emoticon Jeannie! I would suggest picking one goal to start with whether that's nutrition or exercise. Once you reach that goal then set another one. I sometimes find trying to fix everything at once too overwhelming. Don't expect to be perfect. You will mess up from time to time.

Hi, I am Jeannie. I am reading specialist in Richmond. I switched careers 13 years ago and have never looked back. I have a lot of weight to lose and find that work seems to get me off track. Any secrets to using this site and balancing it with the demands of the classroom would be helpful.

My name is Robin. After 15 years of working in high school special education (para-educator, then teacher), I now work in the college setting as a disabilities tutor and test proctor. Hi, I am a retired elementary teacher. I taught 4th grade for 30 years and was a math interventionist for 2. I lost 32 pounds after I retired but have since put them back on. I am walking 3-4 miles a day but can't seem to keep my hand away from my mouth. My husband is a meat and potato man so it is hard to cook two separate meals. I do fine for breakfast and lunch but dinner is always a problem. My grandmother is 100 and is in a nursing home. I go every day at 5 and feed her so we never get to eat until around 7 p.m. Hopefully joining a few team pages will give me the motivation I need.

Hi everyone,
My name is Tahirih and I am an elementary intervention specialist. I work with Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades. I am married and have a 24 year old son, a cat named Lilly and a little shih tzu named Baby. My son was just accepted into the Navy in the nuclear engineering program and I am so proud of him. I have been working on losing weight since January. I have lost 34 pounds so far and have 69 pounds left to go. It's nice to be on here with other teachers.

Hello,

I'm British living permanently in Japan, trained in TESOL and I've been teaching college students English for 27 years. I recognized some of my issues here :-). Long commute, not finding time to cook enough etc.

This summer, a worrying loss of energy, too, and weight gain. I joined deciding to turn this around. My retirement age is 70 and I want to continue enjoying teaching for the next 8 years :-).

Hello Team!

Hi everyone,
I am not a teacher yet, just a student working on my secondary education degree. I am hoping to get fit and stay healthy so that I can show my students a good example for them to follow. I remember what it was like for me in school and I hope that I can help one student by being an example. My son's school just did a jog-a-thon for a fund raiser and I want to be one of the teachers that is out running with the students and urging them to keep going and doing their best.
As a mother of 3 busy kids (ages 12, 7, 4), a student myself and my husband a graduate student a lot of our lives revolve around school. I am committed to fitting fitness into my busy schedule and making it a priority in my life.

The only thing you can't accomplish is the thing you don't start.

I joined this group a while ago and then stopped logging onto Spark. My name is Jessica. I am currently on my 10th year of being preschool teacher. I am student teaching in 3rd grade. I'm just ready to move up in the world. I have loved my littles but I am so ready for more stimulation. I am married. My husband is also a teacher. He teaches high school. We have a funny little dog named Blade. He keeps me active and motivated. I am here because I learned to love myself and now I'm ready to get going on being healthy and fit. I wrote a blog about this. I realized no matter how big or small I was I always thought I was fat. When I learned to accept and love myself then I allowed myself to get back on Spark and on track. Here I am. I am also a very shy person, so feel free to bombard me, otherwise I'll be very lonely on here.

I am trying to avoid artificial sweeteners and cut back on processed foods, but not too strictly yet. I'm most proud that this is day 8 of no diet sodas!
I used to drink 8-10 20 oz diet Pepsi a day!

When I did this weight loss thing after first joining spark all I did was count calories and I ate whatever I wanted. I gradually ate cleaner but it took some time. I didn't want to be too strict to start with.

I am definitely taking yours and Heather's advice on the batch cooking. I love salads with grilled chicken, so I plan to bake or grill chicken this Sunday for the upcoming week. I'm trying to end my "dependence" on soft drinks (diet ones) and eliminate artificial sweeteners too. I would love to eat clearn, avoiding processed foods, but I don't think i am quite ready to make that commitment yet. Thanks for the encouragement!

Welcome! I agree with Heather. Prep on weekends and have it all in containers, ready to go. Keep healthy snacks and work and even in your car or purse for situations where you may be tempted to grab something unhealthy.
Set a goal to exercise 10 min. at a time and build from there. Don't try to change everything all at once.

You can do this Ginger! You really can...

I always love to do big batch cooking on the weekend... I try to do it once a month or so and make up some BIG batches of different things and put them in the freezer in single servings.. .then I can pull out lunch or dinner easy peasy.
I buy and put together salads for the week for lunches too so I can mix it up. I put together my weeks worth of meals on Sunday because I do not have time during the week, including my breakfast which is oatmeal and a piece of fruit.

Hi!

I am a community college teacher from Alabama. I desperately need encouragement and support to succeed in losing at least 70 pounds (an effort at which I have failed for the past 20 years). After a truly near death illness, I am more appreciative of every moment of life, and I want to live a healthy lifestyle to be able to be an active grandmother/godmother, an enthusiastic teacher, and an adventurous traveler.

I lack organization to prepare ahead for the next day's lunch. I need to work on scheduling time for exercise and food prep. I appreciate any encouragement and advice anyone can offer.

Hey there Everyone.... Im new to this team but not new to Spark... I lead the BC Girls team... and I really love Spark! I've dropped 50lbs with Spark People and am looking for another 10-15 to disappear and not come back emoticon I don't like to say loose because I don't want to find them again... emoticon

I am a Mom of three kiddos.. ages 14, 18 and 20, been married to the love of my life and my very best friend for 21 years and for the past 20 years I have owned and run a daycare/preschool business. I am at the tail end getting my ECE just need to finish my practicum .... I also run a home baking business that is mostly seasonal ... the Christmas Season.

Hi I am Rebecca and have been at this weight loss thing for a long time...this fall my youngest kids left for college and now there are no excuses. I am working hard at tracking my food and exercising and the weight is coming off...who knew??? I teach Early Childhood Special Education so I am up and down from little chairs and the floor all day long. It feels good to be able to get up and down with less effort.

My name is Billie Jean and I am a single mom to a beautiful 12 year old daughter. I need to lose at least 150 pounds so needless to say I have a very long journey ahead of me. I am going to school to become a teacher so I am trying to get my weight under control before I finish school. I am in my last semester before I start internship & residency so I will be interviewing for my placement at the end of this semester and my greatest fear is that they school officials will take one look at me and think that there is no way I can keep up with the students and be a good role model for them. Hi everyone! I'm new here, and ready to go. I guess you can say "I'm tired of being tired!"
