What you need from the group to be successful: Advice and simple conversations to help motivate each other. It's nice that we are all in the school system because we all understand the schedule and what it's like to be in a classroom all day.

Hobbies: Scrapbooking, watching/playing sports, spending time with friends and family, and going to happy hour (one of my problems) :)

Exercise: The elliptical and Slim in 6 program

How long on Spark People: I started a couple years ago, but have been very active since January 2010

What you need from the group to be successful: I love the suggestions, support, and all round camaraderie of SP. I look forward to goodies, comments, messages from my SP friends. I feel we have strength when we help each other.

Hobbies: Huh, here's the problem...food, cooking, wine, entertaining, eating. Guess I need new hobbies!

Exercise: My favorite is walking and hiking in the beautiful area where I live. But in the winter I put up with my elliptical and treadmill.

Occupation: Superintendent/Principal of a small single school district

How long: I taught for 20 years before making the leap to administration. I miss teaching, but love that I now have 125 students, instead of 25.

I live in the great Midwest.
My goal is to avoid diabetes and lose 45 pounds.

I'm doing South Beach and though I was an avid sugar and bread hound, I LOVE this diet. I've lost about 15 lbs so far. My doctor says it's lose weight and get healthy or face diabetes, so here I go.

I'd love an accountability buddy, someone whose blogs I can read and keep each other signing in and doing the nutrition tracker daily.

Hobbies: Reading, movies, and I am passionate about the writing process and all genres of creative writing.

Excercising: I DESPISE exercise. Currently, I am honestly doing NOTHING but walking to my classes.

Occupation: I am an adjunct professor of English, teaching all levels of college composition.

This will be my 8th year teaching college level, though I taught 9th grade English before I had my children, about 15 years ago.

My goal is to manage my diabetes and lose another 70 pounds.

I tried SparkPeople a few years ago and lost about 50 pounds, but quit and put it all back on. After recently being diagnosed with diabetes, I have lost about 70 pounds. I'm scared about plateauing, so I got back on SP, hoping that some structure and support will keep me on track.


I need people who are supportive to chat with.

Hobbies: Reading, movies, computer games.

Excercising: I have started to walk again. I hate to excercise and it is a HUGE challenge to me to do anything at all.

Occupation: I teach high school English.

I am beginning my fifth year.

My goal: is to lose about 125-135lbs and get into shape
How long on SP: I was here for about 5 or 6 months in 2006, then stopped. I have been back for 2 weeks.

What I need from the group to be successful: encouragement not to quit the meal planning when I am putting in late nights with lesson planning for 3 preps, grading, trying to be a mom, wife, etc.!

Hobbies: If I truly had the time, I would love to get back to sculpting. But for now, I content myself with reading during breaks, and playing on Second Life. (Oh, yeah, that new thing called going to the gym!)

The exercises I do: I swim at the gym, treadmill, recumbent bike, walk, and I am about to venture into the exercise machines for strength training. I'd like to try a yoga class, too.

Occupation: I teach Chemistry, Biology/AP Biology, and a new course this year, Experimental Design and Research. And I am a technology trainer for my fellow teachers.

Where you Live: The Philippines (but I lived in Honolulu, Hawaii for several years)

Your goals: Lose 40 pounds, and make exercise a habit for life

How long have you been on spark people: On and off, but I rejoined back in May

What you need from the group to be successful: HELP - mostly with regards to time management (I'm doing classroom teaching for the first time) and keeping my students motivated.

Hobbies: Pop-culture stuff (movies/ TV/ Facebook); reading, dancing, listening to music, knitting, shopping, Sudoku... and grading papers (j/k)

What type of exercise do you do? Mostly DVDs: yoga, aerobics, dance. When the weather is nice, I would go for a long power walk/run - sometimes alone, and sometimes with my dogs.

Occupation: Part-time college lecturer. I currently teach education theory to undergraduates at my local state university (the Philippine schedule is different from the American one), so I'm always looking for ways to keep my kids motivated.

How long have you been in this occupation? I got my Masters in Education in the States two years ago. Long story short, I came home to the Philippines so I can spend more time with my family here. Now I am a licensed professional teacher in this country, and am working towards getting tenure at the university.
