starting to get that over 50 pouch though. I'm 40 and just over 200 pounds...partly due to having 3 kids in 4 years, never got my body back in shape between kids. This is the year about me though. I will do it, I will lose weight, I will lose more than a few pounds, I will keep it off.

Hi! My name is Marci and I am married with 2 children, my son will be 11 in August and daughter is 5 1/2. All of us except my daughter are overweight. My husband and I are extremely overweight and my son is on his way. Both hubby and I are off in the summer, because we both work at schools. So we are hoping that this summer will be are jump star to getting healthy and we will have an advantage when the craziness of school starts in August.

The one thing we really need to work on is exercise. We did belong to a fitness center but our car died and we have no way to get there anymore. So we have been trying to just get out and be active. Which unfortunately is a struggle since we live in New Orleans and this week alone there has been a heat advisory and it is been 105+ degrees every day!!!

But this is our summer of "NO EXCUSES!!!" I think this challenge we be a great help to push us in the right direction!

Good luck to everyone!

Hi! I am sherre and live in NJ. I have been with sparkpeople for 3+ years and love it!

This is a great way to start my summer with my girls. I have 3 15,12,10. My 15 year old has decided to not eat meat. It has changed how I make meals for her. Still really adjusting to the change. My 10 year old seem to like 5 foods. Killing me. My 12 year old is at least flexible with her food.

I work about 11 hours a week in a doc office as a rt,cma. I draw blood do ekgs assist doc and take xrays. My real job is a mom though.

My husband is skinny and well built and has not changed since I have known him. Make me sick he never gains wt!

Sherre!

Hello everyone - I'm fairly new to Sparkpeople and thought this challenge sounds like fun. I'm married with two boys - 6 years and almost a year old. I work full-time, and my husband quit his job last year to stay home with the baby. But he now works part-time on weekends, so we don't have a lot of time together as a family.

I joined Sparkpeople because I am trying to change my diet and exercise habits so I can lose my "baby" weight. I was successful in losing about 20 pounds (of 40 I wanted to lose) before I got pregnant. So, now I have that remaining 20 from before, plus about 15 pounds of baby weight to lose to finally reach my goal weight.

I want to get healthier to have more energy and feel better about myself, but I also want my boys to grow up with healthy habits, and not have to struggle to become healthy as they get older.

I feel like exercise is really important, but it's so hard to fit into my day. I'm slowly trying to get into the habit of exercising regularly, and now I need to get my family involved too. My husband and son both love to play sports and be active outside, but it's hard to get them motivated - especially now when it's getting so hot outside during the day. I think having some set goals will help all of us get out and exercise more.

The biggest challenge I have to work on with meal times is getting my whole family to eat at the table. Although I try to get us to sit down together as much as possible, my husband prefers to eat in front of the tv, and sometimes it's hard to have to convince him to turn off the tv and eat in the kitchen. But, food-wise my family is doing ok. My husband will eat (and help make) pretty much anything, so getting him to go along with healthy meals isn't too hard. My older son learned about healthy habits in school last year, so he's interested in eating "healthy" foods. And we're starting to introduce new foods to the baby, so this is the perfect time to get him started with a healthy diet.

Whew.. that was long! :)

Time to get started!

~Jennifer

Hi, I'm Annette. I'm a SAHM to 4 kids, a 13 1/2 yr old DD a 8 yr old boy and 4 yr old twin boys.I started SP last September and slowly I've lost 14 pounds, diabetes runs in my family and that has motivated me to lose weight. My DH has lost about 25 pounds with SP so the program has worked really well for us.
My DD has been told by a Dr and wii fit that she is in danger of becoming overweight, she is my motivation for joining this team. I cant seem to get her to do exercise, I try to limit snacking but she sneaks food into her room. at meal times takes triple the food of even my husband.
My eight year old doesn't like to try new foods and has a very limited list of things he will eat(thankfully veggies are on that list).Like his sister he is not that into physical activities.
My four year olds eat everything and never stop moving so I'm not worried about them yet.
I hope this challenge is a step in the right direction we need.

Hi everyone...I am JoAnn. I am single but am raising my grandson, Noah. He is 8 months old. I am trying to get healthy now to be around for him. I have been with sparkpeople for about 3 months now and love every minute of it. I joined this challenge to start getting prepared. Noah is still on baby food and limited in what he can do with me but it will just be a challenge. We can eat around the same time and we can definately play together. I am excited to get started.

Hello! I am Renee. I am new to this team. I am a stay at home wife and mother of 2 children. My husband and I are both morbidly obese and our oldest is mildly overweight. I am always looking for some thing that will aid in helping direct our family in a healthier direction and keep us on the straight and narrow and way from a seditary and unhealthy food choices.

Hi, I'm Jenni. I'm new to the team but better late than never, right? We live in the Midwest and have three boys, who will all be turning 9, 7, and 4 next month.

We had a family meeting last night to introduce their new chore boxes and I'm excited to discuss some goals and visions for our health.

I finished my vision board yesterday and my 7 year old wanted to make one too. I don't know how goal-oriented his is but he had fun making it.

My husband and I are both morbidly obese and my oldest son is very inactive and doesn't eat anything that grows. My middle son has historically loved veggies but I'm slowly seeing him change his eating habits. I was about his age when I started packing weight on so I'm concerned about him. My youngest can't stop eating. He typically eats healthy foods but I find him eating yogurt and cheese non stop.

I lost 30 pounds and regained 40 and my husband has lost and found the same 30 pounds several times. This is the summer we are changing our lifestyle forever and I'm so happy to have found this challenge!

Jenni

Hello! I am a stay at home mom of two boys, 9 and 2. My husband has been home with us for the last year after injuring his back at work and undergoing two back surgeries since than. We are working on becoming more active together as a family since my side has a history of obesity. We want to find fun, cheap, active things to do together and I think this challenge will help us out!

I am a wife and mother of three, 2 boys 12, almost 16, and a girl 14. I got really serious when about 2 yrs. ago my husband had a hospitalization due to what they thought was diverticulitis. I wasn't but it was this event that made me really want to change, and I have. My oldest loves to workout w/me and he eats healthy, but the other three not so much. I am hoping that this summer will be the perfect time to change for all of us to lead healthier lives together.

I'm a mom of a very smart 5 year old boy, and I want to be a better example of leading a more healthy, fulfilling life. I already have him asking if things that he eats are healthy or not, but there is a lot of bad habits that I need to break in order to not pass them on to him........watching TV during dinner is one of them.

Hi team!
My name's Danielle, my husband and I and 3 of our 4 kids live in PA; our oldest graduated college last year and is out of the house now - successfully!! YAY!

Our 17 y.o. Dtr is a Junior in high school and we're deep in the college search now. She and her younger sister, 7 (and to a lesser degree, their middle brother, 11) are the reason I chose this challenge.

DD 17 has my unfortunate body type - severe pear-shape, that is, heavy legs but a narrow waistline and bust. I really think getting her moving will help her trim down and gain the confidence she'll need in the next year, her senior year in high school.

AND - DD 7 was just diagnosed with a genetic disorder of her ligaments that causes the joints to be able to hyperextend and move in ways they shouldn't, which, in turn, causes pain and makes her very susceptible to injury. The therapy/treatment (there is no cure) is to build muscle around the joints to take over the job the ligaments are intended to do. Sooo... activity is key for both the girls, and well, the 11 y.o. son is a ball of energy in himself and could use constructive outlet!! LOL!

...not to mention Mom and Dad are both striving to lose weight and get fit! It's our mission to be good examples for the kids and stop the cycle of inactivity/sluggishness/health issues that existed in our house!

June Goal: 1000 Cardio Minutes!

I'm Cyndi. I have a 14 year old son who is a bundle of constant energy, and I am employed in the not-for-profit sector. I unfortunately am usually exhausted when I go home, so have resorted to parking in front of the TV for most evenings. This has led to my son doing the same thing.

Not long ago I took my son to meet with the athletic director of our local university, as he has expressed some interest in working as a personal trainer after high school. Immediately the athletic director noticed that my son is extremely well built for athletics - tall, lean, muscular. I felt so guilty that he could have a natural talent that I've been lax in encouraging.

My husband has been suffering for almost 4 years with leg and back trouble as a result of an at work injury. He is in pain much of the time, and because of inactivity has start to put on weight.

This challenge is perfect for us. I can't wait jump in with both feet. I'm still pretty new to Spark, so it's a perfect time to get started in a challenge.

Pain is temporary...quitting is forever. - Paul Plakas

Hi! I'm Sarah and I'm a stay at home mom of an 18 month old. Trying to get everyone in the house to be more active to set a good example for our daughter. I'm hoping that next fall (2011), I can get back into the horse show circuit which would require me to get in much better shape than I am now. We're a military family currently overseas so I've had to take the past 2 years off. By 2012, we'll be a horse show family. My daughter will be old enough to start showing, my husband likes western, and I'll be showing jumpers. That will keep us busy!

Hey! I'm Cindy (my friends call me Pix). I'm 33, Australian, and have 4 children aged 10, 12, 13 & 14.
My 14 yr old lives with his dad and only visits every other weekend.

My 2 boys have played Hockey for the last 3 years, but are ready to move on and try something different, but are unsure what at this stage, maybe football (Aussie rules of course!).

The 2 girls are into different things - the oldest one wants to join the local badminton league, and the other is talking about junior athletics ...

They all have too much energy for me! lol
But I'm here to work on that, and to become a more involved and FUN parent!!

Pixii :o)

emoticon HI I'm Deb and I am excited to do this challenge with my family. I have participated in other challenges that have helped me make healthier lifestyle changes so this one should be just as exciting.

We have already severely limited soda to rare occassions and chips are more often Sun Chips or preztels.

We start our summer participating in the Race for the Cure with my sister and her family. Each of us has a "buddy" of like abilities so we can push each other on. Then the next week we go camping at a campgounds with nature walks and bike trails and within walking distance of 2 state parks for more adventures.

My husband is also on Sparkpeople and said he'd join this challenge as well so we can trully do this together, Hooray!

My oldest is on Teen Spark for staying physically fit and is using the fitness tracker to track his activies during the summer to ensure he's prepared for cross country in the fall.

My youngest is to young for Teen Spark but he walks with my husband or I on his non-gym days during the school year and when the weather is icky for outdoor fun he does wii sports or wii fit to keep moving. He also has more desire for sweets then the rest of us so there will be some resistance on his part I'm sure.
