Good morning! My name is Amy. I am 33 years old and have been on a very long rollercoaster ride with my weight. It all started in college when I was 18. I was diagnosed with Hashimotos thyroiditis and had gained 60 pounds in one year. I got married and had two children a year and 12 days apart, c-section with both. At 9 months pregnant with the second I was topping the scale at 250. I still weigh 230 and now have arthritis and patellafemoral syndrome in my right knee. I want to lose weight and start off exercising and eating better for a few days and then lose my motivation. Working full time and being in pain often make it easy to make excuses. One day at a time...I just need to keep pushing forward.

Ahhh...finally a group that understands that it isn't about starving yourself or killing yourself in the gym or on the track but about taking those small steps, one day at a time, to truly CHANGE YOUR LIFE...not just your weight.
emoticon
I'm miserable at the weight I have put on but I know I can take it off...eventually...with a healthy lifestyle change. I have done it before and I will do it again but this time I will take my time to ensure the changes stick. This journey isn't just for me but for my kids, all of whom have trouble understanding the difference between a healthy lifestyle and the crap that is currently available to them every day. I am making these tiny steps in my and their lives to help us all live better, longer, and stronger! I want to be an example to them...but most of all...I just want to make sure I am still here for them down the line when they don't think they need me any more. emoticon

I'm in my 30s, I have 3 children (2 teenagers and a young'on on the autism spectrum), I work full time and I also go to school (for culinary and nutrition - yes, even people who know better struggle with this stuff)...it is hard to consider doing anything else.

Anywho - Thank you...whoever put this team together...THANK YOU!!! Today's tiny goal...I will meet my calorie goal...for today! emoticon

I'm bouncing around like a rabbit trying to hang on to the goal of getting healthier...as I'm fighting the obstacles that life and age present periodically and consistently!! emoticon

Though I want to hit exercise hard, and eat right consistently, I find my result is more like the hare's in the race rather than the turtle's...sporadic..and having to begin again and again..rather than slowly and consistently making progress. emoticon

I keep thinking I CAN be a hare - fast, furious, focused, with great results, soon!! But nope - at this point in my life...there is much that contradicts that focus, effort, and result!! BUT as the turtle in the race...I keep plugging, determined that I will NOT give up!! I WILL keep on!!!

THUS:
I love the title and icon of the turtle here! emoticon

Though I have joined several teams..and they each encourage or meet a need to bolster my journey to better health...I still am amazed at the variety of teams and encouragement offered still to be found on SP!!! So glad to have found this one! and am excited about the concept and the team! emoticon emoticon emoticon

They said therefore to Him, "What shall we do, that we may work the works of God? Jesus replied, "This is the work of God, that you believe in Him Whom He has sent."

Hello everyone, I've been a member of Sparkpeople for quite sometime and in the beginning the program worked for me but then even though I was sticking to the plan each week my losses got smaller and smaller until I became very frustrated and unmotivated. Then I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in both knees and could no longer exercise so I just about gave up!

I'm trying so hard to get back on track but it hasn't been easy. I've just stated walking again but the heat and humidity slows me down. I feel I will be able to do more when the weather cools down! In the meantime I'm still here!!

I'm working towards losing 100 lbs to help reduce a lot of lower back and hip pain plus to be able to get off of blood pressure pills. I was told if I lost 50 lbs I'd no longer need the meds but I need to actually lose 100 lbs to get back to a weight I can feel my best at.

Hi!

While I am new to this forum, I am definitely not new to weight loss. I've lost 120lbs thus far and have 65lbs to go. I'm a single teacher and I don't really know what else to say about myself!

Glad you came back to join the fight with us. Like you, I have a knee injury, A meniscus tear that is due for surgery on Aug. 22cd. I hope this will not set me back but I'm willing to fight the good fight & not let my progress slide. At present, 17 lbs. lost since May...most of which has just been by moving. Please stay at it, we know you can do it. Don't give up, I won't! emoticon

I am back again for another round. I started my first journey in September 2008, joined SP in January 2009 and lost 41 pounds by Halloween 2009. Now after having a knee injury in March 2010 I have gained all the weight back and am feeling really defeated right now. I know that I can climb the wall again but some days I am so tired I can't even stand to look at the fight ahead. I guess that is why I am back on Spark and looking for support.

It sure does count - don't let yourself say otherwise! It took time to gain the weight and it will take time to lose it.

Hi Julie,
I had surgery on my neck / back and it took me 2 years to get all my energy back to really work out. Don't sweat the 5 lbs and don't over do it. Remember to listen to your body and don't get mad at yourself. Soon enough you will be back to yourself and ready to lose more weight!

Hi Michelle,
I am in the same position as you. The fact that you can still lose it again after gaining is VICTORY! Remember how you use to just gain weight and never lose it? I know that was true with me until I transformed my mind. Keep it up and be glad that you can still lose it!

Hi, my name is Michele. I have been with SP for 3 months now. I saw this team on another person's SP page and had to join.I love the show the Biggest Loser but I definitely belong with this team. My weight loss has been slow. I have gained and lose the same pounds over and over again. As a results, I have only lose 12.5 pounds in three months basically 1 pound a week.

So glad I found this team, people just like me, losing weight very slowly bu weighting it.

Hi everyone,

New to SP, but not new to weight loss....lol! Made a commitment with myself in January to live a healthier lifestyle and stick to it. I'm 45, and for the last 5 years I feel like I fight for every pound that I lose. Lately, it seems like I am stuck losing and gaining the same 5 pounds. I hope to get inspired from your stories and your tips for breaking plateaus.

I'm active and go to the gym 3-4 times a week. I try and change it up as much as possible. Right now I am working on building miscle and reducing my bodyfat. I realize that I have to get passed the number on the scale.

Hi, My name is Doreen. I joined sparks in Jan. and gained and lost 4 pd. I have improved my eating habits. I am diabetic and have managed to reduce my insulin usage by 12 mls a day. I'm just not losing the weight. I have joined this group in the hopes that by lowering my expectations the weight will start to drop off slowly. After all I gained it slowly over 15 yrs. I hope it doesn't take that long to lose it but if it does thats okay. As long as my health continues to improve and my energy level continues to grow. emoticon

I am 52 years old too and find my metabolism slowing way down. I have thyroid problems on top of it and weight loss has all to come to a screaming halt. This sounds like a very fitting group to be in for me at this time. So I hope to have team support and I will support others as well.

hi there. Im 52 yrs. old and a binge eater. 15 weeks ago I decided Im going to take control of my life. I have been working out daily, and working hard at not binging...some good days, some not so good. I get discouraged because I have only lost13 lbs. in this time but I have started noticing some toning happening!! Im getting a waist back, and I have a lot more energy. Hopefully the scale will catch up with my workouts, Im not giving up this time. I gained it slowly and I will lose it slowly........very slowly LOL

Hi my name is Sam and I am new. I have done pretty good so far, but have found that my weight loss has gone up, down up down, become slower and slower, and now I am plateaued. It is very frustrating. I found the slowest loser team, and I joined because its nice to know that there are others who are going through what I am. emoticon

Hi my name is Carol, I'm 54 , a mother of 5 and grandmother of 7. Oh ya and a wife. LOL I have lost 62 lbs , some with Spark and some before coming here. I absolutely love this site and have met some wonderful people here. I am on the last 50lbs and just need to expand my horizons. I'm in a plateau that I am finding hard to get thru. Not gaining and not losing unless it is the pound I gained last week. But I'm ready to get down the next 50. I wanted to do it by my birthday but that will be a feat. Thanksfor reading this. I hope to be present on this team.

Hi. My name is Shelby. I am 38 yr old single mom. I have lost 55.7 lbs in the last 10 months. I am not complaining. But I see a LOT of people that have lost my same amount of weight in half the time and sometimes I get discouraged. My weight loss has crawled at a snail's pace these last 3 months. I saw this team and I just had to join. I love the biggest loser. It is one of my favorite shows. But it is a whole different story trying to lose weight when you don't have your own gym 10 ft. away from you, personal trainers, and no kids, work, school, or other responsibilities. I am glad to be a member of this team and look forward to making some new friends.

Hi! I am new to this team. In December I began my healthy lifestyle - eating healthier foods, paying attention to when I am full, and exercising at least 30 minutes per day.

I bought a treadmill in January that I LOVE, complete with an ifit module. I started running and have - as of this date - ran two 5ks. I have plantar fasciitis (high arches) but am pushing through it. There are weeks where I can only walk due to the pain.

So, it is a slow process. But, I am in for the long haul, so it is okay.

Hi emoticon I am new to this Team but not to Spark. I have been a real slow loser emoticon all along -- Never have watched the Biggest Loser but figured I could still join this team anyway.

One of the books in my vast book collection of "diet" books is The Tortoise Diet-- haven't read it yet but I have gotten it out to get some extra added motivation for the "Slow" going but yet making progress part.

I have read The Spark ,which was very motivational also but I am one to keep on adding to my arsenal until it all comes together --- and I know it will Slowly but Surely

I look forward for the motivation I know will come just being a member of this team emoticon emoticon

Hello, my name is Becky. Just joined this group and I'm hoping for some motivation to stop the nagging voice that tells me I should lose weight quicker. Slow progress makes me frustrated even though I know that is the best way.
Here's to all of us on our journey to a healthier life. Good Luck!

Hi, I am Linda from Pennslylvania. I have been on this journey since September 30, 2006. I have done some back slidding, but no regrets. I have the rest of my life to lose this excess weight, not in any great hurry, put plan on having tons oif fun along the way. You know, the 'all work and noi play' thing.

More about me.....I am a 65 year old woman who lives with a 13 year old mutt. I walk daily, many times with her. She is an excellent partner, and we do between 3 and 6 miles, depending on the weather and hoow tired either one of us is. We have done as many as 9, our top this year was just over 8. I say we don't do bad for a pair of old broads. I also hike and bike. When I have a gym membership, I'll swim laps also. I love to dance, and if I have good tunes an a partner, I think nothing of spendiong hours on the dance floor............usually at winefests, where I'll dance off the alcohol calories. This year I am 'greening' as much as I can and doing as many things on my bike as possible instead of getting the car out. I am fortunate to have 2 grocery stoures, a shopping center, a strip mall, Walmart, Kmart, a grocery outlet, the Salvation Army Store and a branch of my bank all within a 5 mile radius.

Howdy friends!
My name is Lina and I am excited to have a group for losing weight SLOWLY! I know that in the overall picture I don't have a LOT to lose, but I know that what i do have to lose needs to come off slowly. Due to some health problems, this 26-year-old is having to learn to make a lot of changes to the types of activities I can do, and I am starting to realize that all my life I have relied on exercise alone to keep fit and have never paid much more attention to food than calories in-calories out. So, this is me trying to learn!
