Aloha Everybody -

My name is DJ (well nickname that is) and this is the 2nd - 3rd time I've come back to sparkpeople for support. Wanting to give support as much as receive! I came across this group today and liked what is going on here and hope to get to know all of you better.

Today, admittedly, is a bit of a 'down' day for me. Well, afternoon - not the whole day. I've been doing really well since about April 1 with my intentions and goals toward getting and BEING healthier ... but today I caved into old habits. I'm just a 'bit' down - not totally off the wall - ha! And I did start looking for more groups for support this afternoon instead of continuing to go downhill eating more 'stuff' - ha!

So, see ... ya'll have already helped me by being here - willing to 'listen'! :)

Looking forward to getting to know ya'll better.

Hi. I have been on SP for a while. I have lost 158 pounds. My highest weight was 357. I am a Christian and my world revolved around my Savior first. Then my goal is to feel better and to get out of this wheelchair. I am working on that. I am looking forward to being with y'all. Excuse the drawl, but, I am a southern gal, living in middle Tennessee. Born in Nashville and lived there until 1994 and now reside in a small town called White House, TN. I am leader of five teams and am looking for a place just to be a member. Have a wonderful Monday. Remember you won't see this particular day for four more years. Lol. Please visit my Sparkpage if you want to get the story of my journey. Hugs from Tennessee, Judy

Welcome Molly! Glad to have you on the team. You are a person after my own heart. I love my furbaby Toby and I support my local shelter with fundraising.

The downsizing you are doing sounds like a lot of work!!!

Hi all, Molly from Portland Oregon, retired, single, and have fur babies. Joined healthier tomorrow a few weeks back and have been reading the posts. I decided that I should be a little more active then lurking. I am a Veterinarian technician. Spent 35 yrs with the county's large animal shelter and of course have a variety of rescue animals. I still work 2 days at a private clinic to stay in the flow. I am trying to down size so have been busy cleaning up the family home- built in 1945 and as that many years of "stuff". I am not planning on leaving however I think frying pans from 1980 do not need to be around. I am keeping the cast iron ware and anything from my grandmother!! Have a great week !

I have to agree with Carolyn. I am very happy with this team. I have never heard of Grits, but then I am not from the South. However, having said that, I was raised in a home that all my friends came to as they became family. Our house was always open and welcoming and now that I am older, I sure appreciate that type of hospitality.

You will laugh, but my sister and I have always said that we would grow old together sitting in our rocking chairs on the front porch and be the Crazy Dog Ladies! All are welcome to join us.

Even though I've not been a member of this team for a whole week yet, it has very quickly become my favorite team. The combination of a warm welcome, good chatting, and the support and encouragement give this team a tremendous sense of hospitality. And as a GRITS (Girl Raised In The South), hospitality is very important to me!! I'd like to bring out a tray of frosty glasses of ice water (with some cherries and orange slices swimming in it) and something healthy to nibble on!!! All we lack is a big front porch! LOL!!

Good Afternoon, my name is Patty and I am in Colorado. I am 52 years young and have been married 23 years. We have no children except for my fur-baby, Toby. I struck up a wonderful friendship with Carolyn (Cantata) and she told me of this Spark Team so here I am. It is nice to see so many conversations going on.

Hello. My mother-in-law likes her salt too, but has had to cut back. I cut down on my salt intake awhile ago and have found some really good seasonings. We have a store here called Penzy's and they have so many unique spices. They have a website you could go to, but my sister and I found Arizona Dreaming and Mural. Each are a unique blend of spices that you can add to just about anything. I do not really even notice that I am not eating as much salt.

Goodness, Vicki!! I didn't feel you were at all late in welcoming me!! I feel as though I've received a very warm welcome and I appreciate that!! A couple of teams I've joined recently were dead as the proverbial doornail with no chat going on at all, much less any welcome to speak of.

Thanks again and I look forward to building more healthy tomorrows with this team!!

Hi there! emoticon

I'm Carolyn, age 57, married 37 heavenly years to the best man in the world, no kids, 2 cats, struggling with some major health issues, but all set to get a bit of improvement in the picture!! I was a Spark People member in 2007-2008 and lost about 45 lbs. then. Got sidelined by multiple hospitalizations, but have now returned and was thrilled to find I had gained back only 2 lbs. in these last 7 years. That was a delightful and unexpected discovery!!!

Anyway, with major arthritis issues now coming to the forefront, I know I must do something and do it now!!! And I know I can do it!!!!

Hi all. I'm Debra from good ol Brooklyn, NY. Looking forward to getting to know you all! Bevie, my knees and yours sound like twins. And yes, I know that you are right about the knee pain/weight connection that is why I am so frustrated with myself for not losing the weight. It has been years since I broke the 20 pound mark but I know and have experienced the difference of even a 10-15 pounds of weight loss. Pain doesn't go away, probably will never for me based on he extent of my OA, but it does help and at time quite substantially. So, I hope this time is THE time!!!! And sodium, my lifelong friend has turned on me too, lol! Thanks for inviting me Vicki!

What are the rules/requirements for this challenge?

Hi - I am new to the team, my name is Bev and I hail from Sacramento CA. I have three grown children and 4 grandchildren. Two sons (one who lives with me) and one daughter from CO. My dtr family and grandchildren and I have booked a cruise to Hawaii for 15 days. I got a balcony room for myself and looking for some nice quiet time. I live in a Senior Mobile Home Park (best decision I have ever made) and very active with the activities here in the park. My main objective is to lose weight, especially for my cruise, but mainly for my bad knees. I have OA in both my knees that I know my weight is a major factor. I do great with my dieting until life and some luncheon or dinner gets in the way. I am a former WW for 12 years so I know what I am doing wrong, I do have to monitor my sodium, and when I do I do lose the weight, but it is very difficult. Bev

Hey all!

My name is Fey, and I am back on SP to get fit and healthy.
Back when I was 18, I had gotten to 140 (my healthy goal weight), but the stress of university has lead me to gain it all back.
The need for change sparked for me when I was in an H & M dressing room the other week, and I got a real good look at my body in the 360 degree mirror.
I asked myself "How did I let myself get to this point?"
It's been a week so far, and I've been eating clean and walking everywhere.
Hopeful for change.

Love the community support here :)

emoticon Hi everyone. My name is Dottie. I joined SP in April 2014 and had lost 50 pounds. I have since gained about 10 pounds back. I really want to lose some more but have been struggling just to keep what I have lost off.
I will be 68 in July. My husband is now retired and we are enjoying traveling a little. I eat a lot healthier since living my new lifestyle and feel much better. But I still have a long way to go.
Gardening, scrap booking, genealogy and loving my grand babies is how I like to spend my time.
It was very good to have to get rid of some of my big clothes last year. And I have enjoyed shopping for new ones. I hate the thought that I may not be able to get into some of the new clothes and may have to go back to those larger sizes again.
Looking for someone who is willing to help me stay accountable. I will do the same for you.
Your spark friend, Dottie

Hello all!
My name is Jacqui. I am working on being the best that I can be. I became an Avon Representative to make it affordable to continue my skincare regimen and i do receive many compliments on how young Ii look for being 65.
Now it is time to work on my health. With age comes health issues and being obese doesn't help. Therefore, my friends, I am very much looking forward to learning from, receiving encouragement from, and hopefully contributing to, all of you.

Hi everyone!
My name is Kara and I recently gave up cigarettes. The last time I did that, I gained 30 pounds in 11 months. This time, I am hoping to keep the weight gain down while still not smoking.

I am married to a wonderful man who supports me in everything I do, I have 6 children (3 of them "bonus" children that I gained when I married my husband), and 2 grandchildren. Although I am an older adult, I have also recently returned to college to finally get my Bachelor's Degree. And I have a full time job.

I use my lunch break at work to walk every day, and have been trying to start an exercise routine at home. I could use some serious motivation, and accountability to keep this up!!

I look forward to learning from everyone in this group!

Hi everyone! I'm Maggie, I'm 32 and from Southern Indiana. I had great success with SparkPeople about three years ago and managed to lose 124 pounds. I stopped using SP, stop tracking my calories and exercising and things went way downhill. I'm at my biggest right now, 430 pounds.

So I'm back, ready to get this weight off!!! Although I'm sad I have to start all over, the relapse and gaining all of that weight back plus more taught me one thing--- I'll never be one of those girls that can eat whatever they want and maintain their weight. So now I have to move forward. I just ordered my Spark Activity Tracker and I'm ready to go.

Other things about me? I work full time as an advertising manager at a newspaper, I'm an awesome aunt to two sweet boys and a little girl due any day. Those boys are the light of my life! My husband and I have been married for a little over 11 years and we are unable to have children. We do have two dogs and two cats that are spoiled absolutely rotten.

So please, add me as a friend here and lets chat, I need friends and motivation!!!

Hi everyone! I'm Kara, 34 and I live in east Tennessee. I'm a librarian and I run a small rural library. I have been overweight since I was a child, and have been on medicine for high blood pressure for a few years now. I have tried to lose weight so many times, and would do well for a while before I let something get in the way and derail me. I went to the doctor a couple of weeks ago and the number on the scale shocked me. I am at the highest weight I've ever been. I have problems with my knees, sciatica, and of course the high BP. If I don't start losing the weight now, I am going to be unable to move before I hit 40. I decided it's time for me to take control of my life back and stop letting the food, the stress, the "whatever" it is determine how I'm going to live.

My fiance and I are on a journey to get healthy together, so that when we get married, we will start that part of our lives together as healthy as possible.

I look forward to "meeting" you all! emoticon

emoticon I am Angela from Pennsylvania. A single mom of two grown children Devan and Andrew. I am also a Nana to a beautiful 7 month old granddaughter Brylin Amelia.

Some of my favorite past times are crocheting, crocheting and more crocheting...LOL. I do like to stamp and make my own cards, read and spoil my little Brylin.

My weight loss has been an ongoing thing in my life since I can remember. I am on a goal to just get healthy not necessarily skinny, just under 180 would be wonderful.

I am lucky to have a great and very supportive man in my life named David.

Thank you Vicki for the invite, that was very thoughtful and very kind of you to think of me.

Howdy,

Thanks for the invite, Vicki. My name is Cindy (but if you prefer some call me Cookie. I'm fine with either name), I live in Texas with my husband (Jim) of 24 years and a very rotten dog named Rose. I'm 57 and retired last year. With my back injury it (the desk job) was making my injury worse. Plus the stress of the job and office politics was depressing. My wake up call was when I ended up in the emergency room because my BP wouldn't come down. They couldn't find anything wrong other than it was Monday and said I was stressed about going to work. As soon as I was able, I retired. We are broke a lot but I was afraid I would have a heart attack or stroke if I stayed any longer. I walk a lot to keep my back from hurting so much...some days the walks are slower than other days.
We have limited Internet time so I'm using my phone most of the time. When my hands and neck start bothering me, I have to put my phone down for a while.

Thanks again emoticon

Hi Vicki, Thanks for the invite for this new team. I'm Virginia, and have been on sp since 2008. I love meeting new friends here. I guess, I might be the oldest one here since I turned 75 last Jan.but I may be wrong, my age group is kind of thin or thinning, but not just in size "smile". I'm trying to keep myself fit and healthy, by eating good Veg. & Fruits and trying to get my exercise done daily. I'm not too verbal, on here, will try to do better. We have a small exercising room with lots of equipment, and we are blessed with a swimming pool, that's great for keeping in shape. The weather here in Sacramento is very nice and will be 86 today, so can't wait to jump in but the water is only 72 today. Brrrrr. Maybe soon. I hope you all have a great weekend.. Virginia

I told my girls Goodnight one night, and all but one was gone to heaven, by the next morning !
We never stop missing them, even though it has been 43 years this year.

emoticon I'm Donna and I live in the Metro Detroit area. I've been a member of SP since 2008. I'm married with 4 grown sons. I have one son who is married and I have 3 grandsons. emoticon

I lost a lot of weight back in 2001. I got to a goal of 140 and went lower. I was able to maintain that until I turned 50. My weight was slowly going back up. Last year I took a new position in our company and it's a desk job. I knew I wanted to get moving again but between knee issuer's it was hard. I had a torn meniscus that I had surgery on about 2 years ago and now I have another on my right knee. I made up my mind that I was not going let that hold me back.

I also purchased the FITBIT and I love it. I am now down 54lbs and I'm past my goal of 140. I'm going for 130. I love all my friends here on SP and my new ones from FITBIT.

Another thing I have done is change my attitude. I now consider this a life style change NOT a DIET. This is for my health. I found out 2 weeks ago when I went for a wellness check for work that my cholesteroll and that I'm diabetic. The doc and I both were shocked with all the exercise and weight loss I have done. THOSE DANG GENES!!! So now it's even more important for me to stay healthy.

By attempting something really difficult and outside of your comfort zone, you will discover how strong you really are.

Donna

emoticon I am Marty. I am 50 years young! I have IBS and that is why I joined SP. My huge issue is belly bloat. Someone from SP gave me an article to read about belly bloat. As I was digesting it, I blogged about it. As a result, I am trying to cut process foods out of my diet and eat whole foods. I am starting with 1-2 meals a day. I am a single mom from WI. My son graduates from HS in a month!

emoticon Just got wind of this Team & I'm happy to come aboard. My name is Tony. I reside in Halifax NS Canada.

Up to 2 days ago I was searching for a family doctor. A search that took me 6 months & 20 rejections in total before our Capitol Health found me a doctor. I won't get into the details but if you haven't read any one of my blogs on this matter please do if time is on your side.

Now with that out of the way I can move forward to living the life I so desire. I weigh well over 600 lbs & have a long journey ahead of me. An exciting new fresh beginning!!

I'm in the right place today!!!

Hi Vicki, I'm Pat I'm 58 also this is my second weight loss journey first time finding spark and love all the support I'm getting here. I gained all this weight back a few years ago when I broke my ankle and had surgery, a rod and screws in the ankle now, couldn't walk for 3 months. In the meantime got laid off from work and the depression set in. I am also looking at back surgery for stenosis which makes a lot of exercise out of the question from the pain. High blood pressure and arthritis in my hands hips knees and now one ankle. I'm a mess but I know losing the weight will help with all my issues! I lost 5 lbs in November/December without trying think it was from being in a lot of pain at the time and it got me motivated. So far I've lost 27 lbs, 22 with sparkpeople you guys rock I love all the support.

I'm Lori - 58 years old. I'm down about 40 pounds since starting (again!) in October. I still have about 70 more pounds to reach my weight goal. As everyone knows, it's a long road and easy to loose focus and motivation. I look forward to finding ways to make these new habits permanent ones. Finding new friends to challenge and motivate is always a good thing!

Amanda, 50. Ideal Protein protocol using Alternative food sources (generally a combination of protein powders and real foods to reach the same macros that IP uses for stable weight loss in a ketogenic state).

I am 93lbs down from my starting weight and have 23lbs left to hit my goal weight of 140lbs.

Went from being a couch potato to walking (very slowly), then added in some conditioning work in the gym (lifting 5lb and 10lb dumbbells), then 3 mile walks, then 3 mile runs. It isn't easy to get started but it definitely gets easier and, once it's easier it's also more enjoyable - especially with summer coming. :)

I have arthritis of the neck and spine, am going through menopause and have a bum knee from a nasty fall 2 years ago. Learning to go at my OWN pace and not allowing others to pressure me.

Hi Vicki, my name is Kathy and I am 61 years young and I to have a good share of weight to lose. I have RA in many areas of my body so I know how hard it is to exercise. My mantra is "Move More Eat Less". I love chair exercises, walking out doors, of which I am by myself most of the time, and yoga for RA. It is a slow process but we must not give up. I have small goals set in place so I know they are reachable. I also have long term goals set up.
I felt with never knowing how your body is from day to day, I could have small goals to keep me motivated. We can do this!! We help each other and who knows what we can do, right?
I will help in any way I can.

I'm Vicki, and a lot of you know me from other teams. I'm 58 yeas old and I have a good bit of weight to lose. My hubby Bob and I have been working since Sept. 13-2014 to lose 60 lbs. each by Sept. 13-2015. So far he's down 30 lbs. and I'm down 21 lbs. Bob has been in the hospital 3 times in the last 5 years due to heart issues and getting the weight off for him is a have to, if he wants to be here another 5 years. For me, I have RA of the spine as well a mildly high blood pressure and I know losing the weight will help me in both areas. And I know it will help my energy level.
I've lived in the past for too long where it comes to my weight and it's time to look to the future and making me the best I can be health wise. So I'm hoping this team will help me get there.
