Hello I'm cheryl (sungbird2000) and I have been a walker for a couple years now, and have been doing walking/jogging intervals for about a year, and am really working hard to be able to jog a full mile without stopping and once that goal is accomplished work towards 1.5, then 2 then 3 miles being able to jog without stopping. I was really excited about this SparkTeam Page because I know you all will help me to get on a good training program and will help push me towards my goals! Looking forward to moving to the next level, and officially being able to call myself a jogger/runner! I have also signed up to participate in my first 5K that allows you to walk/jog, the race is 2/26/11.

Hi 5K team! I'm Margot from NJ. I've run a few 5Ks in the past, but never actually trained to run one, just kinda threw myself into it. I'm hoping that by going about this appropriately I'll be able to maintain better breathing skills and run faster.

Hey Team!

I'm Erika, from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada (about 2 hours North of Potsdam NY). I've run before, races ranging from 3-10K, but never really felt like a runner, never really been happy with my pace, and as a result never really stuck with it.

It is cold and icy outside my door today (I'd probably have better luck skating down my street than running), but I'm determined to get out there anyway and (carefully) get moving. Things are supposed to warm up tomorrow, so hopefully easier times are ahead.

I'm hoping to run my first 10K on Ottawa race weekend in May 2011, and then the Utica Boilermaker 15K in July, but the first step will be getting comfortable with a 5K distance, and, most importantly, improving my pace. Looking forward to "running the race" with you all!

Hi Team!

I am training for the Susan G. Koman Race for the Cure in April, so this is perfect timing for me! I am a sophomore in college, and for me the "Freshman 15" was actually a loss, not a gain! I tried using another training plan, but didn't finish it out. I never felt like I was getting anywhere, but I really like Spark's training plan a lot, and also LOVE that I can come here and get support from other people! Not only do I want to run a 5k, but I want to become a runner. Since going to college, getting on the treadmill or running outside has kept me grounded and really helped lower my stress level and clear my head after a full day of classes. I am a goal oriented and result motivated person, so I know doing something like this will continue to motivate me to slowly train my body to jog and run more than walk!
A little about me... my faith, my family, and my music define who I am! I love spending time with friends and family, cooking and baking, being outdoors, and playing the flute! I am a flute performance major and LOVE music.

I can't wait to train with you all! Happy 5k'ing!

Hi! So glad Spark People has added this virtual 5K running team! I have been having my own personal 5K's each month since November. It will be great to have others to talk with, to share times with, and make my own monthly 5K races seem more "real". I have been giving names to my 5K's to make them seem more race like. This month, I will complete my Sweetheart Scramble the last Saturday in Feb.
I have been using the C25K training program, but have recently re-started back to week 1.
Good luck everyone! Looking forward to making new friends.

Hi Team!
I am so excited about this opportunity. I am now in Wk6 of C25K and was so excited to join a "virtual race", because I'm not sure I will ever have the courage to run a real one!! I have quit C25K twice before, but I never made it this far and I did not have the AMAZING SUPPORT then that I have now on SPARK PEOPLE! I am finishing C25K this time!! emoticon emoticon We can do this!

Hi, My name is Megan and I am training for a 5K on April 2nd. I started running in middle school and ran Cross Country and Track in high school a few 5ks the first 2 years of college and then pretty much stopped running. After college, I wanted to lose the weight i had gained and started running again and ran a 5k in July 2009 with my Mom (SuzieQ115 here on sparkpeople). Then i got lazy again after that summer and am just now finding the motivation to become a runner again.

I have 7 weeks to go until my 5K race!

My name is Mary. My daughter has talked me into running a 5k (maybe walk/run) April 10th so the timing to start training is perfect. I am 61 yrs old and have lost 87.6 lbs. since last June. I already do an outdoor brisk walk every morning at 6 a.m. and have recently been experimenting a bit with alternating with a light run. Looks like this will be a good place for me to be in the next 8 weeks. Thanks for this opportunity.

Hi I'm Joanne and I did the c25k plan last fall and ran a 5k in November and then fell off the wagon. I thought this would be a good place for me to get started again. I would like to continue to build my strength and do longer and longer runs. I need a little push to get me back in the routine and this looks like a good way to do that.

Hello everyone! My name is Izzy and I did C25k last spring and was running up to 45 minutes before Christmas. However, I haven't been running in over two months at this point and I feel like this would be a great way to motivate myself to get back into running!

Hi I'm Lynn! I did the Couch to 5K program taking my time last summer, and while I "graduated" to running 30 minutes, I was slow enough that I wasn't running a 5K. I kept trying, but couldn't push past 30 minutes of running. I guess I "trot", not run! emoticon

I took a strength training class at the gym and finally logged my first 5k on the treadmill earlier this winter! I stopped running to focus on strength training and now want to try to put it all together - the nutrition, the weights *and* the running! I'm looking forward to having virtual running buddies!

Hi all - I'm Jill and I want to run my first 5K this April. I've been training primarily on the treadmill and am up to 2.8 miles at a 5 mph pace. I guess I first focus on the distance and then the speed? I want to make sure I do this without getting hurt -- just turned 47 and the knees are probably not what they used to be! Glad to be here and I look forward to cheering you all on.

Hi everyne . Im June and Im so happy to have found a beginner runners team. I lead the Official Spark NJ team ------------ and a I co-lead the 50+ with 10-24 pounds to lose. I run challenges on both teams and both are fun and active.
I am 57 years old - retired from a long corporate career and "smoke free" for 7 years. I decided to add fitness and - changing to a healthier lifestyle to my "retirement" plan - so here I am on SP - learning - and reading - and going to my local YMCA for group exercise classes - and tracking nutrition - and learning a better healthier way to eat - and ballroom dancing - and supporting others on their fitness journey and now RUNNING. I also want to lose 15 more pounds - my original total was 20 - and I am down 5 (hopefully forever gone pounds). I started trying to run about 4 months ago. I hit a weight loss plateau and needed to make a change in my fitness routine. Since I was a 30 year smoker - running was never something I ever considered........... and to start running at 57 was nuts. But one day on one of my walks - I decided to jog to the next corner................. then a few days later - I jogged to the mailbox - then little by little I kept increasing how kuch I jogged and reduced how much I walk and one day I realized I was almost doing half and half....................much to my surprise at the ripe age of 57 - I was a runner. The next surprise was the scale - which reported that I lost 3 pounds and this girl was a happy retiree...
I ran my first 5k at the Jersey shore ------- and walked most of it - but now Im ready to face the spring season signing up for a 5k once pr month and running most of it --------- not walking most of it.

Happy this team is formed................. and Im happy to be here.................and as you all can tell - Im chatty ! :) emoticon

Be fit - healthy - and toned

I believe weight loss is more about how much you eat - and exercise is more about toning.

Hi, I'm Angie. I've always wanted to do a 5K, but didn't think I could handle it. So, I took the plunge and did a 5K with another sparkmember last November, and now I'm hooked. I'm going to do a 4 miler in April (charity cause), so this program is right on time. I'm looking forward to doing 4 more 5Ks before the year is out. Good Luck to all !!

Hi, my name is Hazel and i live on the East Coast of Devon (England).

I have just signed up for Race for Life (5k in aid of Cancer Research) in July. I am doing the race with my two daughters aged 13 and 15 and we go for at least one run a week together.

I am quite lucky in that the local seafront is about 5.2k and when the evenings are lighter I will get out and do more. In October last year I posted just under 35 mins for the whole distance. I am out of practice, am currently nursing a pulled hamstring and also love cycling in the Spring and Summer. SO what with a min 25 hr a week job, a DH and two DD's to run round after and a house to look after, time is limited.

BUT looking forward to the support and inspiration here, I needed that boost today! Off for my first training run tonight! Just a shame I can't win any of the prizes!

Congrats to everyone on their Spark Journeys so far! emoticon

I've previously run 5ks and longer races, but I've been really sick (bed rest) for a few months and was just cleared to start exercising again in January. I've been running (well, jogging) on my treadmill for a couple of weeks, and I definitely need short-term goals to keep me motivated.

I've been a Sparkmember for a while, but I bought The Spark a couple of weeks ago. I'm enjoying following the book step by step since I've gained weight (and lost motivation).

I'm always looking for Sparkfriends so feel free to send me a message.

Good luck and happy trails everyone!

I did a C2K program about 2 years ago and built up to a Half Marathon last March. I stopped running afterwards, but I miss it. The Half was too much for me (but a great once in a lifetime accomplishment). My goal now is to be able to comfortably run 5K three times a week. I'm fighting a bit of a runner's knee, so hope the walk/jog plan will keep my knee happy.

Hi! I am Amy. I ran a 5k a year ago September in the Susan G. Koman Race for the Cure. It was hard (since I was always a sprinter and not a distance runner) but it was so much fun and such a big accomplishment to finish the race. I stopped after that and now I want to get back into it. I would like to run a few 5Ks and then 10ks and I would like to one do run a half marathon. We will see. One step at a time. On Sunday a friend and I are running in a %k relay so we only run 1.6 miles. We thought it would be a great way to start this adventure. And by the time we finish this program maybe we will be ready for the whole thing. Good luck to everyone thru this program and I hope you all have a great weekend.

Hi, I'm Robyn. I started running in 1997 with my hubby - we did a few 5k races together and I loved it. It also helped me loose weight. I had my first child in 1998, and then my 2nd in 2001...and at that point I was in need of something to help me get the weight off.

It took a couple of years to get my head into the game, but I started my journey in 2004, and running is what has really helped me shed the weight. I am not fast, and I have not been consistant.....so I still need to run to shed weight - but more importantly - I run to stay sane...

I have not run much since last October, and am now just getting back into it - the program for runners is just what I need.....

looking forward to getting to know everyone.

Robyn - Massachusetts

Hi, I'm Kendra. I hope that with the warming temperatures I'll be able to get my daughter outside with me and I can start some sort of running. I think it'll take me a little longer than 5 weeks but I'm happy to just learn more!

Hi new team members! I'm a few weeks into my Spark journey and signed up for a 5k at the end of April with friends. Then a really, really cool 5k opportunity came up at the end of March and I signed up for that one, too. It's the first Philadelphia Phillies 5k, and the cool down lap is around the bases, and you get your photo taken at home plate. I'm so excited! So training will definitely come in handy.

Hi Everyone! I'm Krystie, I live near Atlanta Ga and this challenge has come at a great time, I will be participating in a 5k in April so this virtual training/race is perfect for me.

A little about me, I'm 33, I'm happily married and we have 4 children, ages 14, 11, 9 & 4. I've been on my weight loss journey since 1.1.10 and have lost 70lbs so far!!

I can't wait to know everyone and train together~!

Hugs!
Krystie

Hi everyone! My name is Donna and I am very excited about this new team. In 2010, I used the C25K training plan and participated in several 5K races. This year my goal is to complete a 10K race and at least 1 local 5-mile race in addition to several 5Ks.
It is snowy and cold here in Ohio so I have been training inside but can't wait until I can run outside again. I look forward to meeting new and experienced runners through this team. emoticon

Hi Runners! My name is Sharon and I will be leading this team with Coach Jen! I'm very excited to share the running journey with all of you.

I have been running for about 15 years and while I have a few half and full marathons under my belt, I truly believe that you are a REAL RUNNER from the day you take the first step! No matter how far or how fast you go, you're a runner!

I look forward to sharing my love of running with everyone!
