Hi Team! I'm completely with you on your expressed hopes and dreams. Today is my 1st full week since joining SparkPeople. I have been learning so much, especially about nutrition, calories, fats, carbs, proteins, and portions! I've use the food tracker all week and worked hard to stay within my calorie count. I had some slip ups in the beginning, but am doing better. I need help in the exercising department, and so I think this walking challenge will help me stick with it.

I Wish Everybody Much Success with Meeting Your Goals! I'm off for my walk! ;-)

Hi Lisa in Chicago,
I have to first say that I love your name( Pamperingme!) it is too cute! I have always wanted to go to Chicago, maybe someday. And as in all your doing is walking, I have been told that is a great place to start. And I am doing the walking to emoticon And if that's all we can do, we are moving! You will do good and glad to see you, hope to see you around! emoticon This could be me too!

Hello everyone, my name is Lisa and I'm in Chicago, Walking is my only form of cardio exercise cuz I just recommitted to my health and I have walked almost 20 mile this month. I am all in with this training and 5K walk. I will stay focused on my health this time.

"Commit thy works onto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.", Proverbs 16:3

I love this scripture because it tells me that if I live according to God's ways I don''t even have to think for myself.... How easy is that :-)

be afraid only of standing still

Hello everyone, been gone a while, but I'm back. I've always wanted to run a 5K but decided to do it walking first... then bump up to the next level and so on.
My current goals are to
a) exercise more - moderatly, my issues have always been my all or nothing attitude
b) eat lots more veggies, less meats and white flour
c) run in next year's local 5K. That gives me plenty of time to work up to the running (which I've always hated, but want to break free of that)

There are no problems, only Challenges! And I LOVE a good challenge.

Hello, I am Bernie. I am 65 years old and trying to make up for years of unhealthy habits while I am still in decent shape. I did lose 25 pounds pounds last year, but I have been backsliding lately. Although I am within five pounds of the top of my healthy weight range, I have a small frame so I need to lose another 20 pounds or so to lose the remaining rolls and saddlebags. Walking is the one exercise I can and will do on a regular basis so I am taking on this challenge to get back on track. emoticon

Hi yall, this is my first time trying this. I really want to do it to get myself walking and maybe eventually jogging and running. I want to be able to walk without getting out of breath and feeling like im going to pass out lol.

Here I go again...

I used to love to walk...but have had some calf pain...but I'm ready to press through. My eventual goal is run a 5k in September. But I figured I need to start small and walk 3 miles first (without keeling over) Needless to say I'm scared of the pain but know I need press on to make some positive changes in my life. So here I go....

Good Morning! This is my first fitness challenge ever. I'm so glad to have found one that isn't too hard for me. I just finished tracking my Day 1 activity - 15 minutes walking - and I feel great.

Hello my name is Darlene. I am from Pascagoula, MS. In 2011 I participated in a 5K walk to benefit the New Orleans Aids Task Force. I completed that walk in 1hr and 15 min. with no training what so ever and having recovered from foot surgery. The virtual race seems like a good challenge to aid in my weight loss program. I look forward to getting to know everyone.

Hello everyone. My name is Marilyn and I need to get busy exercising so I am going to use the program to keep me motivated. I have many medical issues that are caused because I am over weight. If I lose the weight the worst of the problems would improve and some would clear up all together. I usually start out exercising and then get sick and stop. Takes long time to get back to exercising when I finally get well. I have to stick with this.

Hi my name is Kerry. I had left myself go away from Sparkpeople and gave up on myself in the health and fitness department. But a friend and I joined our local gym at the end of May and I decided to come back to Sparkpeople. I have lost 6 pounds since coming back. I workout everyday, even if it is just a little form of excerise. I have given up on walking for my health. So I joined this challenge to reward myself for all my hard work so far! I have started training for it today. I walked 25 minutes in the hilly cementary by my house. My dh said that the route I took was close to a 2 mile walk. So I am proud of myself for accomplishing that today!
Good luck to everyone! I know that we can do this challenge! emoticon

I left SparkPeople for awhile (very short while) when giving up on myself. but then I got a bit of a kick in the backside (to be polite) and came back with a renewed attitude and I have been walking or exercising most everyday (missed 2 this month). I finally made my evening walks a mile the other day. So I thought this would be a great challenge to bring myself to the next level. I signed up for the 5k walking for beginners. emoticon
My training will begin Monday morning so going to try to get up early (before 10) and beat the heat for my walking on training days the rest of the time I will stick to my evening walks and my other exercises.
Good luck to all may we all make our goals in this.

Hi! My name is Leesa and I live in the Seattle area. I joined SP 2/01/12 and this is my first virtual 5K! I had both of my knees replaced in the last couple years and it is GREAT to be able to walk again! --- Over achiever that I am, I'm also training to walk the 3-Day for the Cure in September! That's 20 miles a day for 3 days! My goal is 10 miles each of the three days! This 5K Virtual Race will help me train for that as well! When I started training for the 3-Day I could barely walk a half mile. My longest distance, so far, is 5 miles. I'm not fast -- only about 2 mph -- but I am determined!

Hi I'm Juli and this is also my first 5K anything. Almost 1 year ago I had a total knee replacement. And now I am so happy that I can walk again.

I am looking forward to completing this challenge.

Hi, I'm Tara from Alberta Canada. This is my first 5K anything! I'm nervous and excited about it...I have started walking every day but I'm relatively slow, doing a 30 minute mile right now but hoping that will improve before the walk, but even if it doesn't, my goal is to finish and finish I will.

This is my first ever 5K walking program. I never sign up for these things because if I fail then everyone knows that I'm a failure. This time seems different. I'm looking forward to completing something I've started. I am a beginner in every sense of the word. I know because of a psychical condition I will never be a runner but walking I can do. I won't be fast but I will cross the finish line.

Thank you for this opportunity.

Hi everyone.

I just joined the team to help achieve multiple goals. The first being to get in shape and the second to finally run my first 5k. I know I have to start slow and work my way up and I am excited about marking this off my bucket list. I am hoping this will be something I stick with and finally see through to the finish.

Hi,
My name is Carol and I live near Philadelphia. I joined SP in April but didn't really get serious about sticking to my program until this month. I've got about 25 more pounds to lose.

I joined because I need a little push to get me walking farther. Plus it sounded like fun, joining a team instead of doing it on my own.

Good luck to all of us!

Hi, I from the USA living in Scotland. I've been doing daily dog walks for nearly six weeks now. I've gone from hobbling one mile in 40 minutes to walking 2.5 miles in one hour. I joined the 5K race for the accountability aspect, and I want to increase my distance without injuring my knees and ankles in the process. Hubby is always trying to get me to do too much too fast and then I end up sidelined. Walking the 5K is a good goal for me. Eventually I want to be able to do at least 5 miles with hubby. (He has a much faster pace than me. He is 9 inches taller and in much better shape than me.)

Hi, my name is Kimberly. I am just coming off of a foot injury, and really want to get walking again. I am planning on using this program to ease back into it (I can walk now, just haven't gone any real distance since I got hurt). The Dr. and I feel the gradual steps for this will be perfect for me to get moving again.

I will be walking, because I've only been doing regular exercise for about 4 months now, and I have some physical issues that would prevent running at this point. Hi team. I'm Viola from OK. I drive a truck and I am behind a week the wheel 11 to 12 hours a day 5 days a week and in the sleeper the remaining 12 hours a day while my co-driver takes the wheel. Time is a problem but I am ready for a specific goal.

Five years ago, I was walking 6 miles a day but that was then. I am looking forward top the training and our virtual 5k.

hI My name is Melanie From myrtle beach SC

I have a clotting disorder from which Ive had three strokes, seizures and balance issues
I always fight back, its very hard. I want to learn to jog/run, bike, dance again.
just to look in the mirror and find me would be great.

but simply to walk in a 5k in 30min would also be wonderful!

first fitness goal=Pride

Hola! I am from the USA but live in Chile. I need to lose a lot of weight and have just started a walking program at the gym. My goal is to be able to complete a 5k (walking of course) and to climb Machu Picchu. Any suggestions/motivations would be greatly appreciated emoticon

I'm not new to walking but need to change things up a little. My best walk was 8 miles. But due to the AZ heat have scaled it back to 5 miles. I hope when things cool down in the AZ heat to walk 10 miles. If it is not so hot I like to go ever day. But like I said every other day works. emoticon

Hi, Kat here. Sparking again. Thought this would be a great way to keep me motivated to walk. Eventual goal to actually run.

That's great Sibille! 25 pounds is fantastic, and I'm glad you are feeling better than before your surgery. Keep up the great work!!
