KARENJP2020 and KARENJP2020: Very happy to have you join the team and looking forward to do this with you!
On this team we do not diet but eat healthy. It opens a whole new world of new veggies, fruits and recipes.
I ask all new members to look up their BMI - body mass index is a tool that tells you where you are and where you should be to reach YOUR healthy weight.
Also taking 4 measurements. EX; chest, waist, hips, upper arm, upper leg. This will be another check point as you may lose inches faster than weight depending on the exercise you do and your fitness level.

Hi, I'm Christina. So glad to have stumbled upon this team! Finally, found a team with ACTIVE members!!! I am not "new" to SP. But, I've fallen off the wagon a few times. I'm back though, and trying to stay focused and positive. In the past I've weighed daily (thinking I may be going back to that - as it seems to work best for me). I've been back on this journey for (this is week 2 now) and had originally decided to weigh in weekly. I lost 7lbs. the first week, and NOTHING this second week. (I did get off track for about 4 days). Which is why I feel like weighing daily is a HUGE help to me. Anyhow, glad to be here & I look forward to getting to know everyone here.

Hi everyone. I'm Mish & my goal is to go from 104 kg to 75 kg, giving myself 12 months to do it.
My BMI is 36.2.
I'm NOT impressed that I've let myself become this way.
Going to achieve this by making better food choices & upping my fitness program.
Portion distortion was also a problem.
I don't believe in denying myself, so when I have a indulgence, I'll have a smaller portion & only once a week.
I've become better at saying " No thank you" politely but firmly.
I like to weigh in once a week, usually on a Wednesday.
Looking forward to supporting everyone on their journeys

LIBROOKIAN: Hi Brooke! emoticon to our team.

On this team, we do not diet but eat healthy. I always suggest to new members to weigh-in, look up their BMI (Body Mass Index) - a great tool that tells you where you stand are and where you should aim to reach your healthy weight. Also to be mindful of what you eat - ice cream or ice milk, yogurt or no-fat yogurt? and mindful of portions size. We have monthly and weekly challenges, last-day -of -the-month weigh-in and much more.

Together emoticon Looking forward to learn from your experiences, too

Hello all!

My name is Sarah, I'm 34 years old, and currently living in frigid Alaska. I'm passionate about sports (specifically baseball, I'm a diehard New York Yankees fan!), all forms of art (specifically fashion, writing/journalism, and mixed media art journaling), alternative/punk/heavy metal music, living as cruelty-free and vegan as possible in all aspects of my life.

I'm back to using SparkPeople after a nearly 7-year hiatus due to weight gain from medication side effects and a serious exercise injury that still bothers me to this day... emoticon

So not only am I trying to lose the weight I gained, I'd like to lose a few more pounds on top of that, improve and diversify my fitness regiment, and improve/solidify my nutritional diet plan.

Hope to see you all around!

TERRY DAWN: emoticon to our now number and the one that you should strive to reach for a healthy weight. Take 4 body measurements and record those too as your beginning measures. could be waist, hips, upper leg and upper arm or which ever you prefer. This will be your staring point. In three months, you can do this again and see how many inches you have lost total and where you're at as far as BMI.

On this team I insist that we don't Diet but Eat Healthy. As a diabetic, you have your equivalency and should follow doctors order at a T. Losing weight will surely help you health wise. I'm sure you have already met with your dietician and please do this the safe way!

Hi, everyone! My name is Bob. I just came back to SP after a many year hiatus and I am looking to lose 28 pounds. I don't really believe in BMI, but right now mine is 28.7 (in the overweight range.) If I get down to 140 pounds again, I will be back in the healthy BMI range.

I have been tracking my calories again for several weeks and was able to very quickly see why my weight has been stagnant in the 160s for the last few years. I eat too much! So that's my main focus right now--lowering my caloric intake. I'm pretty good about moving. Last week I walked 128,000 steps, but it's the eating that I really need to master.

I can't wait to get to know you all and hop in on some challenges. It'll be great to be surrounded by people who are all working toward the same goals! emoticon

CATLADYINAPRIL; No you don't have to share any thing you don't want to. This is your journey and your BMI is for your personal info . I hope it will help you set a healthy goal.

I know I was shocked to see where I stood! For the first week just ease in to it while being mindful of what you eat, your choices, your portion size. Keep in mind you are not on a DIET but you choose to EAT HEALTHY. I encourage you to check your nutritional report after tracking your food for the day.

I'm here to help any of my Team members with any questions they may have. emoticon

emoticon to you CATLADYINAPRIL ! Happy you chose out Team. so we can do this together

We're mostly the same age but have more pounds than you to lose

First, I'd like you to look up your BMI - Body Mass Index. It will tel you where you are and where you need to be for a healthy weight.

Weigh-in tomorrow morning before eating or drinking anything and register your weight as your starting point. emoticon

On this site I do not use the word DIET ever but we choose to EAT HEALTHY.
We have weekly and monthly challenges, learn to set goals, have different post on nutrition, etc.

This week we will be mindful of what we eat. That is every choice we make.
Example: Are we eating ice cream bar or yogurt? - original or low fat?
Are we tasting while cooking? Every bit amounts to calories.
Are we tracking our food daily? Are we looking at the nutritional report daily?
Also this week: we will be mindful of our portion size. Do we overeat? What does our plate look like? overflowing? Is it a large plate? I purchase each a medium size plate as I found that the large one with smaller portion made it look like my plate was half empty - I know! It's psychological

It may seem a bit much but you'll see it's easily done emoticon

Hello, today is day one. I have been putting off weight loss for sometime now. I will be 71 years old and having medical issues the most important is high blood pressure. On 3 different medications. Over weight by 50 pounds. Thought I could do this alone, but finding I cannot this is hard work when you love to eat all the wrong foods. Also must start excising. Been really lazy with that. This is a new day and need some encouragement. I welcome any suggestions. Thanks

Hello, 1st day here and am hoping it will be a great helped. Weighed myself this morning and I am the heaviest I have ever been. Have been on SP for many years and consider myself a floater, as I haven't reach my goals. I am 76 years old, and at this age I need to really start watching my health. At 219 pounds I am in the obese rating and really need to make some changes. I try to stay active, but I have notice that this last year I have been sitting doing nothing more and more. I get short of breath really easily, even though I do have asthma, that is not the reason for shortness of breath, it is total due to the weight. I also suffer from debilitating migraines, at times, but do have meds, to stop them. I know I have to make some drastic changes and am willing to listen to anyone that has a suggestion .

I struggle like I am sure many people do but I also give up real easy if I don't see results but this time I am going to try and push my way till the end I started at 302 and am down to 258 since February which is ok the problem is though to me I do not see a difference and it keeps that nagging thought in my head well you are not losing weight so give up it's those triple fat rolls that get me everytime I look at my self in a picture or the mirror. I have to say I have come close to this but have not yet given up. I plan on keep going until I hit a nice weight, I have learned to only give myself the 10 or 20 pound limit at a time so I do not lose hope I will keep pushing forward and let you all know in time how it goes. emoticon

WNCGIRL: emoticon to our team. Happy to have you on board.

Can I suggest you take your BMI? It will give you the category your in ad where you should be as far as a healthy weight.

On this team I don't like to use the word Diet - it sounds restrictive and forbidding. I use the word Eating Healthy. which has a more positive note to it.

There are different challenges weekly: mindful eating - what we eat and how much we eat- portion size, emoticon then there's exercise emoticon and now drinking water. emoticon You can look each thread in the challenge and goal setting forum.

Speaking of goal setting; the big picture where you want to be, then broken in monthly and weekly. Choose a day you weigh in weekly and monitor your progress to meet your monthly goal. We have a November challenge just for that purpose and we'll have one monthly. Some weigh-in daily.

We have a LET"S TALK thread too in the discussion forum emoticon

emoticon I hope you'll find this Team helpful to get you where you need to be to stay healthy and prevent health issues.

DOT364 : I was reading your post below and I'm excited for you emoticon

Very smart of you to have a meal plan before eating out emoticon

I love the challenges a they keep us on our toes -lol. The first weekly was to be mindful of what we eat - choices we make; 0 fat yogurt or regular, fries or mashed potatoes or salad, do we eat our veggies, our fruit - a whole banana = 2 fruits etc

The second challenge was about being mindful the portion size of my meal. Well. I went to the dollar store and got me a smaller dinner plate than my set of dishes has. That helped me cut my portion without having the feeling of eating just half a plate when I cut the portions. I even bought a food scale. I now take time to measure and weigh.

I thank you for sharing. Together emoticon

Thank you for the warm welcome back. So I was excited to have a good day yesterday. I feared today was going to be a flop because we are meeting my parents, sister and brother-in-law to go out for a family celebration tonight. But....I think I have a meal plan mapped out that will help me stick to my goal.

I look forward to checking out the weekly and monthly challenges. The exercise thread is going to be my next resource to overcome my lack of motivation, especially now that winter has hit here in Minnesota. I know there are plenty of ways to get exercise in.....so my goal is NO EXCUSES this winter! :) I know my BMI is scary and I want to make some positive progress before my next dr appt in 3 months!

I will also join the Saturday weigh in. Thanks again.

Hi Dorothy emoticon Real happy to have you !!!

There's a few addition to our group: weekly(our third) and monthly(our first)challenges, exercise and nutrition threads," Let's chat" so we can share our journey, setting goals thread, etc. I'll never mention the word Diet because it sounds restrictive; I will use EAT HEALTHY which is positive and offers many choices. We also have a Saturday weigh-in.

I believe baby steps = BIG results.

To help you determine where you are now and where you should be I encourage you to look-up your BMI.

Together emoticon .If you have questions ask and you will have an answer....

My name is Dorothy and I joined this group a while ago, but since it has been so long, I feel like I am "new" to it again. I feel bad for not staying in touch, because I know how much giving and getting encouragement from each other is valuable and tracking my food in SP works! So I am picking myself up and turning the page. My glucose level rose a little and am giving myself 100 days to get my act together again. (Trying to sound tough to myself, so I get myself back on track again!) So I look forward to sharing and learning tips and joining everyone else on the journey. I know I have to use this format to also hold myself accountable so I don't give up so easily this time. Thanks for letting me jump back into this group.

We also have different challenges weekly and one ongoing every Saturday - we weigh-in to see how well all participating members are doing! There is goal setting, exercise, and many more threads in different forums.

Hi, I've been MIA for way too long. It's time to take myself in hand. I started tracking my food intake about 2 weeks ago and lost 2 pounds so that encouraged me to keep going. I'm not getting younger either so now is the time to do this. emoticon

Hi, I am new to this team. I started Sparks in 2011 but have been active only on & off. Since June 2019 I have really been active trying to loose 1 to 1 1/2 weekly. I had been doing great but have slowed down the past month. I weigh-in daily as a general rule but will be out of town a few days this week. Hope this group will be the encouragement I need when I hit a rough patch and that I can encourage others when I am doing well.

Hello Mouse. I haven't been here for awhile and it looks like there are not too many people posting lately. I will be starting a personal challenge this week. I weigh in on Fridays. If you are interested in joining me that would be great. I am trying to lose one pound a week.

Hope to see you posting often.

Hi, I have been yoyo ing a lot but determined to just change my thoughts of food. Last year beginning Oct, I had a real scare at 300 lbs and lost 60 lbs over the next 6 months. I was really sick; wasn't a choice. Had surgery and now I am better but really struggling since I no longer feel so sick. My Dr told me how great I was doing on March 13 and my NAFLD 2 reversed to NAFLD 1. Weight was down to 237 and I was so proud. I lost it and have now gained back almost 40 of those lbs. I have really been trying and know the importance. Panicking at being back around 270. Trying to just change my way of life over the race. Also feel better about monthly weigh in. I am self destructive at a weekly weigh in when the scale slows.

Hello everyone. I have been with Sparkpeople for a while, and saw yo-yo progress. My heaviest weigh in was 331lbs, and I have been trying to get rid of it since.

I am a diabetic and have lymphedema, which cause me to retain water in my legs constantly. Since I have been able to incorporate compression stockings into my daily wardrobe, this has gotten easier.

I have chosen Wednesday as a weigh-in day and plan to weigh-in once per week.

Good Morning, Been a Sparker for about 10 years and had the usual ups and downs (more ups than downs it seems). I didn't even know this team was here. I work from home and don't get out much so I really don't have anyone to be accountable to. I have lost 40-ish pounds in the last year but seem to have hit a plateau that doesn't want to budge. I'm trying different things and hopefully that will push through.

Everyone have a great Monday! Thanks for being here.

Hi everyone!
First time user of Sparkpeople. I look forward to getting to know people here and help with motivation. I've struggled with eating disorders for most of my life, everything from anorexia to compulsive eating, so my weight has been a huge yo yo and my health has suffered. I used to HATE exercise and thanks to Richard Simmons, I love it! I try to workout at least 20 mins a day. Otherwise, i'm a stay at home mom to a beautiful little girl and have been happily married for seven years.

Hi there!

I began with SP about 11 years ago and had great success. Pretty much had to stop once the kiddos came along, but I've been off and on after the pregnancies. So why am I back and determined to get back to my pre-pregnancy shape/weight? I got blood work done recently and my triglycerides and cholesterol are way up and I'm pre-diabetic. I was especially shocked since my diet has not been particularly unhealthy! But I've been under a tremendous amount of stress for the last 1.5 years, and I know that stress=higher cortisol levels=insulin spikes=higher triglycerides. That changes as of this past month. I'm committed to getting my regular (and serious) exercise in at least 5x per week, in eating enough (because I tended to skip meals, thus slowing down my metabolism), getting enough sleep (at least 7 hours per night), drinking enough water, getting balanced nutrition (30% protein; 30% fat; 30% carbs for mesomorphs), and taking my vitamins daily. Thus far I'm down 10lbs from when I started a couple of months ago and I'm determined to lose15 more. I do lose at a glacially slow pace, so I know that I'll be quite grateful to this team for the motivation and positivity. emoticon

Hi all! My name is Jessica. I joined SparkPeople about a month ago. I remembered hearing about it a long time ago and figured I would give it a go. I have been at my heaviest these last 2 years. My heaviest was in March 2019 I was 10lbs short of 300lbs. I had just been released from the hospital due to having blood clots and complications from the medication. My hematologist told me that my weight and 2 other things were what caused my first blood clot in my lung. That night I decided I was changing and the next morning I signed up here. My goal is to lose at least 100 lbs to become healthier and less likely to get another blood clot. I am currently at 279lbs so I am losing and getting there, just in a healthy manner.

Team Neon Ninjas!

I didn't get here in a day, but damn I had fun! I know it won't be easy to get out but I plan on having fun.

Hello! I am a 38 year old mom of four(!) boys. Married for 17 years. Not new to SP, but new to this board. I used SP to lose 80 pounds a few years ago, but unfortunately I let myself slip back into bad habits, and gained some of it back. We have had three crazy, emotional years with losses in the family, and Im an emotional eater. Throw a pregnancy in the middle (which I knew was our last, so I was more liberal with food) and, here I am. I wanted more accountability, and this group looked promising. I know this program works, I have a couple new pieces of equipment to help me along with what I have done before, and Im ready!

Instead of giving myself reasons why I can't, I give myself reasons why I can. Unknown Author

Hi! I'm not new to SP, but I'm new to this group. I just dropped my membership to a large weight loss organization (new changed to a wellness organization) and have been using the coaches on SP Premium as my weigh in (although that kind of slipped with the holidays and all!), but I wanted to also have a team weigh in, so here I am! For a Christmas present to myself, I bought a Weight Gurus scale, which I will use for my weigh in and, it is my hope, it will help me keep going with weight loss. My main reason for weight loss (besides general health and well being) is to improve my sleep apnea condition. I am hoping that with weight loss, I will not have to use a CPAP at night. Thanks and happy Sparking everyone--and Happy New Year!

Goals for 1/16/2019 through 2/14/2019:
- Track food at least six days per week
- Get at least 7000 daily average steps, increasing weekly.

Hello Team. I'm 71 and I have 2 doctors who keep reminding me that I need to lose weight. I was never heavy growing up and weighed 110 when I graduated from high school. But after having a transcription job for over 30 years and sitting all day, my weight started to rise to about 1 pound a year. My age and my weight followed each other--my weight adding 100 lb . to my age. But eventually my weight surpassed my age and my highest weight was about 181. I'm 5'4" and weigh 171.5 right now.

I weigh myself every Sunday but I'm hoping that knowing I have to weigh-in here will help motivate me to get my weight heading downward. I had lost about 3 lb. last month but I feel like now it's getting darker earlier and my favorite exercises are riding my horse and walking--which I won't do in the dark--my weight may start to head upwards again.

Wish me luck.

Hi, I'm Brit, and I'm new to the group but not new to SP. Like several others in this group, I have gotten down to my ideal weight, and then gained some of it back. Some of my challenges are working full time and also homeschooling my teenage daughter. I seem to have very little time for myself, and it makes it hard to exercise and eat healthy.

I plan to do my weigh ins on Friday, but tomorrow is busy, so next week Friday will be my next weigh in.

I'm almost 62 years old. In the past couple of years I've gained about 25 pounds and I really need a place to log a public weigh in. I'm hoping that this group is fairly active. My weigh in day will be Fridays.

Hi all,
I'm glad to be here - I need some accountability and support! SparkPeople helped me lose 20+ lbs about 10 years ago but my weight has crept back up, so I'm here to do it again.
Thank you all for being a part of this community!

Hello. I just happened to find this team. I am hoping that coming here every Friday will keep me accountable. I need to lose 20 pounds. Losing 1 pounds a week is a realistic goal for me.

I have been on Spark People for many years. I have lost 20 pounds with the help of SparkPeople teams but I keep fighting the last 20 pound battle over and over. I currently have good health and do not take any medications but I need to lose the last 20 pounds.

As I get older it is becoming more of a health risk to carry around excess weight, especially around the mid section. So hopefully I will find the motivation here by reporting my progress every week.

Hi All,

I just randomly came across this group and I am thinking I will give it a try! I am STRUGGLING! I have about 25 pounds to lose from my current weight. Back Story:

In 2008 I started my current job and went from being VERY active almost all day, every day to sitting most of my days. Within the first few months, I gained 10 pounds going from 117-127lbs. I was small at the time, so though I didn't enjoy gaining the weight, it still wasn't that big of a deal. 125 was kind of average for me during high school, so I figured the 117 was just a small point in my life.

I got married in January 2009. Between 2008 and 2010 sometime, I gained another 2 pounds putting me at 129lbs...not too bad, but the tiny bits of weight were creeping on and this was definitely the biggest I had ever been. I am 5'3", so relatively short and in addition to that my mom's side of the family is VERY petite. They are all shorter than I am with VERY small frames and fragile bones who develop osteoporosis easily. Being near 130 is heavy for that side of our family - and very unhealthy for our bodies.

In July 2011 I had my first daughter. I did NOT lose weight with breastfeeding, but I did eventually get back down to my pre-pregnancy weight after over a year of effort so I was back down to the 129 range.

In June 2013 I had my son. Same situation. I still got back down to pre-pregnancy weight, but it took a long time!

In December 2016 I had my second daughter and that is where more struggle started. This pregnancy was super hard. I was nauseated most of the days. I could not exercise due to nausea and the foods that I tolerated best were rich "home cooked" style of foods - high in fat, things like meatloaf, mashed potatoes, anything fatty (which is odd for pregnancy)! Due to this 9 months of not being able to eat well or be physically active my body definitely changed! I am currently still up 11 pounds, sitting today around 140lbs, since she was born almost 21 months ago! By this time with the other two, I was definitely back down to pre-pregnancy weight.

I feel my struggles are a combination of things. I work full time. We now have 3 kiddos ages 7, 5 and 1.5 years. The older two are active in many activities in addition to school. I participate in a lot of different activities to support my kiddo's such as the school board, etc. I offer up a lot of my time, when I am able. I know these are technically excuses and I CAN make the time for myself, but It is tough. My husband works a different schedule, so there is a lot of time that I am home with the kids. I cannot just go running and even going downstairs to exercise in our small home gym is hard with my 1.5 year old - she wants to get on the treadmill with me or she will get in the way of the weights...or she will be trying to go up the stairs.

I am also not making the best choices nutritionally. I KNOW how to eat well. I just love sweets! We eat pretty healthy in our home, but my portions are just too big or I splurge on sweets and desserts in the evening. I know where my downfalls are. I could list them out with great detail. I am still just having a difficult time adjusting things.

So, here I am, with 25ish pounds that I would ideally like to lose. I am back and forth on SP and hoping that maybe checking in with a group weigh in might help with motivation. I KNOW I need to lose this weight. I feel like frame-size, I take after my mom's side of the family and we are "supposed to be" petite. My dad's side of the family are all morbidly obese. My dad passed away in 2016 from Type 2 Diabetes, heart disease, alzheimers/dementia, etc, etc. He was 65. He had been admitted to a nursing home at age 57 where he spent the rest of his life. I know that I am HIGH risk for these chronic illnesses and I want to prevent them. I do not want to do to my kids, what my dad did to me. I want to be there to watch my kids get older and to watch my grandkids grow up. I want to live a longer, but HEALTHY life. I have PCOS, which puts me at higher risk of developing Type 2 DM...in addition to the family history and having 3 babies well over 9 pounds each and my currently sedentary lifestyle. I know I need to change this. I know to many 25 pounds does not seem like a lot and to be 140 would be many people's dream. I get it. The fact is, we are all different and me at 140 is on the verge of being "overweight" and even though I am in the healthy BMI range, I am going to develop chronic illnesses if I stay this weight. I can feel that it is not good for my body. My ideal weight would be 115-120. I know this is probably not fully realistic for my age (almost 35), but it's a long-term goal as the 117 was where I felt the most healthy and truly the best. For me, it's not about looks or necessarily a number, but where I feel healthy and where I can prevent these chronic illnesses as long as possible.

All of that said, here I am. I do the best with someone to check in with and be accountable to, but so far, I have not been able to find anyone!! If anyone feels like we'd mesh, send me a message on here and we can connect via SP, Facebook, text, etc. I would love to have a check-in buddy!!

Hi group I've been on my weight loss journey for many years and I've managed to lose around 50lb but I need to lose another 50lb. The last couple of years I've kept losing a stone putting it back on due to a lot of stress in my life but it's now time for me again to break this cycle.

I am person of few words but I think it will help me if I could express my feelings more. I think I found in Sparkpeople a safe place to do it. One day at a time.

After almost 9 years on Spark People, I have really found my Spark and I am doing great. Now after over 10 years, I have lost 49 pounds and I have started joining Forums & Challenges. I wish I had done all this sooner, but to every time there is a season and Winter/Spring 2017/2018 is mine.

Hello everyone,

Ah, so this is where I write to introduce myself. Sorry, will get a hang of it soon :-) Hi, I am Karolina, 38 years old. Looking to lose 88 pounds. Well, already managed to lose 13 since Jan 1st so getting there! I love the idea of this group! Where do you all find those trackers? Do I need to upgrade?

The way I am doing it:

3 healthy meals a day - no snacking.
More water
Less/almost no sugar
Own made bullet journal, love it! Even tracking sleep hours and daylight minutes etc.

Just got to get going on the exercise bit!
Keep going team!

Hi there! I'm Ypsfar and I'm back to SP because I have 45lbs to lose. in the last 6 months of 2017 I totally lost control over my weight and, starting 2018, I want a new me.
I'm really happy to have stumbled on this group, cause I was looking for a way to be accountable with tracking my weight.

Have a great day!

Hi! My name is P.R. and I am finding myself in the situation of having 100 lbs. to lose for the third time in my life!!! It would be funny if it weren't in turn, so sad and indicative of my lack of self control. I lost 100 lbs. with a stomach bypass surgery over 30 yrs ago. gained it all back. Then 5 years ago I lost 100 lbs. using SparkPeople and attending a group called TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) where I was the leader for 4 years. I got down to my goal weight and looked FABULOUS!!!. I kept it off for 2 years. There are many factors that contribute to my weight loss issue besides lack of self control however. I have had major changes in my life, as everyone does. I have had 2 ankle surgeries, 2 siblings and 2 parents pass away, and I moved to a different state all in the last 2 years. So I am back up in my highest weight zone again. I am confident that I will be able to lose the weight and keep it off for good this time with the help of you kind people and the support I know SP has to offer. Here's to a New Year and New Yous to us all!!!

Life Loves Me! I love me! I am REVVING it up to lose the weight I want to. BAM!
